  • Their vision is aug...ah fuck it...someone surely already said that.

  • The 3D wireframe-head at 1:08 has some of the worst geometry I've ever seen!

  • could they use OLED style technology to make tiny photodiodes? if so they could make this work much better.

  • The only real true answer is where the use of the patient's own genetic make up is to be used to grow the adult stem cells, and the adult root cells, that does involve RNA/DNA reconstruction, which can be done in university medical school hospitals! Now the facts are true about what I have mentioned involving what can be done to artificially produce natural human body parts not these robotic junk parts!

  • imagine how awesome it will be one day, be able to have a implant like this and have your phone, computer everything you need right there in your eye, be able to do anything

  • Her vision is augmented

  • OMG that was fuckin priceless... check downloadmusic.im ,to download the complete album..

  • epic win

  • they should get videogame designers to help with the graphics when pulses are sent from the bionic eye

  • i love this stuff. great video!

  • simply amazing!

  • ObamaCare wants to end all of this - it is too expensive or so they say..

  • I'm not sure that's entirely the case. Advancement and progression in science is critical to any economic growth and even more important for healing a recession. Universities quite often have more connections to high-end businesses than social health programs, and therefore the development of such systems may not be affected as badly as you think. Fingers crossed.

  • Think so? Check out Ram Emanuel's brother and John Holdern. Anyone who is "defective" - that is not worth their weight tot he socialist society is dead meat... There will be no reason to invest in technology for the blind, the amputee, the deaf, then..

  • @HumbleLife You have to understand that Obama doesn't want advancements in this economy. He wants it to implode. Which is exactly what he'd doing.

  • @8145551212 Consider the cuts in education and research during the Bush years, and the "wreckless spending" liberal economics are blamed for.

I would say quite the contrary.

  • Basically what I got from this, is that we just need to work on fitting more electrodes on the implant. get in like 500,00 and the vision will be near HD.

  • We need to spend more time developing stuff like this instead of weapons.

  • @ultrajd The american government is too stupid spending money we don't have on the Iraq War.

    P.S. I'm an American

  • Amazing I hope that this works and cures blindness.

  • They should make one based on thermography. It wouldn't allow for colour vision but it would give a pretty good idea of shape regardless of light levels

  • I love transhumanism :) Getting old truely is a sickness that can be healed with technology in the future. It is alredy done in small scale. Look the average lenght of life 200 years earlier and compare it to modern days and you can see that technology is small by small making us super! :D

  • you can say everything you want about transhumanism but you ll end up dieing and you d better not been a bitch during your life at this moment

dont put your hopes in technology and be a man

  • I guess soon we will have nighteyes and be able to zoom in and out to see far objects. They should make nightvision for contact lens

  • They'll have to connect it to your brain, not your contact lens.

  • As far as my understanding, this can only work with people got blind trough life, a person borne blind wont be able to see, or understand the world is in due to the brain has no knowledge of anything around it and as a result this people will still need assistance device to walk. but let's keep working on the field!!!!

  • Unfortunately it's useless for people with optic nerve injury or brain injury in the area responsioble to process view.

  • How are electrical signals converted into neurological signals?

I know synapse occurs by electrical charge but still mind-blowing work here.

  • the neurological system is based on electricity. take a look at "Action potential". synapses are programmed to either pass on the signal or block it (excitatory synapse / inhibitory synapse).

  • its a start...imagine what more can a blind person see in 20 years!

  • man nothings impossible today, the technology is coming just need to be tested. sooner or later we will face terminator :D

  • jesus, hopefully not.

    Though scientist give us demonstrations

and "logical" proof that nothing human made

could ever take on a mind of It's own, not even

talking about turning against us. impossibility.

    or is it ? :)

  • i wonder if the doctors would instead of making this camera take images of light. they would make it absorb infrared or x-ray so the blind person could see ppl through walls

  • slow your horses fella!

i'm sure they'd want to get the basic setup working first...

  • it is amazing, what's more amazing (and hard to believe) is that it's real, created by humans.

i'm amazed that the iraq war overshadows these things...

  • i find it quite sad tae b honest

  • amazing, great video

  • my mum is getting a bionic eye next year..

im so excited although she will only see shapes

  • congratulations

  • Is this really possible......... lets hope for the best. i love my eyes. bionic eye, my it's too expensive, and nothing is Guaranteed.

  • why all the spam? my comment was ment sarcastic to television.

  • cheating c0w! I hope she reveals her secrets!

  • hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...........

I like my eyes, maybe not the color, but i like them...but if i do go blind i rather have a seening eye dog, until they perfect it.

  • look at all those docters for 1 bionic eye. and for the six milion dollar man and the bionic women there ware only 3 or 4 doctors in that room for 1 eye 1 ear 2 legs 1 arm.

  • and darth vader was sorted out with 2 bots and palpetine,

    go figure...

  • Add Night vision and a 10x zoom, then I´ll buy it

  • Hehe... Why do you need tele eye, while you wouldn't be able to see widly?

  • I mean zoom from 1x to 10x so i could see everything

  • thats true my friend we can't even see widly, bionic ear, arm they are ok........... but eye?????????? really strange. it's just an lie no operation is a sucess till date. hope it would be a sucess in future

  • this aint nothing new...I remember hearing about this at least 10 years ago.

  • if you can tell me the name of the research group involved i'll try to resource some video

  • Yes, there were theories that were proposed about 10 years ago. But I don't think there was an implant yet.

  • doheny eye institute at usc is the leader in the field with their corporate partner second sight

  • I remember that 10 yrs ago scientists told us that you might be able to get emails on a cell phone.... I laughed!

Welcome to the new millenium.... it is real, the technology is 08 and it is here.

    Star Trek has arrived

  • the only major advances weve seen have been in storing and transmitting information.

Think about the future that never happened. There are still no flying cars, no jet packs, no space colonies, no domed cities, and no space elevators...All ideas we had for many years. If someone from 50 years ago could see what the world is today, they would be disappointed from a technological POV.

We are still using cars, crowding our roads, polluting our atmosphere, etc. and seem to be going nowhere.

  • I talk to a lot of people who were alive 50 years ago and every single one is impressed with what we have acheived technologically. Look at medical advances like keyhole surgery, solar panels, potential commercial space flights. When you talk about flying cars, space colonies, domed cities and space elevators, if you think we could acheieve that in 50 years you are an idiot.

  • ummm we do have like half of things you just mentioned. Jetpack, flying car, and domed city. they are just not economical efficient.

  • I heartily agree, sir

  • I want to get one of these so that I can wear them at night and when people mention them I'll be all like "My vision is augmented" like JC Denton.

  • In a few years their turn the camera into an actual eye implant, where the eye is an actual camera and that implant actually goes to the brain.

  • Well,Using cameras are harder than u think...The Eyes doesn't bahave like a camera,So that makes it hard to achieve...It may be possible in the future may be around 25+ years later

  • Try 2009....I work in the field

  • its possible as long the brain reconise the signal. It can be better with raw signal from the camera, taht might work, you will get days of head ace :D

  • soon thy will fit the camera and the computer and the electrodes all within the eye.

  • I think nanotech will take us MUCH further with this type of technology.

  • the question is... where is my jetpack?

  • so now all they need to do is to increase number of electrodes on that implant. Wait, I just got a better way to save those people. It would be better if someone can insert a small screen in front of the good retina, then those people with partially damaged retina would regain vision almost perfectly.

there is how it will work.

  • 1) implant a small color screen in front of good part of the retina.

    2) use a color camera like the one in film

    3) image captured from camera send to small color screen in front of retina

    4) retina is stimulated and send signal to optic nerve

    5) what you get is full color vision resolution depend on technology

  • I wish the vid could have given a better demonstration of this technology, its truly an amazing innovation.

  • its like that guy from harry potter 3

  • everything happens before it hits tv...

  • Very interesting breakthrough news, tks to post it. Technology is getting closer to change all user's interface we know today.

  • wow i can see the devolopments in this technology before it has happened... thanks for posting
