  • Nothing in the military base on Gibraltar could happen without the knowledge of British and without interference so He was killed by the British

  • There is NO WAY guy at beggining of video could get his ass out alive from that spin and stop fire... No fucking way.... He staled, hes engine started to burn and all most exploded, fire in all around him and inside of plane.... No that would explode in 2 seconds....

  • Comment removed

  • @SeRgA123456789 Well obviously he did. Read the book Thunderbolt! By MAJ Johnson. You neglect to remember that it has the P&W R2800 Double-Wasp radial engine. The engine could loose multiple cylinders, and could still fly. Which is why it did not explode, the radial engines can take much more damage. If this plane had an in-line engine then yes. It would have exploded. But it didn't.

  • @Anthrax602 I know all that... I'm big "fan" of WWII and special planes from WWII.... But still... It was like he is stone droped from plane falling dow at speed not more then 150 km/h..... That is not enough to level up the plane and keep flying..... AND... What about burns.... From that flame, he would lose hes eyes... Not just have, as narrator said small pain.... Hes face would be burned and hands to... At least 2nd degree burns... And that hurt as hell. I know, once my arm was on fire -.-

  • Most people don't know this, but the P-47 was designed by a Russian exhile Alexander Seversky. Russians tend to build things for ruggedness (just look at the IL-2 and the AK-47) so its not surprise to see those traits brought to the P-47.

  • I really wanna see an episode where ex nazis are talking about the p51s they took down.

  • Tim Grace, WE FUCKING KNOW THAT HE COULDN'T GET OUT, WE KNOW THIS STOP REPEATING IT!

  • one historian said with 8 50.cal machine guns the thunderbolds armament was heavier than of any other ww2 fighter... id say the fw190a was heavier equipped... it only hat 6 guns but therefore 4 cannons which probably had a much deadlier punch.

  • If it's so heavy how come it can reach 500 mph?

  • @yuv06 18 cylinders, 2000HP. It better have good performance. Fuel must have been consumed like crazy though.

  • so is this why the A-10 is also named the Thunderbolt, because of similar emphasis on ruggedness?

  • @manofsan dunno..was thinking that it was speed that gave it its name...but the A-10 is turbofan jet...built slow for attack runs...kinda ironic tho...O.o

  • @manofsan the P-47 and A-10 were both made by the same company. Republic Aviation built the P-47, then later after they merged with Fairchild Aviation Parts, they became Fairchild Republic Aviation and built the A-10. They named the A-10 Thunderbolt 2 cause it was built to be rugged and tough, just like the P-47. These planes are made to protect the pilot and come home.

  • @wildcardleader23 I noticed the P-47 Thunderbolt and the A10 Thunderbolt two are practically almost 'related' to one another despite being more than 20 years apart and in differing roles - but dimension size wise, durability, firepower and speed are practically the same surprisingly - its quite exciting to see the two fly side by side in airshows...

  • they didn't mention that the p-47 thunderbolt was designed by two russians refugees that want to escape bolsheviks

  • Man, this plane can take a lot of shots and still have the landing gear operational, imagine it with 4x 20mm hispanos (same as F4U-C) or with 30mm, lol uberplane?!

  • i love this plane its like a hellcat and a p51 married and had a baby :)

  • I never understood the earlier model of the P-47. Why the metal parts surrounding the cockpit cover the gunsight. (sorry I don't know the correct term) If an enemy was so far away, how would the pilot see it?

  • what would you do if u had to pee -_-

  • @popsnacks2 It's called a relief tube

  • @jaymoe67 thanks because i was just wondering. six hours. even if u had gone before you went up i doubt you would be able to hold it lol

  • @jaymoe67 The Gatorade bottle hadn't been invented yet. It's basically a funnell on the end of a long rubber hose.

  • It's Not a Dogfight it's a Tank Fight

  • Gostei

  • P-47 was larger, had more 50cal machine guns, and could withstand much more enemy fire than the p-51. And was only 4 mph slower.

  • I admit I enjoy watching this video series, but be fair and dont be a douche bag by claiming this is your 'production' when anyone knows this is off the History Channel.

    Thats really a fucking disgrace.

  • this is awesome! thanks for uploading. can you try uploading the flying tigers? thnx.

    XD

  • I'm sorry, but this is nothing but bullshit. These stories of "I shot down 10 Germans while whistling dixie, on fire and spinning out of control" just doesn't work in the real world.

  • favorite wwII fighters and bombers; and this is coming from an usaaf enthusiast with some navy added in :^) 1. P-47 with razorback canopy, the bubble canopy on the jug looks ugly 2. F6F Hellcat 3. P-51 4. P61 5. P-38 Bombers: 1. B-17 2. B-24 3. B-26 4. B-29 5. B-25 6. SB2C Helldiver
  • DAAAAMN!! the Thunderbolt was badass! if i was a fighter pilot back then i'd choose the P-47 over the P-51 anyday!

  • DUDE!! AWESOME!! I was at the edge of my seat!

  • Robert S. Johnson and his P-47 were assigned with the 61st FS, 56th FG, 8th AF. HV squadron code.

  • who was that one me-109 pilot who had 300some kills

  • @kf103 Erich Hartmann got 352 kills piloting the Me-109 Gerhard Barkhorn got 301 kills piloting both the Me-109 and the Fw-190.

  • @Eboreg2 k thanks

  • Honestly, I can't see why everyone seems to think the P-51 was better than the P-47. Sure, it had higher range and manuverability, but, with the paddle-blade props Johnson mentions in THUNDERBOLT!, the P-47 had higher speed, ceiling, dive rate, firepower, and durability.

  • I wonder y the History channel deleted good shows and put in bad ones :l

  • @elithompandre8266 They ran out of balls.

  • @LtNomad120mm So true.

  • @elithompandre8266

Reality shows are cheaper to produce. They get a similar number of people still watching, just fewer people that actually have an interest in history. If they're still making the same revenue and spending less to make it, they're only going to be worried about that bottom line. It's sad.

  • @DOSEmulation True...

  • @DOSEmulation Well then why is the channel named the "History" channel still?

  • @elithompandre8266 It retains the name because of its former programming focus and the name franchise. It is also a parent to other subsidiary channels to which their good shows migrated such as History International and the Military Channel. They still produce and play some good shows, but it's diluted with nonsense.

  • @elithompandre8266 hardly anything on the history channcel counts as history. The military channel needs this show

  • @elithompandre8266 Like this show and battle 360 and patton 360. To me now history channel only worries about religion shit and 2012 and our enviorment.

  • @elithompandre8266 Lol seriously. How'd we go from dogfights to Hairy Bikers?!

  • @elithompandre8266 Its cause of dumb emo type retarded people who can't understand the importance of this type of educational material they think their kids don't need it and that its too.. graphic yet they encourage... drama and material that is unhealthy for everyone look at you for example gotta use emotes which shows just how dramatic you are

  • bloody hell its like friggen huricane vs. spitfire here jeeze just to set you guys strait the p-51 was a better fighter the p-47 was better bomber but could still stand a fair chance against some of germanys best fighters when needed. think what went to germany with the bombers before the mustang took that job? both planes are equaly succesfull.

  • i like the 190 and 109

  • I like the P-51

  • we all do

  • dont get me wrong the P-51 is one of my favorite fighter aircraft of all time but its inline-engine was more easilly to bring down

  • but it was very difficult to get it down in the first place

  • buddy one bullet in the right spot will surely bring it down

  • although you must admit, it's better armored than an A6M2 Zero

  • no shit the A6M2 wasnt made to be armored the japanese philosophy is attack a good offense will make a good defense which wasnt that good

  • @P51F86F4F15F22

Late in the war, they did come up with excelent plane but it was too litle, too late.

Air cooled 2000hp engine, high altitude/pressurized cabin, cannons, armour everywhere. Last one is standing next to a 47 in Udvar-Hazy museum in Chantily near Dulles Int. airport.

  • wasnt air cooled still an inlined engine but your right about all of the other specifications and not to mention those newer models where lighter and easier to handle and more maneuvarable

  • @DrPilotRedC

That's no brainer! Zero had nothing that looked like armour on it!

The same mentality, dictated to install an unprotected gass tank in front of a pilot, see Huricanes and Spits. In the Mustang, at least, extra tank was behind the pilot so the possible flame thrower was not in his face.

  • Bo Schitt.

  • @P51F86F4F15F22 A bullet in the radiator would soon cause an overheat and subsequent seizure of the P-51's Packard Merlin V-1650 liquid-cooled V-12.

The Jug's Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp 18 cylinder twin row radial had no radiator; it was air-cooled. It could lose a few cylinders and still run!

  • @ironfalcon100 no shit

  • @P51F86F4F15F22

Ya'lls argument, P47 vs P51 is going on 65 years and I doubt it will ever be settled!

As far as my butt is concerned, I'll stick with anything that would bring it back to the house so I can fight another day. And that is the vote for '47 boys!

Read 56 combat reports and you will find that 47 could out turn 109 at three level, run a Messershmit out of gass over Germany and break telephone poles in half and still get back to England!

O! and P51 is just pretty!

  • the only really good part of the p51 was the range. having the longest range of any single engine fighter.. hence it protected the b17s raiding germany... this is where the fame comes from not cause it was a particular good dog fighter or anything

  • th p47 d was awsome cause it was the fastest single engine fighter or ww2 could also out climb most planes cause of its hudge engine and massive superchargers

  • @hetmanbasza that jug trying to run the german out of gas over his own base was a polish pilot using johnson's plane. is guns jammed. he was matching it turn for turn. and i thought twas a 190. and yes, i remembered that a jug hit a telephone pole, shearing a portion of its wing and yet continue to fly home. (from thunderbolt by R.S. Johnson). Johnson stated that :unless we plunge the jug straight down, we could not hurt it".

  • @burjegol

10-4. We seem to have read the same book.

I hated the fact that Johnson retired in SC and I did not know about that untill he passed away. I would love to get his autograph and ask him a few questions...

The other person deserving our gratitude is the man who designed P-47. If I remember corectly he was born in Russia, emigrated to US and later started company that become Republic.

  • @hetmanbasza yessir. the only other thing was that, Johnson passed away with no direct descendant. what became of him after his tour was the irony of most veteran combat pilots. selling war bonds. they were together for a time with dick bong but bong managed to wangle a second tour, hence was able to up his scroe to 40.

  • @hetmanbasza and one more thing. of all the fighter groups in the ETO, only the 56th continued to fly the jug. they tamed the beast. And twas the zemke wolfpack than started the zemke fan, i.e. spreading far ahead of the bombers to scout for intercepting germans. the 4th FG hated the jug hence immediately switched to p-51 when it became available.

  • the P-47 and the P-51(which the P-51 did as the F-51 and many were lost to ground fire) should have served in Korea then the thunderbolt should have served in Veitnam i think but thats just me

  • Indeed.

  • jets had come into play

  • I wonder if the 190 pilot who initially attacked Johnson was credited with a victory?

  • no he wasnt...he wrote in his biographie that he not even wantet du get credit for a kill... he said "ill shot him to pieces...but he kept flying...so its not a kill."

  • i was thinking the same thing

  • I take the thunderbolt over the P-51 anyday.

  • @shouavaj12 me 2 or the P-38

  • just a question. Why is it that only the first video in all your dogfights series is available in HQ and not the others?

  • I guess it just uploads that way. I really don't have a clue.

  • @boedonaldson because it makes it look better.

  • im a little shit? i wasn't talking to you....and im talking about alot of the people on here who think they know and im sick of it it maybe you know your stuff thats cool...but some people seem like they dont know and talk about something they don't know about

  • It sounded like you're talking to me.

  • stop reading youtube comments its like a drug it rots ur brain just like watching the sound of music, i dont know the argument im def not taking sides but u spelt the word 'alot' wrong too

  • Really? You think so? Well guess what, I've been around numerous aircraft of this type and flown in most of them, so before you comment on MY video, you better know what you're going to say. Did you ever think that perhaps not everybody spends as much time by these warbirds as I do? That's why I try to educate others, and then some little shit like you comes along.

  • @Historystartsnow uve flown in a p47 thunderbolt? how can i do that? because i would love to go for a ride in one!

  • @Historystartsnow What the hell? the plane escape even it got fire?

  • @PlushGallade because it was not made in china

  • @TheUnforgivingOne

Before you ask me back, just look the video, if you don't like it, just go search other video, maybe you didn't see the full video after asking him.

  • top speed os a p-47 was 433....500+ in a dive maybe(which it was unmatched),but im not here to correct an historian like myself. This is an amazing story of the jugs ruggedness....unbelievavble.Thanks for the upolad HSN.

  • The N model which was late in the war was in the range of 460-475 . post european campaign entry into the war. fought exclusively in the pacific

  • i stand corrected.

  • @rjrassets True, and all of the P-47Ns were built at Republic Aviation's plant in Farmingdale, NY.
