Tell all those afficondos to jump in a lake! Appreciate the Dano for what it is- a wonderfully, unsual guitar. Why don't you guys name dropping this dude or that blues player, post something of your own blues playing.? So you going to tell that the early blues master who played on cheap acoustics don't cut it because it doesn't sound like this or like that????
is that back silver thing a pickup because it looks like the bridge thingy and looks like he is playing in the place where the strings go down im not sure never played 1 of those kinda guitars :P
they are distinct in tone, but still pretty versatile. great for jangly 60s stuff... almost like a rickenbacker... for surf though... the tone is fine, but some guys like to have a whammy bar for surf stuff (dick dale vibe)
Wonderful-your licks are a nice retreat back to what the blues used to sound like, when the feel of the playing was slower, more relaxed, and more fluid. Great job!
The amp is a roland micro cube. Tiny little solid state thing. Great for practising indoors without fear of waking the neighbours! No effects, just straight into the amp.
I think he's got an interesting tone, but yeah, he could of been better off turning the treble down on his amp or using the neck pickup (If he isn't already.)
If you're unfamiliar with Johnny Guitar Watson, and your frame of reference is "blues rock" - then it is entirely possible that you may not be the most qualified person around to make pronouncements on whether or not a Danelectro sounds "too thin for blues" or not.
do you really need tabs man? the video shows you what he is playing and the temp isn't too fast. You can figure it out, you can do it man, I know you can....

You might want to try getting a Jaguar if you want to play surf music.

i ended up getting a Danelectro U2 and i love it... maybe someday i'll get a jaguar, but i'd consider a jazzmaster too!

perfect for surf rock. especially if you snag one with a tremolo arm. I just kick up the reverb and go to town.

is that lefty strung upside down? Either that or the light is making the E and B look like wound strings?
BluesHeavy 3 years ago
No, just a regular right handed guitar strung regular with 10-46's.

You nailed that old school blues tone!

I never really liked these danelectros for the blues, i awlways thought the tone was a little too thin. More of a
chicken-pickin type guitar

You guys are nuts. Intentionally or not, he totally nails Johnny Guitar Watson's early 60s tone. The phrasing is nice, too.
sophistikittenlin 3 years ago
Not nuts, just unfamiler with Johnny Watson. I wouldn't call you nuts if you never heard of Glenn Kaiser or Mike Choby.
