  • 1) She looks happy here, like she was really enjoying herself. 2) If that's not raw talent, then I don't know what raw talent is.

  • who's that nice man???

It isn't Toussiant McCall, is it??!

  • tears from heart, bliss to heart

  • Thumbs up if dumb and dumber brought you here

  • @bxkvenom65 I've been wondering who originally did this song ever since that movie came out! Inez and Charlie Parker, but it sounds like it could've been Aretha's!

  • it was Inez Foxx

  • It seems any song Aretha performs is the best rendition of that song no matter who else performs it.

  • LOL Harry and Lloyd

  • A YOUNG aretha

  • heavy shit man.......dig it

  • never seen Aretha so happy, she's just joyful!

  • This song + Cheeseburger + A New Division jacket= American dream

  • amazing! they just sit there and squirt their soul into our ears and on our hearts... And yes, I'm aware of the sexual innuendo.

    :)

  • DUMB AND DUMBER FTW~!!!

  • Love e pant suit!

  • Ms. Aretha at her magnetic and captivating best. Surpasses Inez& Charlie Foxx, who were excellent!!

  • ....and I only knew the version of Carly Simon & James Taylor till today.....

  • @immortelle3 you should listen Charles and Ines Foxx original version

  • wow, simply awesome...

  • Black everything

  • Loved it, thank you

  • Nce I love it and can't get enough of it

  • Sooooo beautiful!

  • dumb and dumber sent me here

  • my mommy used to sing this song to me as a lullaby :)

  • Her voice was a one and only. You can imitate and compare. There is no comparison to Aretha Franklin.

  • all the best music i swear was written in the 60s.

  • Love it!

  • The video quality is better but it is a lip sync of the song rather than live. I'll take the live performance.

  • loyd y harry ajjaja

  • Damn. Why is this so good and it's older than me?

  • In The First 11 Seconds, First Thought: "Dumb and Dumber, Oh Shit" (:

  • it is such a beautiful duo... with 2 fantatic artists and souls.

makes me feeling good. something communicative !

    <3

  • Thats soo cool!!!:-)))

  • This arrangement was written by Johnny O'Keefe from Australia. In those days you could not copyright an arrangement, so he never got a cent for all the times American artists covered it. You can also find James Taylor and Carly Simon doing the same arrangement. Bobby McFerrin does a different, but fantastic arrangement. You can find all these on youtube.

  • Dumb and Dumber RULE!!!!!!!!

  • @kor1986 MOCK-YEAH-ING-YEAH-MOCKINBIRD with the dude in the middlee just going crazy. "

    They've got to be pro's"

  • Aretha Franklin is incomparable. Just stunning! :)

  • A song so catchy sung by the Queen of Soul only take 2 minutes and 22 seconds is outrageous! This song should have at least 30 minutes!

  • Happy birthday, Aretha! You are truly an American treasure. When I hear you sing, I feel freedom, no matter what I'm going through at the time. Thank you for the gift you've blessed us with!

  • Woow! I didn't think this song went so back. :O

1st I saw- Dumb and Dumber

2nd- Toby Keith with his daughter

3rd- Carly Simon and James Taylor

    4th- Aretha Franklin :D

  • that guy looks like a skeleton... o_O

  • "MOCK! SI, ING, SI, BIRD, SI!"

    dumb and dumber ftw

  • 7 people like to shoot mockingbirds.

  • Just awesome! I hope Aretha enjoy looking at these videos of herself as much I do. Just bring back so many memories and good times.

  • The real dynamic duo Mr. Johnson and Aretha.

  • just incredible....is there anything that aretha can sing that she doesn't make her own? i am just in awe of her

  • Even though I've followed her since the sixties I'd forgotten Aretha was pretty as well as being talented.... Thanks for posting!

  • check out this vid for a laugh 'dumb and dumber mockingbird scene'

  • Music is evolving...your comments can stop it.you can download the full album from downloadmusic.im

  • Great song by a great singer. Love it.

  • @love182427 it was first done by Innez Foxx 1963 at least it's the first I know of

  • Perfection!!!

  • Aren't we lucky to share the planet earth with this woman?

  • This woman is amazing.

  • OMG she sang it so amazingly! i first discovered this version of the song at my choir, we're singing it at the moment approximately like this except of course no Aretha... anyway i love it! If anybody would like to hear our choir performing this song please let me know and i'd be happy to upload the video

  • Aretha could sing the phone book and make it a classic! All Hail The Queen!!!

  • @deeway1963 She is amazing. The guy playing the piano, all those teeth, is kind of sexy, I think. He just looks sexy to me.

  • dance music..old-style!

  • the genius of the twentieth century

  • RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEETHA!

  • Amazing. Just wish I could have been there, but it was before I was born!

  • awesum...

  • beautiful

  • Go head girl.....

  • smart agent to pair these two

  • wow! what a set of a teeth!

  • what a voice!!!!

  • GO SISTA!!

  • Aretha is so beatiful!

  • This is the aretha i love

  • She does seem to be enjoying herself. I heard her early version (somewhat longer) of Amazing Grace on NPR, and have been unable to find it on YouTube.

  • Aretha has so much power to her voice and still tons of control. She is the Queen of Soul.

  • I just met Ray Johnson, and he is a really cool, nice guy

  • She's great but so is Dusty Springfield. Check out her version.

  • @readerbabe1984

I love me some Dusty Springfield, but I have to say Queen Aretha definitely wins for best performance of this song. Every version I've heard Dusty sing (particularly the one backed by the Echoes) felt really stiff and awkward.

  • Didn't know this dude Ray Johnson before seeing this vid. He is cool!!

  • The Queen of Soul. I rest my case.

  • Aretha gurrl !! You sing it !! x

  • great fun! and, they both looked like they had come straight from the dentist's office! lol

  • This totally changes my view of Aretha. I grew up knowing the giant haired hefferpotimus Urethra Franklin screaming about R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Hot, sexy and vocally unmatched! Dam girl, you got my respect. Sorry I missed your glory years. It would be like if someone ONLY knew of fat sweaty 1970's Viva las vegas Elvis. I officially opologize for ever calling her Urethra. Dang! Im just stunned. Awsome. Thanks so much for the post

  • True soul

  • Wow. This had me almost crying towards the end! And it comes to her so naturally. She is definitely the queen! All Hail Aretha!!

  • Sang it , heffa!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • She ripped out the hair roots of every diva with this.

  • Aretha Franklin

Was a good singer of all times and I agree she will always be the queen of soul.

    Heidi

  • That is a voice and talent take a lifetime to grow into.

  • amazing duo! and amazing teeth on that guy! lol!

  • She was so pretty back then..and thin..lol

  • @adrianehm she's plump (not fat) when young

  • look at the audience?

  • I love this so much:)

  • im 16 and I love music from this time

  • Her voice is like slik. My God. Just beautiful

  • I don't listen to soul music much, but there are things you gotta hear to be a human being.

  • I am so in awe right now of this woman's voice that I didn't even realize I was crying. Holy wow.

  • This IS SO COOL!! Growing up in The Motor City during the Sixties was such a privilege being near to ALL The Motown and Detroit Rock n Roll shows. Now, Living in Music City as an adult has been equally rewarding!

  • And there it is!!!! Nothin more to say!!!!

  • Aretha sure dont look like that anymore! My how the mighty have fallen! She was excellent in her time>

  • @countrytom72 Aretha is still mighty.

  • @TheQueenAretha I never said she wasn't

  • They are wonderful, i love this song!!! shout outs!!!

  • What year was this?

  • - Pianist smile ??

    - Invaluable ;-) ;-) ;-)

  • that's some severe dumb and dumber shit

  • @kopkaas85 we got a wiseass here right?

  • Yes That man is Mr. Ray Johnson, and he is very much alive and you can see him LIVE at the Arcadia blues club in Arcadia CA.! HE PLAYS AND SINGS INCREDIBLE...!

  • She looks hot and he looks like the Black version of Ron Howard's brother.

  • Hahahahaha!

  • she was sexy!!!

  • God save the Queen!

  • 1:27 - What did she say, Heaven knows!

  • She said: "I love him and it's though he doesn't know"

  • she sings like someone whos in love

  • true. whenever im in love, that voice comes out of my mouth

  • Always loved this song - and to hear the Queen sing it - and totally nail it, just fantastic. Many many thanks for posting this.

  • Now THATS Rocksteady

  • That girl SANGS!

  • Ray Johnson has some jaw

  • OMG! Now THATS Soul!

Thank you so much for this post!

  • And that's why she's the queen of soul.

  • The man's name is Ray Johnson--a long time session musician, who played with Nat King Cole and Ray Charles, among others. He's still doing gigs in the Los Angeles area. Last night he was at Henri's in Canoga Park. Still has it!!!

  • for freakin' real!? damn....

  • Thank you he seems a gentle soul with a smile quite capable of melting a mountain, excellent thing he still delivers wonderful perfomances, thanks & cheers.

  • Eligible song!

  • Go on Areatha this is singing. What a voice. 6****** This song by Areatha and friend is super and this is my first time hearing it. Thanks youtube.

  • Absolutely brilliant. XD

  • groovin

  • Dang Aretha you looking good sister. Very pretty.

  • Hallo Janka ja das ist toll!

  • Brave man singing with the very great AF.

  • He's got a solid voice himself, and seems to be enjoying himself.

  • what a cute face!!! i love her hair this way. she ws so young here... what energy and love comes out of her eyes...

  • peacelorna, my roots lead to LOUISIANA as well. Like you, my grandmother (Madear) played the piano "by ear" and sang. And might I add, she did both well?.... Louisiana is like another country. The history and culture contained in that one state is phenomenal

  • the most beautiful woman of all time

  • This is awesome seeing this old video of Aretha wow love this song. so many great musicians, singers, performers came and come from New Orleans, Louisiana. My family roots are from there, my mother played the piano, never took lessons, she just loved to entertain people.

  • good ole New Orleans R&B.

  • whose the guy singing with her.... I love the way his sharp penetrating voice plays with Aretha's soulful power.

  • The gentleman is Ray Johnson. His younger brother is Plas Johnson, the deep sax player from Mancini's "Pink Panther" theme song. They are from a creole Louisiana family that had musical talent. Apparently, Ray played many years for Los Angeles venues. I believe he is still alive, perhaps in his seventies? I like his voice paired with the First Lady of Soul. Enjoy!

  • Thanks for the information. :-)

  • i'll buy the bird and ring anytime!!! LOVE YA ARETHA!!!! THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES!!!!!!!

  • THANKS FOR POSTING

    after MJ ........

  • warm and lovely.

  • was this altered? i have every note memorized and it suddenly seems that she is in better voice? and singing different parts at the same time? ...NOT a complaint-i still love it

  • normally, everything on TV shows is playback. just because on live-shows there is too much that could go wrong (the mic doesnt work and so on ) and they already got enough technical stuff to look for with the cameras and the lights :)

  • i mean it's changed from what i had previously seen. notes are different or improved. i love this lady

  • now that's what I call music.. we seem to miss that nowadays ;( I wish I lived in those years..damn

  • lol

    that is real music!!

  • Love this song!

    Great video!

    thank you

  • damn.... that guy is HER mockingbird.

    hahaha

  • Great singer!

  • She's sooo great! Love to see her so thin and healthy looking.

  • Great duet, great performance

  • Awesome cover of the song.

  • gold

  • what a smile

  • THE QUEEN IN WAITING

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! To the one and only Queen in American music. The Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin. She is 67 today. By the way it was 1967 that she recorded her ultra hit R E S P E C T.

  • i heard a better version,, but she still my girl

  • wooh ree love it

  • Who did the original version that Dumb Dumb and Dumber imitated

  • Hey.. wanna hear the most annoying sound in the world?

  • And by the way, why can't we see great live performances like this on TV today instead of mediocre crap like American Idol?

  • because there are no G L Ps like this today that 's Y U tube is so cool PLUS U don't have to wait for it to come on it's there when U want it, by the way U look good for 108

  • The problem with Aretha is, once she got done singing a song -- it was sung.

  • o k'c bon!!!!!

  • Awesome :o yea man ;)

  • EXELLENT!

  • Love this song.

  • I feel sorry for people who only know James Taylor and Carly Simon. As good as they are, this version and the one by Charlie and Inez Foxx are killer.

    Sensational! Thanks for posting.

  • E chi sono sti taylor simons?

    Questi sono bravissimi!!!!!

    Brava aretha!

  • thanks for this video, lol retha looks so genius.

  • Ron Howards's brutha?

  • Aretha is cute as a button in this!

  • Shindig! must have been a great tv program. I am not tired of seeing here his wonderful performances.

  • Amazing!! Up to the 70s Aretha did only a few duets, and almost none were recorded. In a nutshell: I think this duet is one of the best ever made in the history of music. It's perfect. I downloaded it a while ago and have seen it many many times since. Thanks so much for sharing!

And for the record: The guy is definitely Ray Johnson, and the TV Show the vid is taken from is SHINDIG, aired on March 10th 1965.

  • BTW: The studio version of this song (w/ Ray Johnson) is on Aretha's 1964 LP "Runnin' Out Of Fools". The live version is way better, though

  • I think that is Ray Johnson here. Google "ray johnson" and aretha on Google images.
