  • jhanjra : ankle bracelet with lots of small bells

  • very nice from algeria

  • ...with Canadian/Celtic violinist Natalie MacMaster. Great fusion of 2 incredible musical traditions.

  • Totally aggree. I heard a song of hers on CBC this afternoon, and the fusion blend on this albumn is awesome

  • Que linda cancion creo que es un ghazal pero tiene cierta mezcla folk, y la cantante es muy bella

  • Jhanjran = dancing bells generally worn on ankles during dancing.

One can see those worn by Indian Classical dancers.

I have received some emails saying that in my previous post (below) that the translation of Jhanran as -a set of little bells tied to ankles is not quite right. It should have been the dancing bells tied to ankles. I apologize for the mistranslation.

  • A bit difficult to translate the sense and the feeling of the lyrics. Song is about a young girl who has tied a set of little bells to her ankles and is walking with a style. As she walks, her youthful walk and beautiful face is creating havoc in the hearts of onlookers The lyricist cautions the girl to walk slowly and carefully; and cover her face in soft silk scarf OR, she is liable to catch too many unwanted eyes. Song is in Punjabi, the language of Punjab- the land of Kirans ancestors.

  • I like her music .........alot !

  • Put &fmt=18 at the end of the URL to listen in Stereo an much better audio quality !

  • A masterpiece from the extraordinary Debut Album "Kiran Ahluwalia". Listen & Enjoy it.
