Thanks for your post, will conduct our experiment myself next time we get some rain blowing in from the north. I have noticed higher background readings generally over the last few months in S/E Melbourne.
@OZTLC40 Hi mate, your help in proving these are not fake would be of great value to those who doubt! I would love to meet up and compare results. Leave contact details on my channel. Thanks.
Got a sample last night (22/10/2011) from a nor west west thunder storm. I did a 3hr time lapse so people can see the decay rate and what I have been considering normal since owning a counter. This is why I started posting videos in late September when readings were so high. I am still having a lot of people doubting my other videos!!! I will upload tonight.
I also would like you and everyone's attention on this website;

to oppose the expansion of Olympic Dam uranium mine.
High radiation could be from Fukushima, but might not be. Just want everyone not to be mislead if it's not. This Olympic Dam uranium mine is also north-west direction from Melbourne and said radiation is now being released out from there.
Your positive action could stop the Olympic Dam uranium mine expansion. Thank you. No more Fukushima!
Surprisingly too high to think the contamination over 4mcSv/h is fm Fukushima. Could be possible, but can't believe as it's too high. West part of Japan even doesn't have that high. (I understand if this is measured in around Tokyo area tho) Is there possibility that it came from mining facility where an accident happened in this April, or Maralinga (nuke experiments) or China (ditto)? In anyway it's very serious. If it's fm Fukushima, it could be a big problem.
Did my windscreen samples when rains arrived from the north west (Melbourne Australia) – 0.61 uSv/hr ten hours later the sample is reading 0.26? Is this radon? I have been assured the really high readings I posted on youtube are radon? The samples seem to be staying radioactive for longer even though they are lower readings? Who lives around me so I can share the cost of a lab test?
Thank you so much for sharing! I was in Tokyo for 311, Came straight back to Austrlia but suspected here it must be contaminated too.. Would love to find out the readings for SA
Hello from Japan. if you put your tester near the rain gutter (where rainwater gets soaked in to the soil or sewage) and the readings jump, then it is like the fukushima contamination where nuke plume had somehow been generated and floated towards Melbourne. If the gutter readings are'nt so high, then it is the car window problem and the issue is where it had drove through. Any mining facility near you?
@8447876 No uranium mines in Victoria. There are many around Australia though! We are about to get more rain from the north so I will see what happens as all readings since then are pretty normal.
How about suspecting uranium mining industries in Australia? There was massive radioactive leaks in Kakadu. The Sydney Morning Herald was reporting it this April. Those are also exported to Japan.
Our food is the main concern, and based on this readings the problems to food contamination ATM are very small. Our aussie children in 50 years will probably not like this and they will be finding small spots of abnormal cell growth on a microcellular within their bodies and complain over years to come. But that happens too from cosmic rays and normal levels of contamination. Some are luckier than others We all get irradiated by numerous contaminants, it all adds up. Closer to japan is :(
If this is 5-8 uSV then it is tiny. 1 SV = 100 rem & 100 rem is not good. We are talking 0.0005 rem.
The dirt off the windshield is what worries me & it needs to be spectral anaylized for radioactive heavy metals. Everything is based on coloumbs/kg but if this shit gets into your body odd thing will turn up on a micro celluar level.
50 rem is clinical, but it is supposed that one has a short term dose, cleans & rids themselves of dust dirt and possible contaminants & moves to a safer area.
"ATMOSPHERIC WASHOUT OF RADON SHORT-LIVED DAUGHTERS:
IMPLICATIONS FOR THE RADIATION DOSE TO THE SKIN"
It is especially dangerous for farmers and other people who work outdoors. Up to 30% of skin cancer cases amongst framers could be due to natural radon gas in rain.
@Diamonddavej Hi, do you happen to have a link to any resources I could read? The high readings scared me but I did not have my counter before the Japan disaster. Any resources are and would be helpful. Cheers.
@Toadmacshutitdown Google with quotes - "Measurement of radioactivity of radon decay products in rainwater with a handheld radiation detector" - a student at Berkeley Uni investigated radon in rain. Also read - "EPA RadNet spikes are due to Radon decay products" <--- Lots of info there.
Also, see the latest Japanese radiation measurements, radiation in Japan is normal, except for Fukushima (obviously).
"Reading of environmental radioactivity level by prefecture(14:00 October 17, 2011)"
It's due to natural radon gas in the rain. It's called radon washout.
Its higher when the wind comes from the north, because the radon emanates from rock (land), gets sucked up into clouds, in particular Thunderstorms and is rained back down.
Here is a paper about it.
"Intense gamma radiation from radon progeny accreted in/on rain during and following thunderstorms"
here in wellington new zealand i did the same test with my geiger counter when it rained today (10 oct 2011) and there is NO increase over back ground radiation levels.
@prickett233 Hi, that is great to hear! I was raised in Nelson. Before doing my tests on the rain I watch the world weather satellite and watch for weather swirling down from the northern hemisphere, Asia regions coming down across Australia. Every time this happens I get much higher readings? ?Between .8 and 8.5 uSv/hr? I have had many tell me all sorts of reasons of why (including the BS,fake and self contaminated ones) yet not one scientist or expert willing to take my challenge?
The challenge is to debunk it on film. I cannot verify what isotopes I am reading but hopefully in the near future I can have a lab test done with a scientist on film. Until then I am just guessing. But I am very convinced the answer will not be good. What is your background rad levels in Wellington?
That is not fake, its happening all over the world, just type in "radioactive rain". The radioactivity in the videos on my channel are all from Cs-134 and Cs-137.
@DocBrewster The pripyat 20.03 radiometer is a cheap start and is the one I use. They are good enough to get an idea of how radioactive something is. They are getting harder to come by now since Fuku. They are Russian and were considered the best at the time (early 90's) I got mine in a Ukrainian military surplice store. Try ebay but before making your choice be sure to read a few reviews and not just one. All the best.
This is interesrting. Could you give a summary of what you think is the cause and the conclusions from this. My immediate questions are:
1) Is this likely to be from the leaking GE nuclear plants in Fukushima
2) So is it as bad in Australia as Canada/USA (or even japan) etc (as i had heard southen hemisphere was relatively clean due to atmospheric currents essentially being boundary segregated at the equator)
@DocBrewster I am organising for the next time I get high readings to get it tested at a proper lab. As to where it comes from I have no idea? Once lab test is done I might be able to point the finger.
@Toadmacshutitdown i wonder if this has been ongoing since the Maralinga tests in the 50s (50 years is an eyeblink for some radioaactive isotopes)- just that no-one bothered to take measurements until fukushima?
Yeah gday again Toadmacshutitdown. Following recently when i too had registered a significant increase in gamma radiation during recent rain using PRA software, a GS 1100A from Bee Research in Sydney, and a Sodium iodide scintillation detector, a Bicron 1.12X1.12M3/1.12L by Saint Gobain. At this time having kept a 40 litre sample of the rain in question (No lid), i found the activity was significantly reduced when tested next day. Am acquiring a Lead castle/shielding to obtain better results.
@FrankensteinFinance Excellent! This is the sort of thing I want and people need. I too find the test samples reading normal within 10-11 hrs after the high readings. If it is radon, why so much? I have never had readings any where even close to these. My Am241 test source at 1.3 uSv/hr was the highest I had ever seen my counter go up until two weeks ago.
At this time i am pursuing the explanation which seems worthy of pursuing that these wild fluctuations can be the result of naturally occurring Radon isotopes which become scrubbed out of the air by rain and then like champagne bubbles if you like, go back into the air. In any case, i collected enough data to have the possibility of verifying by the gamma spectrum which was created with the software. I am not far off having more info on the matter and the rain in question. Steep learning curve.
But the Nuke Gang are working hard to expand the current concepts of "normal background radiation" and to further weaken the already inadequate standards which are supposed to protect us and our environment from the poisonous products of nuclear fission.
Reports by Hamilton for the Manhattan Project were not peer reviewed but they formed the basis of current "nuclear safety" standards which are manifestly inadequate, ignoring the effects of ingested hot particles.
The Manhattan Project evolved into the Atomic Energy Commission ... and a diverse multi-national array of individuals, infiltrating and hijacking governments and corporations, spreading the culture of military secrecy and propaganda science, treating the whole world as a slave camp with six billion expendable experimental animals.
Power company executives, mining company executives, politicians, academics and media figures, the media itself - all part of the Nuke Gang.
The Nuke Gang rose to power during World War 2, when in just a few years of feverish politics, science and engineering, the USA 's Manhattan Project made the bombs that were exploded in August 1945 over the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
@isilder Also this could be man made types of ionising radiation, which is considered by most scientists ( not counting scientists who work for the nuclear industry ) extremely toxic to human health when compared to natural radiation. Especially when inhaled or ingested. Look up plutonium and its health effects when it has entered ones lungs. 0.000001g (1 millionth of a gram) will kill you over a long period of time. It is extremely toxic! Be careful when researching, much disinfo around now.
Feel free to contact me . The links to the free software are on my youtube channel. @isilder My proof, watch my video "Pripyat Am241 test" and also look at this link
arpansa.gov.au/radiationprotection/factsheets/is_cosmic.cfm
'The world average is 2.4 mSv/year and the average Australian background radiation dose is around 2 mSv each year' Now lets work this out =
5.49 uSv/hr x 24hrs= 131.76 uSv in one day. 131.76 x 365(days of a year)= 48092.4 uSv/yr
48092.4 / 1000 (mSv)= 48.0924 mSv/yr = 24 x the average.
and then think about the statement you made.
