  • All these arcade shooting games must work about the same. I still didn't see how the witch was moved up and down.

  • Since this game is based on shots and not time, what would happen if a player put their quater in, took 10 shots, then left. Does the machine have a mechanism to shut it off if on and not in use after a period of time? I assume the machine could overheat if left on all day...?

  • Yep, that's the problem with many electromechanical games, there is no "timeout" circuit in them. The game would just continue to run all day...

  • @5inthehole - I don't know if it was this particular game as we're talking nearly 35 years ago but I do recall playing and being 1 shot away from a replay (and only having one shot left!) with this bloody witch going up & down, back and forth etc. I took ages trying to get my shot just right..... anyway after a time (5 minutes say) the game just stopped.

  • Cool video! I am working on a 1967 midway captain kid. It works about the same as your but no 8 track sound.

  • Wonderful.

That game is some of my earliest memories of life. I must have been about 6 in the dark, back, smoky gameroom in a Shakey's pizza parlor with my older brothers, begging to be lifted high enough to see in it. The graveyard and sound will be etched in my memory for life, and I haven't seen on in person since then.

The tour of it you provide here is no less fascinating. A beautiful contraption.

  • Great story, thanks for sharing! -KK

  • Had one of these in our amusement arcade until we sold it in the mid 1990s' The kids loved it, it earned steadily for all the time it was there. Never gave us any problems either. Love the video, and thanks for the memories.

  • This is fantastic. I always assumed that it was a light gun. I have fond memories of these electromechanical games from the arcades in the 70's. They are true classics. Thank you.

  • Thank you for this. It was very informative.

  • Awesome. I have this game in my back room. There is so much junk piled around it, I can't find the on-off switch by feeling. I came here looking for the switch location, and found this amazing video. I never had a key for the back, so seeing the tour was fascinating. Thank for taking the time. Now I have to dig out all the junk so I can find that darn switch.

  • Wow! Loved how you go into the machine and explain how everything works. Never would dream the machine is that complicated.

  • @highschoolveggie These are relatively simple - wait until you see inside a bingo machine (AKA inline machine). :)

  • Watch it buster dont do that i could make a whole track out of this

    cool

  • Great video and game! How much does and ok machine go for?

  • Wow, this is a pretty cool vid.

This is the first time I get to see a game of this type in action, since I was not around when these were in arcades.

The machine looks to be in excellent condition too.

I actually wish I owned this myself!

  • Very interesting. I had wondered how those old machines worked.

  • One of the first electromechanical games this boy ever played (it was near the registers of our local JM Fields!) I had to stand on a stool to play it. What memories your video brought back, Thank You! If you ever want to part with get a hold of me!

  • VERY nicely done video. Thank you for sharing this! What an amazing (and complex) machine! I had no idea how these machines worked.

  • I had one of these machines, wish I never got rid of it!

  • I was born '71 so these are b4 my time but I love them. I wish somebody would make an emulator for these old games. Kinda like the emulators for the little Mattel, Coleco, etc battery powered Hand Held Game & Watch games/emulators or Virtual Pinball. These games are so rare though, compared with the hand held games. It wold be hard/time consuming. I wish there was an arcade filled with games like this. They should have a "National Arcade Museum" with games up to the Video game crash.

  • @gjc82071 there is a big one in las vegas.

  • Thank you for making this. I watched from start to finish. Do you have the 8track recording backed up on cd incase the tape goes bad?

  • Thanks for the kind words. Yes I have all the audio digitized and backed up in my computer. This game would be an excellent candidate for my solid state replacement sound system because of the way that the audio is played from the 8-track tape. Maybe someday I'll take the time to make a replacement sound board for this game. Have a great day, Kevin.

  • i remember playing this game as well it was the earlie 90s it was avalible for about a week then it disipeared the screeching of the gun was hard on the ears

  • MusicOfAdam welcome to the future nintendo wii has carnival shootout now for the wii market place haunted hunt is almost like this game its 700 wii points and yes u shoot a witch

  • Oh happy memories of all the old EM games of my youth when arcades were SO cool. No wonder I bought so many once I was earning a wage. ;)

  • Believe it or not, the game's concept bears SOME originalities. You never shoot a witch with a shotgun in video games, nowadays. [The "Witch" from Left 4 Dead does not count, because it is a zombie--not a witch.]

  • in Serious Sam 2 there was a level where you actually had witches flying around on their brooms and you can blast them with any gun you had. So this isn't exactly the only time it was done.

  • Great video.

Very informative! It's interesting to learn about these old videogame technologies.

  • Very cool looking game. Thanks for putting it up!

  • OMG Now I want one of these!

  • Oh cool. I remember playings this as a very, very young kid in the mid-70's.

    Thanks for some nostalgia!! =)

  • I played this as a kid!

  • Watch it buster! This is actually kinda cool thx for sharing

  • This is bad ass. Seriously, I would love cab like this.

  • Wow, what fun!

    Thanks for the video.

  • damn that is old :/

  • Ya, but not as old as me ;-)

  • Thank you so much for the great video! That was really amazing. You did a beautiful job on the restoration and the video! Thanks!

  • too cool! but some say that HH's gallery isn't that great among all the others gun games.

  • Very detailed video! Thankyou

  • Your videos are always excellent and your resorations superb! I've always admired Haunted House and was thrilled to see your video!
