What surprised me is these circumcisions are done when the girls are already big as it teenagers. We malays in asia do it when they were just a few months old babies, and they didn't even feel a thing as in they would be sleeping. And its not the whole of the female genitalia. Female circumcision is life threatening and 100x more dangerous because it is UNsanitary for women to be sewn up;us men get circumcised FOR sanitary reasons. The foreskin traps bacteria. It is such a severe danger to their health to the point that it is a health risk because it does not allow the body to function the way it needs to (i.e. having periods, urinating, ovulating, etc).
Real muslims doesnt do that, if it was written in the quran it would be another thing but it is not written about such things, so dont blame muslims for it, this is a traditional horrible thing, not a muslim thing.

What surprised me is these circumcisions are done when the girls are already big as it teenagers. We malays in asia do it when they were just a few months old babies, and they didn't even feel a thing as in they would be sleeping. And its not the whole of the female genitalia. Just the skin on the clitoris. The thing about these western "intervention" media is, its based on the western value or beliefs. Explore circumcision in a wider context. In our culture its not as torturous as this.

Fellow men, if you have your opinions about circumcision then fine. However, at least get the facts straight. Female circumcision is life threatening and 100x more dangerous because it is UNsanitary for women to be sewn up;us men get circumcised FOR sanitary reasons. The foreskin traps bacteria. It is such a severe danger to their health to the point that it is a health risk because it does not allow the body to function the way it needs to (i.e. having periods, urinating, ovulating, etc).

Secondly, if you do a simple search about FGM you'll see that it is primarily an African practice (northern and central), taking place in 28 countries. That I was saying that it was an African practice does not imply that it is inherent to African culture--I was saying that where it does take place, that is mainly in Africa.

I am a happily married Muslim man and I can assure that nowhere in any Islamic book or verse things as such are written or said to be done. I am pretty sure that such things do not happen in my country or in most Muslim countries - not even in the male-dominated Arab world. If such things happen in some parts of Africa or somewhere else, it must be due to some ill explanation by someone with some particular aim in mind. This must be something embedded to a particular culture - nothing more
