Dear god..she's trying to sing in a different register and she's still TERRIBLE. Jesus...she's just trying to skip the notes she can't hit. I had no idea...thank god I never bought her albums...she's a fraud.

It's interesting, it sounds like her top notes are being sung in "head voice" (kind of a female near-falsetto), as if those notes are beyond her normal range. It would be nice if she could give more breath support under those top notes, they might be a little more rich like the lower notes. I don't know if they fixed or fattened up those top notes in studio, but for sure it's less breathy on the studio version. I guess that's live vs studio, always a little different.

As I can hear from Katy Perry, she can reach notes that a "normal person" can't reach. Great, but she needs, I agree, to learn to control her breath and to tune herself. Believe me, as I can hear on the recorded song, she doesn't use too much auto-tune (there's auto-tune, but nowadays studios use that because they don't want to spend a lot of days trying to make the singer reach some impossible notes), but she sings. I think, in the studio, she repeats a lot. I work with audio and studio mixing

Loved the "COUNTRY VERSION". Acctually, I understood this version as a country version... but it is great, and totally live, no playback, no auto-tune... SHE CAN SING! And she has talent enough to be in the top as she is!

She is in tune. She sings in an emotionally open and playful way. She doesn't always sing her songs in the same way. She takes risks and is very musical. To have to get up and sing live versions (well) of overproduced studio songs is nothing less than kick ass.
