  • Colecovision always had the better graphics over the Atari 5200. I shudder to think what this game would've looked like if Atari created it. Atari had the game library but their graphics always fell short.

  • man, you really are an ace!

  • i never get past second level

  • I remember seeing this game at Show Biz Pizza as a little kid and being astonished at the graphics.

  • Give it wide birth... Wow Zaxxon is the ultimate robot? Pretty sad.

  • I love this game! i used to spend HOURS playing this game and it was HARD!

  • I have this for atari 2600 but the coleovision ver. Looks way better

  • God how I loved this arcade game. I was the KING and no one could beat me!!

  • so is zaxxon like gygas?

  • I now own Zaxxon on Virtual Console Arcade, and I wouldn't have beat it without this. Thanks!

The Colecovision version is the closest match to the arcade, Awesome. I like those two versions better than the Atari 2600, and Sega Master System Ports.

  • It's so realistic!

  • Are there more levels? I used to think that thing at the end was Zaxxon (maybe it is), and it would scare the hell out of me every time. I beat him once, shut if off and never played again. I'm sure I'm in the minority here, but I really don't miss these old games (mostly because I suck at them). I hate being challenged. That's why I play Halo.

  • wow very old

  • A little off topic maybe, but this has been bugging me for years! Wasnt this the game that Corey Feldman was briefly playing in Friday The 13th:The "Final" Chapter?

  • IDK, but the fake Ferris chick was playing Karate Champ when Rooney attempted to apprehend "him".

  • So cool. I never could beat this game though. And, I don't see that this vido shows me how. I think I have my old Coleco around somewhere. I am going to get it out.

  • this game rocked.....wow

  • my childhood

  • watch out for Zaxxon the ultimate Robot! lol!

  • This was THE game to play way back in the day and I'm rather surprised it never had it's own Saturday morning cartoon back when Pac-Man and Donkey Kong did.

I wonder if Hollyweird will turn this into a big screen movie, Asteriods the Movie is coming soon! Maybe Joust too! LOL

  • I spent hours playing this game as a child, i am going to buy one on ebay.

  • This game was quite technologically advanced for its time. And it looks fun too!

  • i have the game on commodore 64 it looks like same

  • If you have ever played this game on Coleco Vision you know that this guy knows what he is talking about I tell you! Great information and great to see video of a long forgotten 80's classic. Thanks poster!

  • Looks like an older version of starfox or something.

  • Woah. The home version sucks compared to arcade. Nice infomartional video though!

  • @renatadevin

Back then this was state of the art compared to the Atari 2600.

  • Thanks for posting this!

  • i remember seeing this in an arcade and thought it had the greatest graphics ever.*LOL*

    Those were the days

  • i just saw a home improvement episode were this one kid was getting mad cause randy was beating his highscore on this game

  • "Which takes some getting used to,, let me tell you"

    funny

  • Nobody could beat me at this arcade game when I was a kid. I mean NOBODY! What a classic realistic 3-D game!

  • i bet i coulda beat you zaxxon was my game brah

  • does anyone know how i can get a working colecovision system? have some many games i want to play and coleco's website when i last checked wasnt helpful. no one sells them often on ebay that guarantee to work

  • great game

  • I have this version and the MSX version playing on my GBA.

  • Wow that brings back memories, Zaxxon was an amazing game back in the early 80's. The ColecoVision was so underated coz of the huge sales of the Atari 2600, but it still sold well and had some great games.

  • WOW! That was a blast from the past. The sound!! The sound!! LOL. I don't know how people can play computer games for so long - this game used to make me feel ill after playing it for too long! Maybe it was just too frustrating. Did this game have an end? Actually I've always wanted to know if Q*Bert or H.E.R.O. had an end too. They seemed to go on forever.

  • Oh God QBert another blast from the past.

Oh man we would play for hours on end. Your hand would like some twisted monster claw from holding that Joy stick *LOL*

Today I can't even look at those games my nephews play *LOL*

  • I remember my brother got up to some CRAZY level of Q*Bert - everything was black - you couldn't see the pyramid or the steps - and I *THINK* - this was 23 years ago - that you had to change the step colour twice - from black to black!! :D We were freaking out when he got to that level. There was no 'save game' in those days. You had three lives and that was IT!! :D

  • @JTPolo101 QBert ? uuuh wrong game, pal.

  • GET BACK TO BUSINESS AT HAND!

  • Great system... too bad it never got the market share of the wimpy 2600.

  • This was one of my favorites. The Coleco Adam computer version had six different asteroids and eight skill levels.

  • wow this was my favorite video game when i was little. that, and dig dug.

  • To defeat Zaxxon himself as a whole, shoot his missile before he releases it at you.

  • Thanks! I'll try that. I've played the game so many times, yet after a quarter century I still have yet to defeat him. He just kept going away from me. A friend of mine managed it on the first try. Lucky scuzz. I could never figure out how he did it. He didn't know either.

  • Colecovisions graphics were awesome in the 80's and they would still be very solid even when put up against Xbox 360 or playstation 3 today.

  • So would the C64's

  • "this game is the most detailed video game every created"

  • I can't get through the force wall on the 2nd level...

  • The strategy is to fire a few shots at that wall. If they go through the force field, it's safe to pass.

  • Oh ok thanks 4 letting me know. So how are you ClassicTVFan82? :)

  • I am just fine.

  • That's good. :)

  • I believe he was on level 2.

  • Wow that looks kinda fun.

  • I had the intellivision version back in the 80's and boy did that game suck.

  • i wonder how many quarters i spent on this game.

  • Best conversion that I know of (and I've seen many). Man, I spent alot of time playing that friggin' game!

  • this game was hard a hell on the arcade

  • Agreed. It was better just to watch a good player play it...

  • I think it's quite easy, actually (on Colecovision). It takes practice, though.

  • it takes some getting used to - LET ME TELL YOU!

  • I thank you beyond words for this. I've been stuck at the first level of Xazzon for the last 23 years.

  • Hardest scroller. It made me neruotic. I have an emulator version of this and it depresses me evertime I play it! So hard to judge how high you are!

  • the coleco doing this was excellent. Its a good effort. I wonder if its better than the Atari 800 version that was good too.

    Maybe the best conversion ?!

  • I think the ColecoVision was the best ever done for it from what I know (the Atari 2600 edition was crap).

  • To get Zaxxon you need to aim at it's guided missile before it get launched.

  • Obvious drawback was the ColecoVision's lack of rendering the side-scrolling games perfectly, so you have to get used to the constant stiffness of the backgrounds.

  • Graphicly stunning is right! that was awesome!

  • Zax kicked so much ass. Period.
