Just my thoughts...stumbled on your post. Btw I'm straight. I believe God places burdens on EVERYONE. Homosexuality, alcoholism or addictive natures etc etc. As a society we turn our nose up at these things as being evil or wrong but we all have our own burdens to deal with and handle in this life. Homosexual tendencies are a complicated burden and most gays turn to this life and embrace it. More open minded ones see it for what it really is.
Not all Christians disapprove of homosexuality. There is such a small section about homosexuality in the Bible and none of it was said by Jesus. Gay Christians realize the faults in the Bible and follow the overall message, which is love everyone.

I always hate the perception that Christians hate gays. I understand why people think that; that's certainly where a lot of gay-hate comes from. but I can tell you, I love my God, and I believe that if anyone tries to deny who they are, gay or straight or whatever, is an insult to God. I would call myself a day Christian... I have talk to the school chaplain a lot about this and concluded that god is the vthe of love. I used to struggle with it but now realise that if/when god wants me to change he will let me know.. but he loves me the same no matter what and he would rather me be happy and gay than miserable and repressed... Repentance means to turn to God. Repentance DOES NOT mean to change behavior or else God will send you to Hell. A) yes i agree the way he was dealing was wrong...as in pretending/saying noone wants to be gay. B) Christianity at its core is supposed to reflect love and equality. the modern church does not always get that...but the bottom line is God loves us as we are. Homosexuality is something we cant change and shouldnt be expected to.
You can be gay and Christian, go to church, etc. In fact, in the U.S. there are many churches that advertise that they are accepting of gays. I guess your main problem was his hypocrisy and I agree. He shouldn't have to hide who he is, and if his church doesn't accept him for being gay, then he needs to find a new church.

Sorry for the double post. I'll make a video Response to this later. I hear this soo much, that Gay Christians don't exist, but that is in fact a huge falacy. Last time I checked, I'm still living, so there's one example. There's an entire online organization for Gay Christians called GCN.org you can look up for more info. I'll link it in my video as well.
I started out Christian, then through self-discovery and a lot of Sexual Fluidity, I came to terms with being Bisexual (I tend to lean more towards girls). I'm not gonna say it was easy meshing the two, and even now it's tough sometimes bacuse my church isn't affirming. Pretty much, they way I see it, I agree with what the bible says, but I'm not gonna deny myself the love I feel for anyone. I still love God, always will, I can't just renounce my beliefs because of ignorant neysayers.

i'm gay, and i used to be a very devout christian, and i don't have a problem with Jesus or anything, but the Christians, especially the ones who i used to admire and look up to, turned their backs on me and really hurt me. i couldn't follow a dogma that encourages that kind of hurt.

But I have never believed that EVERYTHING in the bible is always true. The same passages people think are anti-gay also say that if you wear blended clothing you should be burned. I'm a gay Christian and basically I don't see the two aspects of my life as clashing at all. My Christianity comes before my sexuality, as it is with most Christians whether they're gay or straight. While some Christians misinterpret scripture to legitamize their homophobia, I know that God loves me and cares for me, so I return the love by worshipping him.

I used to be a Christian until I found out the truth about them. I am spiritual and I do believe in a God, but I don't believe in what man has made of god. I define my belief as a Spiritualist Anti-Church Christian if that makes sense. OK - I ran out of room. Anyway - so if people would read what the bible says concerning homosexuality, it's not in the context of people in a loving, committed relationship. Ok, I have not read the other comments, nor do I feel any inclination to since they're probably all hateful and stuff. But whatever, here's my take on this.
As a queer Christian, I think it is not only completely ok with God if you are gay, but I think He would be saddened if you tried to deny that part of you. God made you EXACTLY the way He wanted you to be; being queer is not something you choose, it's something you are born with.
People try desperately to justify their iniquities by "nitpicking" & "twisting" the words of God, in order to continue living in bondage. In 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 addresses this issue. God loves everyone that he gave his only son to die on the cross so that we may be saved by his grace & not by our actions. But people forget that God sees sin as all the same. The Bible says that God loves us enough to let us choose the way we want to live our lives and I thank him for that. However, it doesn't mean he agrees with how we choose to do so, especially if it is against what he established. I think the argument goes (Im not gay, nor am I christian) if god is all knowing, and he created you, he knew you were going to be gay, and if got is all loving, he loves you the way he made you. Just my thoughts...stumbled on your post. Btw I'm straight. I believe God places burdens on EVERYONE. Homosexuality, alcoholism or addictive natures etc etc. As a society we turn our nose up at these things as being evil or wrong but we all have our own burdens to deal with and handle in this life. Homosexual tendencies are a complicated burden and most gays turn to this life and embrace it. More open minded ones see it for what it really is.

I always hate the perception that Christians hate gays. I understand why people think that; that's certainly where a lot of gay-hate comes from. but I can tell you, I love my God, and I believe that if anyone tries to deny who they are, gay or straight or whatever, is an insult to God. Further, I think that, by this point, there is enough evidence to say that sexuality is not a choice. It's just a small part of how God made us. And we need to rejoice in that. I would call myself a day Christian... I have talk to the school chaplain a lot about this and concluded that god is the vthe of love. I used to struggle with it but now realise that if/when god wants me to change he will let me know.. but he loves me the same no matter what and he would rather me be happy and gay than miserable and repressed... I also know there are many verses in the bible that we do not follow so chose to live a good life rather than by the bible :)

In the Bible, who did Jesus condemn? Sinners? No. He condemned the self-righteous fundamentalists of the times and people who use God to make a profit or condemn others. Repentance means to turn to God. Repentance DOES NOT mean to change behavior or else God will send you to Hell. The judgemental fundamentalists and moralists of any era throughout history are the ones who practive heresy. There is no Amazing Grace in legalistic fundamentalism.

A) yes i agree the way he was dealing was wrong...as in pretending/saying noone wants to be gay. B) Christianity at its core is supposed to reflect love and equality. the modern church does not always get that...but the bottom line is God loves us as we are. Homosexuality is something we cant change and shouldnt be expected to.

You can be gay and Christian, go to church, etc. In fact, in the U.S. there are many churches that advertise that they are accepting of gays. I guess your main problem was his hypocrisy and I agree. He shouldn't have to hide who he is, and if his church doesn't accept him for being gay, then he needs to find a new church.
I'm not gay myself-I just hate the way gays are treated and how these 'Christians' act. The same ones condemning gays are adulterers, liars, greedy, etc.-those are real sins!

Sorry for the double post. I'll make a video Response to this later. I hear this soo much, that Gay Christians don't exist, but that is in fact a huge falacy. Last time I checked, I'm still living, so there's one example. There's an entire online organization for Gay Christians called GCN.org you can look up for more info. I'll link it in my video as well.

I started out Christian, then through self-discovery and a lot of Sexual Fluidity, I came to terms with being Bisexual (I tend to lean more towards girls). I'm not gonna say it was easy meshing the two, and even now it's tough sometimes bacuse my church isn't affirming. Pretty much, they way I see it, I agree with what the bible says, but I'm not gonna deny myself the love I feel for anyone. I still love God, always will, I can't just renounce my beliefs because of ignorant neysayers.

I'm a gay & have a strong faith in God, I don't subscribe to religious doctorine because 99% of it is a misinterpretation by man. Christ never condemned gays & the word homosexual never appeared in a bible until some of the later translations. Personally, I'm a Lesbian, and I dont believe the bible truly says that being gay is a sin. I believe that the bible has a bunch of suggestions from different people on how to live your life. But I have never believed that EVERYTHING in the bible is always true. The same passages people think are anti-gay also say that if you wear blended clothing you should be burned. Alot of the old testament was written for back then but no longer apply. Besides many corrupt gov. of the past had rewritten it.

I'm a gay Christian and basically I don't see the two aspects of my life as clashing at all. My Christianity comes before my sexuality, as it is with most Christians whether they're gay or straight. While some Christians misinterpret scripture to legitamize their homophobia, I know that God loves me and cares for me, so I return the love by worshipping him.

It relates to sexual abuse, enslavement and prostitution. I'm gay - my pastor and his wife know - and I'm part of the praise team at church - it's a non-issue. This is where people confuse the hatred of people for the hatred of Christianity. God is beautiful and amazing and awesome. It's the people who screw it all up.

@lzlus I don't think being gay is a "curse." You're right, God created women and men to procreate, but that doesn't mean it's wrong to be different. Like, God also created ears to hear, but that doesn't mean that it's a sin to be deaf. There's nothing wrong with deaf people, they just have a more difficult life than the rest of us. That's how I see being gay. It may not be how it was originally "supposed" to be, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with it.

Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire.

Ok, I have not read the other comments, nor do I feel any inclination to since they're probably all hateful and stuff. But whatever, here's my take on this.
As a queer Christian, I think it is not only completely ok with God if you are gay, but I think He would be saddened if you tried to deny that part of you. God made you EXACTLY the way He wanted you to be; being queer is not something you choose, it's something you are born with.

People try desperately to justify their iniquities by "nitpicking" & "twisting" the words of God, in order to continue living in bondage. In 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 addresses this issue. God loves everyone that he gave his only son to die on the cross so that we may be saved by his grace & not by our actions. But people forget that God sees sin as all the same. You're mocking your heavenly father by saying, "I'm gay and yet a Christian". No, you're practicing satanism in the house of the Lord.

I've been a christian all my life, but just last night I actually read about "punishment for sins" and that flipped everything. I was always taught that god was loving and excepting, and you could be forgivin,all that. Yet in this holy book it says that Gays should be killed, Audultrers should be killed,basically if you commit a sexual sin... you should be stoned.WTF!?
I always thought that you should except EVERYBODY and let god judge, and send them to hell or what ever.Now I'm just confused.

I'm sorry, but no. PEOPLE condemn, confuse, and hate. The Bible is the word of God, but people seem to forget it was written by men influenced by their time and culture. God loved us so much he sent His son to DIE for us, so I don't think he would order us killed if we wear polyester (which is also in the Bible). People need to look beyond the literal and see the true meaning of the Word: "Love one another as I have loved you." God made us the way He wanted us to be, gay and all.

@TabloidJunk Your friend wants to be accepted in his church; therefore, he lies about his orientation. He can only be "real" when those he worships with aren't around. He says he can separate his life into "church" and "the rest". The reality is, he can't. God knows his heart; his "true nature".
In my first post, I explained the act of homosexuality (NOT homosexuals) is an abomination to God. Your friend has to choose which belief system he wants to ascribe to; he can't have it both ways.

"Religion" is an institution devised by man. As man is imperfect, so are the things he "creates".
God operates in the realm of perfect love and judgement, at a level beyond the scope of understanding by man.
God has His laws which were set up to protect His children (ALL of mankind.) However, He also gave mankind Free Will. Disobedience to those laws will ALWAYS have consequences, in this life and the next.

@TabloidJunk while considering how the bible is a combination of legislative decisions that early Christians realized no longer applied to them as christ had superseded Jewish law and revelation it can often seem contradictory. Really the most important part of the bible for a christian is the new testament and of those books the Gospels as the others are mostly letters written by Paul who was very fallible. Really look to the sermon on the mount for Christianity's heart

@123Shelbi - Hey, how are you. I must admit that there are some verse in the Bible that at first glance can seem little confusing. But as w/ any book if you read a paragraph, a chapter or two, or just the summary, one can never true get the entire concept. I dont have the time or space to explain it all, however, homosexuality was not the only sin punishable by death. ALL sins were. Based on what Jesus did for the world, we now have the means of having our sins atoned.

God & Gays on the org "The Rainbow Kingdom" "Christianity and Homosexuality Reconciled" (online book) Those passages of scriptures are not generalized to refer to anyone's sexual orientation, if you research more the Hebrew and Aramaic language did not use Heterosexual nor Homosexual. The anti gay passages, and The Levitical Law leave too many gaping holes for modern day christians.

@123Shelbi The scriptures those punishments refer to are all in the Old Testament, when there was a real concern the nation of Israel would be "contaminated" by egregious sinful behavior. The punishments had to be severe as a means of example.
All sin was forgiven by God through Christ's Crucifixion. Punishment for disobedience shifted to Divine Judgement: if one didn't accept Christ as one's Savior, sins wouldn't be forgiven and each would experience the full measure of God's judgement.

@123Shelbi Many Jewish Rabbis have a theory. The old testament and it's laws are like a precious gem, which, as it is turned by time, is illuminated by the light of God at in a different way. That's why we don't, for example, stone adulterers anymore. Also, look carefully for anytime that Jesus himself, the founder of Christianity, condemned Gay people. He didn't. He spoke of love, acceptance, and forgiveness, and as Christians, that's what we should do too.

i hate when people try and find validity for there terrible behavior in the bible. its disgusting! you can not be an openly gay person and then say your christian. the 2 just dont mix. but you can be a person who is struggling with homosexuality while still having faith in GOD. homosexuality for one thing is not natural or biological. and every test that they have did has came back inconclusive. so the "gay christian"has no moral ground to stand on to promote there view. just except the truth!

The Bible says that God loves us enough to let us choose the way we want to live our lives and I thank him for that. However, it doesn't mean he agrees with how we choose to do so, especially if it is against what he established. As for homosexuality, I believe he loves the human with all his heart but does not agree with the homosexual lifestyle. Christianity is a Lifestyle led, not by principles, but by spirit and it's impossible to for a human to try to live with 2 spiritual lifestyles.

There are people who are against, Homosexuality, but here in England, there are people against Women Priests / Bsihops, so Christianity isn't as clear cut.....
I PERSONALLY believe God created all of us how we are, the Biblical verses, are written in the past, and should allow for that, - the Bible is a translation, and therefore someone elses interpretation, so it's shouldn't be taken word for word, and God and Jesus tell me to love others and don't be nit picky about the bible.....

@msussams because you dont understand how we are you will except anything. only GOD know the nature of male and female and he has explained it in both the bible and quran. and he has made homosexuality a sin in both. so to say that people are born that way is wrong. why does it seem that we have a choice to do everything else but when it comes to being gay,it automatically becomes the way you were born? its just nasty people trying to justify there lifestyle.

I'm a lesbian and a christian. ^^ There are christians out there called liberal christians (in england at least). God made me who I am and I'm proud. I'm open about it in church and no one's had any issues with it. Hope that helps.

There is no choice, I've tried dating men and I hated it. Every moment of it. It felt so wrong. I am proud of what God made me so I shouldn't be ashamed.

I think the argument goes (Im not gay, nor am I christian) if god is all knowing, and he created you, he knew you were going to be gay, and if got is all loving, he loves you the way he made you. You then have to make the argument that the establishment isnt really following the tennants of God himself, but then you end up with a sort of psuedo christianity, not one that is institutionalised.

That guy you dated sounds like a closet gay, not a gay Christian. I am an openly gay Christian, there are gay churches too. The Bible said for a man not to lie with another man, but it also said that people should be killed if the have sex with virgins etc. So, we have to understand it was written a long time ago and addapt it to modern life; therefore, nowadays we know being gay is fine, so is having sex with a virgin, so common sense will tell you it's fine to be gay and love God

I live in a religious progressive city. I know a lot of gay Christians but they're openly gay at church and at home. We have a lot of churches here called "The United Church" and I think it's non denominational. Everyone is welcome to come or go as they please from it and they also marry gay couples. This guy you're talking about lives two lives... You would only be allowed to be a part of one of them. I feel sad for him.

Since all religions are practiced by humans with human weaknesses, religion gets tied up in all the mess of being human. Religion is used to hurt people. Religion is used to alienate people. I am a Christian, and I do not believe homosexuality is evil. Not every Christian denominaton is agains Gays. I am Gay and Christian the one verse that actualy talks about male on male sex whentaken into historical context isnt actualytalking about gays its talking about male prostotution. It is true that alot of christian denominations interprit these sections literly and are there by "anti-gay" but not all are like that. I grew up Chistian-United and that church infact promots and accepts gay marraige. however his opinion on it was kinda fucked up =)

@annie1980 to members of the same sex, that have also chosen to believe the Truth of the Gospel. This is an inner struggle. One that can only be overcome by the power of our Lord Jesus Christ. The Spirit is willing, but the body is weak. I can only imagine the inner turmoil that your date must go through on a daily basis. Men and woman that consider themselves Gay Christians deep down NEVER have abiding peace about the matter. There is hope in Jesus. Hope this makes some sense. Good day :)
