This is rubbish, Its a hole in the ground covered with a sheet of wood and sand spread back over it. The rope is hollow which a solid stick can be passed through so teh rope goes up withteh stick in side then the sitck is taken out and the rope falls. You can see the guys hiding the hole with the beach wind breakers. Crap. Don't care how old this trick is, its totally rubbish.

I'm pretty sure they are utilizing the same kind of technology inside the rope that is used in a metallic roll-up tape measure. Obviously it's not precisely the same as in traditional tape measures, it's made of a stronger and wider material than that, but the basic principle is the same. It can hold a small child when climbed from a certain angle. It could be fairly easily replicated in a smaller scale to prove the concept.

1. The rope dusts off at 1:19.

2. The rope rises step by step.

3. At 4:11 the guy pulls the rope out and it gives, suddenly comming out with a jerk.

4. They have the area covered , much larger than the basket, while they fix it.

So the I guess they put in some substance by manual pumping, realease the valve and then pull it off. No hole in the bottom, doesnt have to be - can be a pororus surface and a hinge.
