  • This is still one of the best reality show performances I've seen. Ever.

  • Gave me goosebumps around 1:20. Holy!

  • epic!!!! almost

  • whats the song in the beginning

  • 1:23... dude was like: damn how am I gonna top that

  • I still can't believe they passed up on Ryan and Magni.. and choose 'what ever you call him with the squeeky voice'... he wasn;t even in the same sport, never mind the same league.

  • brilliant, applausses to that

  • here

    youtube.com/watch?v=flvNDb2vtE8

  • Losing my religion by polish got talent Kacper Sikora the best cover ever

  • @robsson231980 Listened to it and I surely have to disagree.

  • @robsson231980 Nope, he's just copying Ryan Stars arrangement and he doesn't come close to Ryans performance.

  • i love this song <3

  • one of the best covers ever

  • This was one of the highlights of the show. If those guys got together and left the judges to their ego's *(and kept theirs in check) They could be making some serious Euro's. Just think, it wouldn't even be hard on them, cause their show would have so many headliners that they could rotate breaks, not wear out and since they are all about the same age, wouldn't have to attend Tommy Lee's funeral.

  • 1:15 <3

  • damn this version and kacper sikora version are best !

  • one of my all time favourite songs and this performance killed me when i was watching rockstar supernova...........still love it now AMAZING

  • watch this every 6 months to remind me what a performance should sound like

  • I watch this every couple of months when I need a pick me up . Ryan ....... He absolutely f. nails it.

  • Toby : When is the next flight back to Australia

  • IMPECABLE,LA VERSION MAS EXTRAORDINARIA,INCREIBLE

  • This wed. I get to speak personally with a NBC producer, no joke...She is coming to my college and talking to my theatre class.....What questions should i ask her?!?!?!

  • hahaha ok, this one is good too but it's your opinion :)

  • nice!

  • R.E.M. sorry, best of the best version...

  • @Screamo1H I agree with you. Normally I prefer the originals over the covers, even if the cover is really good. But this one beats the crap out of REM's version. As good as the original is.

  • @PabloMGP The original is betterrrr

  • @frannnjeje Oh I love the original but I think this one is better. I would just like it if he made a full version of it.

  • speechless

  • AMAZING. Gives me goosebumps EVERYTIME I hear it. I've been a fan since day 1.

  • What the fuck happened to this show? It beat the shit out of Idol and all that junk. Why didn't they bring it back? I would rather listen and watch this time and time again then anything like Idol...

    BRING IT BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 240p is so bad... if it weren't for the beautiful voice singing the song, I'd give it a thumbs down.

  • this still blows me away. he's fantastic.

  • I just watched Dia Frampton's cover of this song, and I just had to watch Ryan's cover of this song again. Dia's was good, but Ryan's cover just blew me away (again). This is the best cover of this song I have ever heard, so much more superior than the other covers of the same song.

  • best song of the show no doubt

  • hes so good i cant handle it

  • that was the best performance for this song ever made

  • that's the only song he did on there that i really loved.

  • @pqgmama

not even in the air tonight?....how about enjoy the silence he tore that cover up!

  • @achangedman5 okay, had to relisten to give it a fair shot. in the air tonight started out really well, but enjoy the silence was pretty good. maybe i just didn't give him as much credit since i already had my favorites. thanks!

  • Ryan Star should have won. I always thought that Lukas Rossi was too creepy for me to ever like a band that he is in.

  • what a minute ryan star was in a singing competition like american idol? i never knew that and even know about this show lol

  • @Shadydan05

man not only did you miss out on this season but the first season was a good one too...

  • @achangedman5 thanks do you know if they are gonna make a new season?

  • @Shadydan05

Man I begged, I pleaded, I sent notes and I even called the cable company that was doing this show, i believe it was CBS....their response to me was that it wasn't that great of a popular show the second season, and they were having trouble finding a band suitable for the show...i am upset because if you go through all the songs available for rockstar inxs and rockstar supernova....the house band is F*ing awesome...

  • @achangedman5 thanks man oh well maybe theres a new show i like american idol but without simon it's nothing without him... and plus we need a show like rockstar supernova

  • Comment removed

  • video quality is shite, but who cares, the vocals are just awesome.

  • Dude, I wish he had sang the entire thing. EPIC.

  • I'll never forget this. I've been a Ryan Star fan ever since. <3

  • @morethanjustokay33

What happened to it was that Ryan was better than anyone on that show yet they voted him off. A little while later he had a hit single no thanks to anyone in "supernova". I'm honestly glad he didn't win. What have you heard on the radio from "supernova" lately?

  • Wow! This guy is amazing, puts EVERYONE on American Idol TO SHAME!

  • @nikarro I cant thumb up your comment enough times. Took the words from my lips.

  • They did Ryan a favor of kicking him off.

  • Tommy Lee got rid of him because he was better looking than him.

  • I never watched Rockstar Supernova in my country, but after watching so many videos of this guy Ryan, or people like Dilana, Storm Large, Jordis Unga and Magni...why did Lukas Rossi win?? Can somebody tell me??

  • there is only one thing that is wrong with this...he doesn't sing the entire song..loved him from the start when I watched this show! <3

  • This entire video is one long Holy Shit-moment. He plays and sings the absolute hell out of that song :D

  • and rossi won? they obviously had it out for the band before it started

  • This song is the reason I bought a piano. Remember watching this when it first aired yearss ago. Fucking amazing

  • @somecrazygreek Wait what? Did you buy it because of the performance or the song?

  • wow!

     <3

  • this ver is much clearer: v=gUNdEtOFMMY

  • This is brilliant. Does anyone have, or know where I can procure a piano-only (instrumental, for backing track purposes) version?

  • way better than the original

  • this performance made me want to become a musician

i was 12 and just yeah

  • i rem thinking how great this performance was when watching the series like 4yrs ago doode....shyt was EPIC...i was still rooting for magni cuz c'mon...those dolphin cry and teen spirit joints were AWESOME...but this is prolly the best cover of losing my religion i have ever heard...propz

  • This performance still stands out in my mind...even 4 years later. Simply amazing!

  • I watched this when it happened and went looking for it tonight. It still is epic in my mind.

  • wow this is amazing. its just as good(if not better) than all of the top artists today, and that's when they've been auto-tuned!

  • This performance was easily the best of all of them. Ryan Starr was easily the best musician, too bad they were looking for an idiot front man.

  • Ryan star totaly ruined the original for me.. epic performance

  • THE BEST FUCKING COVER OF THIS SONGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!! GOSH ♥

  • he kills it! bravo

  • So did he get laid or what, as predicted by Tommy Lee?

  • Simply perfect...wish there was a full version of it :(

  • simply no but i love the other performences of him and trully i like his voice

  • This is one of those performances you dream about. He should really have won, but it might have slowed him and toby down with the talent they have.

  • i heard ryan star's version 1st before the orignal.. nd the orignal sucked soo bad!!! ryan star made this song sooo awsum!!!!!!!

  • @yukbumer0 how's it possible that you didn't hear the original before this one???????? SERIOUSLY?

  • WaAAAAAYYYYY to good for that show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are regretting!!!!

  • hey guys! this performance is the exact reason of why he DIDN'T win the show.... he was too fuckin good for it...

  • hey somebody! can u tell me what's the meaning of this song? i mean i can translate the lines, but as im not original english, i dont really get it. is it really abput the religion or is it about somebody he loves?

  • Goddamnit I miss this show.

  • you have just rock me out!

    thx

  • BTW this performance is so much getting you LAID DUDE ! @ Tommy Lee

    Roflmao !

  • And this guy did NOT Win this show after this ?

  • @AlexMysterium people have no fucking taste, thats why.

  • better then REM'S version!!!!!!!!!

    THUMBS UP!

  • The look at Toby's face at 1:23 is classic...

A full version would be awesome.

  • @emilgat9 He saw a fly creeping around on the paino =) But in all seriousness, it adds to the effect just before he turns the song up, I think it fits in there just fine.

  • He really should make a full-length version of this song

  • ok this might be a dumb question...but why did he hit the paino at 0:33?

  • @emilgat9

    It sounded good?

  • @IceCreeaamV3 oh, i thought maybe it was part of the song or something, but i couldn't figure out where he got it from the song...i suppose you're right, lol

  • i hated this song but i just heard this and he made it better than the other version

  • the dude at 1:23 is like "well, looks like it's back to work at the jiffy lube for me."

  • @drutimann or maybe he was just appreciating what Ryan had done as a fellow musician he appreciates quality and a good performance. I read this comment until I saw you were talking about Toby. Toby should of won this hands down, why he didn't I am not sure, but Americans probably are too patriotic and arrogant to let an Australian be there to be honest lol.

  • @Youhavetoloveirony Except Lukas is Canadian, not American...

  • @drutimann You know I just spent like five minutes watching that part and laughing every single freaking time I saw his face? It's freaking hilarious.

  • he has a superstar's voice.

  • You know everyone keeps saying he should have won. And while it's true him being kicked may have been a blessing in disguise. After all that way we became aware of him but then he got to go on and do his own solo work that fits him instead of forcing himself into the bands style. That way now we are aware of a great singer and he gets to provide us with music more suited to his own strengths!

  • Great voice but rape of the song, way to much improvising...

  • @sproetenqueen he tried to make the song in his way. its even more impressive for me that he made this change and to make it better than the original

  • I remember watching this season of Rockstar--wish they would bring this show back (there's GOTTA be a band missing a lead singer!) I really liked Ryan on this show and I was bummed he left too soon. I'm happy good things are happening for him now!

  • yep guns and roses needs a new singer.. everyone else has been replaced lol.

  • is this version availible on Itunes????

  • @MissAntoinette1000 I don't think so...they unfortunately didn't do studio versions of the songs after they performed. As for live, you can try Capturing the audio. Try finding sumthing on Google or sumthing. Hope that helps.

I used Free YouTube to MP3 converter but I now use Roxio which you have to buy for about $30.

  • This was just amazing, absolutely loved it. Gave me goosebumps x

  • AWESOME!

  • love seeing all the other rockstar faces they are just like "Oh shit we are so fucked now" except somehow lucas rossi won..

  • On second thought, he doesn't need that bunch of burnouts. 11:59 IS amazing and worth waiting for.

  • Ryan shoulda' won. Period.

  • 11:59 is amazing!! equivalent to this!

  • i hate song covers because half the time they suck... im afraid...this one...was BRILLIANT!!

  • Get over yourself "Christisms"...just a song and he did a bloody good job of it.

  • @mckzepplin read the full comment asshole

  • Amazing voice, tone, emotion... he really connected with the song.

  • i love this version so much! better than the original!

looking forward to his release show on 8/3 in NYC!! gonna be epic.

  • I think this was the best performance on the entire show!

  • EPIC!

  • I honestly was not a fan of Ryan during the competition. However looking back, at this song at least, he wasn't as bad as I remember. This version is pretty damn good,

  • Loved the REM version but Ryan is singing it from his gut! Sounds so much more emotional!

  • ryan star..loved it then and now and love the new album due out aug 2010 kudos

    JUST BREATHE

  • i swear this song gives me chills everytime i listen to it! <3

  • the best version EVER!!!

  • this is a winner!!!

  • What an amazing VOICE!!!!

  • incredible..

  • This is an amazing performance. And what's even more amazing is how Ryan has evolved since then. I have his EP from last year, "Last Train Home," and every song is inspiring, catchy and filled with great vocals. And finally, his full album "11:59" is coming out on August 3rd!! I can't wait. I've seen him live 8 or 9 times in the past year lol.

  • I find it kind of funny that Jason would go along with this. I kind of lost a little respect for him when I saw that he joined a "Super Group".

  • So glad he didn't win, Rockstar supernova sucked ass. As does any band with Tommy Lee.

  • @ataristick rockstar was a great show, blows anythging american idol ever did, these singers make those pansies at idol look like punk ass amateurs, as far as tommy lee goes, he's a idiot but motley crue was a trailblazing band, obviously your a young punk without a clue, go back to school and pull your pants up!!

  • @danchannell dude, you are an asshole, if you knew shit and knew how to actually read you would realize he talks about the band which was formed with the winner of the show, not the show itself

  • This is the reason I love YouTube! We used to watch this clip every single night before our prime time viewing started. Now, I get to listen to Ryan's album and EP, instead. However, it was fun to see the expressions and remember how much fun this show was- and how it brought Ryan's music into my life!

  • If you enjoyed this performance, I'd really recommend you check out Ryan's original material. There's a whole lot more where this came from.

  • Toby's face just said I had an eargasm

  • de vaina lloro cuando vi esta presentación en tv :) Yo a él lo amo, a él y a Dilana :)

  • I cant even listen to REMs version anymore is there not a studio version of ryan stars

  • @OMGordy I'm not aware of a studio version, but there was an Itunes album released just after this show. It was called "Dark Horse" and had this live portion of "Losing My Religion." I bought it just after Supernova aired, and still listen to it at least once a week. I've been a fan of Ryan's ever since, and he's only gotten better with time.

  • As a fan of Rock/hard Rock/AOR/ Metal this has to be the greatest performance by someone who wasnt famous. Cos after this performance he became a Rockstar, but soon faded cos the music industry doesnt keep up with Rock Music

  • @CavemanJesus4Life he's still going! His major label debut record comes out on August 3rd! CD release show at Irving Plaza in New York!

  • I sure miss the show Rockstar! Awesome performers....love to see them making it in the industry! Go Ryan Star!!

  • tingles down my spine

  • i think this was the second best performance of the show, first being creep. very very very good

  • I remember this song off the REM album, how i drove around in my car listening to it for hours. Somehow this is better...

and btw tommy lee is such a tool bag

  • I was there at Webster Hall yesterday for the Origins Rocks Earth Month free concert, where Ryan performed. I'm a new fan! He rocks!!!

  • holy fuck that was epic

  • Ryan "Rocked" this song!!! REM's version is good as they "are" REM. However, as juliojrdn said, Ryan made it his own and it was the best of the series for the show.

  • Whats up with this guy nowadays?

  • He toured with David Cook last year for part of Cook's Declaration tour. Guess he's still in the music business.

  • He is starting a new tour with Serena Ryder in April. And his single "Breathe" is starting to get major airplay.

  • @b3njamin0912 His new record comes out on Atlantic Records on August 3rd. CD release show at Irving Plaza in New York!

  • i think texanfournow is right though REM did really sound like they were bored ryan isnt just yelling hes adding power to his voice something rem didnt do regardless of who sings it its still well written

  • hell yeah!! this was probally my favorite performance on the show. I remember thinking Dilana did prtty kickass zombie too

  • holy shit

  • THIS is what rock is about...taking a song and making it your own...and rocking the shit out of it

  • awesome version ! :)

  • I LOVE THEM BOTH

  • HAHAHAHA

  • I think why this version sounds better to some people (like me) is that Ryan brings so much emotion and power to the song, whereas the original REM version is almost lifeless. M. Stipe comes off as almost bored and monotonous in comparison. Sorry REM fans! Running and ducking for cover...

  • I agree that he sings it with more "emotion" than REM did in there recording.

To me this is a result of the steriotype that the promoters of this kind of competition are promoting.

Lots of contestants and wannabe rockstars are going with the idea that the more angry and screaming in a song the more it "ROCKS" and the better it is.

So everyone tries to out scream, each other.

I guess that's what rock is, maybe REM weren't a "ROCK" as these hard dudes!!

  • The "lifelessness" of the original has a lot do with Stipe's interpretation of the lyrics (that he wrote, BTW). He describes emotional responses (laughing, singing) and then says that they were "just a dream." So while you may think Star's version is superior in sound, it doesn't match the message of the song as well as REM. I can make the ABCs sound more emotional and powerful simply by dramatizing my tone and screaming part of it at you.

  • ha ha////running and ducking must be sumthin u do a lot with such retarded statements!!!

  • The BEST Cover I So Far EVER Heard Of This Wicked Tune!!!

  • I like R.E.M.'s version more.

  • I think this song is so much better with a slower tempo and with a piano! It really brings the song to life. Ryan does a pretty good job with it. But I'd like to hear someone else do this version of the song.

  • I Love Ryan Star and I absolutely LOVE this version on Losing my Religion!

  • This completely ruined REMs Losing My Religion for me because this version is just so much better.

  • totally agree

  • @Christisms haha so true!!!
