@themassau That's correct. Since permanent magnets are subjected to saturation, real world rail-guns rely 100% on the (repelling) Lorentz-forces. The magnetic field created by the electrical current, can't saturate the air. Since hobbyist don't want to create lethal energies, they often use ferromagnetic materials in their EM-weapons (known as Gauss-guns; feasable in different variants).
