  • it does make the signal worse, its just that where you have strong signal before the 4.0.1 update the phone was showing too high signal because the signal wasnt shown by the bars properly because the 5th bar had alot of the signal range

  • I have the iPhone 4 from AT&T, and my girlfriend form Verizon, and guess what, I have coverage and a faster 3G in places where Verizon is 0

  • mine doesnt have any antenna issue..........Recently bought on ATT, idk i live in CALI Maybe the signal is so strong here it doesnt get that issue.

  • i can hear taylor swift

  • i have it.. and i dont have antenna issue.

  • You're in a store. They usually have antenna cable in that wire it's connected to.

  • @TheDeadCPU Can you point me to the AT&T web site that explains this?

  • @1compumagic Nope, I just know they do in almost every store that sells phones.

I know this cause I have connected a few of those up when I worked in a electronics store.

  • @TheDeadCPU no some iphones just don't have the problem.. like mine it has no problem.

  • is it 32g ?

  • @AJfio22 YES 32GB NVRAM

  • so should i wait to get a white iphone 4 ? or wait till verison gets it

? what should i do help me

  • @forerealz If you can wait I would suggest waiting till around October to see if Apple has a hardware or software fix for the antennuation issue or if you want the white one wait for it and get a case to protect from the reception issue. Verizon getting the phone is not guaranteed.

  • Honestly its amazing how the media blew this up. I had the "problem" on my phone. But I, because im not stupid, but a case on it. I planned on putting a case on it before it even came out. Why would you not put a case on your $300 phone? Still want to see the back? Put a bumper on it.

I have also seen a little antenna band aid you put over it (haha), not sure exactly how well it works, cant seem to find video on it. google it.

  • Who's to say that the iPhone 4 you're trying out in a shop isn't showing a genuine signal strength holding or not holding it in the 'death grip'. Considering that it is advertising the product, could it be that the retailer has shop phones that can only display five bar signal constantly by manipulating the signal strength display...?

  • @12simples34 our at&t store usually has about 3-4 bars so i doubt it's set up to show only 5.

  • ok im thinking about buying this phone but all my friends are like no it has the reception problem i just wont be dumb and use my whole hand to hoe the phone like that its really not that much of a problem

  • @Lack36 i have one and i don't see how people are covering it while holding it and ive got pretty good size hands.

  • Great! this means that we won't have so many problems in Canada because our networks are way better ! Anyways.. even though I am a big fun of the iPhone I do believe that Apple should solve this problem. I don't want to buy a $750 phone and have to hold it in a particular way, wich seems unconfortable or use the ugly "bumper". I know is $199 with a contract but apple gets the rest of the money form the carriers. I plead guilty becouse I'm buying it on the 30th when is released in Canada

  • There is nothing wrong with this new iphone. its just a simple glitch that all iphones have when they first launch. so all the cry babies out there just deal with it.

  • @Alig5436 Nothing wrong? u must not have one

  • I downloaded the update for my 3GS and it made my signal strength worse. I was getting a full bar most of the time and now it stays between 3 and 4 bars. Apple is dropping the ball, think I'm just going to get a droid.

  • @DavidLee97 No.. You actually used to only have 3 or 4 bars.. It was showing that you had full bars by mistake. The algorithm only changes how many bars the phone displays based on the db level of the signal, it has nothing to do with the actual signal strength you receive.

  • @DavidLee97

It didnt make it worse, it just more accurately portrays how strong the signal is. I dont know the exact number but its something like this. The lower the dB the better, so before if you were getting anything like 80 or lower it would full bars. but not and 80 would be 3 bars, 70 would be 4 and 60 and lower would be 5. that's why you seem to have worse reception when it is really exact ally the same.

  • Yeah I think the location plays a bigger part since you are at an ATT Store and the same thing happened when I tried it. Just get a case to fix the problem. Which should be moot because you should get a case to help protect at your own expense.

  • wow i cannot believe that you guys think there is a problem with this phone! i have one myself and i have great reception all of the time!

  • @wellcraftboat34 That's great - however, it all depends on where you are located relative to the cell towers, as many have found out. I have great reception too in my house, but I can create the issue in an instant - in the AT&T store I can't because of how strong the signal is there. I just got an iFrogz LuxeLean case and that partially and mostly solves the issue.

  • @1compumagic is the luxelean a good case?

  • @saberlamb69 Only if used with no invisible shield as the sheild adds enough thickness to it such that the case no longer fits! This is true with a full body back and front skin but not sure if you just have one side protected (front)... I loved the luxelean otherwise but ultimately had to return it.

  • @1compumagic so if you have a invisible shield on back and front it doesn't fit? that's kinda dumb.

  • @saberlamb69 Well the thickness of the shields causes the case not to fit and this is not so unusual, just unfortunate, and I returned the case. I did order a new one for free from Apple per their announcement about giving them away free to compensate for the anttena issue. I hope it fits! It is an Incase case.

  • @wellcraftboat34 thank you proving my point. enjoy your iphone 4 and i cannot wait to get mine! i ordered it saturday! :D

  • whats connect it to it?

  • @lstulzer security strap on back - not plugged into any iPhone port

  • Yeah right more and bigger bars will solve the problem.

  • @guzguz21 Yeah I am thinking they are using this as a smokescreen to slip in a deeper fix if they have one that would dynamically adjust the antennuation of the antenna as the two steel bands are grounded out by human touch... Will have to wait and see and test!

  • same here, ive been trying to do it, but only succeded once

  • @hiroxprima Did you also try in a store or do you own version 4? If you own one did you try at a location near a tower?

  • @1compumagic i have 4, actually earlier i got a dropped call from holding it in direct blocking of the antennas and i was about a block away from an at&t store. but i bought a case and it seems to go down 1 bar and go back up after...

  • @hiroxprima I am getting the luxelean case from iFrogs sold only (currently) at best buy

  • They probably have a cell phone tower on the roof. I have phone and trust me, the left hand reception issue is there.

  • @dunpeal21 I asked and they said no, but I will go back and ask again to make sure. In anycase, I wonder if Apple did their testing in such an environment because this is not reflective of Apple quality. Same goes for the iPad antenna for WiFi (it sucks)... whereas the 3G ATT connection (on iPad) is the same as the 3Gs (good)
