question.....what was that he said at the beginning then went silent when the camera appeared?....it sounded like "thats why ive always been been coked up"...i seriously doubt that was what he said though.
@gabbalabbawoop ...Jeff was having a conversation (I personally assumed it was about music, NOT drugs) and said something like "....and that's why I've always been fucked up..." Why does everyone just ASSUME Jeff was such a druggie? Back in the '70's and '80's, 99.9% of rock musicians DID do drugs to some degree. Jeff quit coke long before his death...and he is one of the greatest drummers of all time - drugs or NO drugs. Please just let him rest in peace.
@mamallama29 Gabba : You are correct. I am lucky to have two great friends who knew Jeff personally. He WAS NOT a big drug guy at all. Toto in general were little bit drinky-drinky, smokey-smokey guys. Tame for these days. That whole incident/reaction by the press after Jeff's passing was deplorable. The man was a genius, and I have songs with Jeff playing on them on a CD in my car - I listen on the way to gigs and get pumped up. Thank God for whoever posted this so we could all see , WOW.
Many engineers take off the resonant head of the kick drum and build a "bass tunnel" with some blankets and chairs. They'll usually use a condenser and also dynamic mic or two for punchy attack. I do it when I record as well.
to me, Dean Parks is synonym to word versatility. I mean, he's doin' such burn tunes as seen in here and on the other day he's playing straight-ahead jazz with Rachael Price and then again he's playing country with Bobby Bland!
This is not Toto. This is Tommy Denanders project, Radioactive - "Ceremony of innocence". He made two more albums (I think) with Radioactive, but not as catchy as Ceremony...
@gaae2000 Not much luck involved . . . these guys worked their asses off to get this good . . . and work their asses off on the job! Regardless, you can tell that they're having a great time!
The first parts of the video with Jeff, Mike, Steve P and Paich were filmed in 91...the rest is done over the years all the way up to a few years ago....
I'm still filming some interviews for the DVD documentary
Great to see them playing! I think "Ceremony Of Innocence" is an outstanding album, along with "Kingdom of desire" - great songs on it and Jeff kicks like ass.... Looks like he had fun playing the "harder stuff". :)
i wondered that the first time i saw this video the day it come up on youtube...jeff and mike are the best... i dont care what they did or what they were on... i just love their music! feel and inspiration
Honestly, Toto is just my favourite band, And my favourite Members Are Mike And Jeff, it's funny in the vid though, it sounds like Jeff goes "Yeah and that's why I've always been fucked up", and it sounded like Mike said "Well that's why I switched to Weed". Lol. Never the less, drugs or no drugs, I love this band so much, Do you have any info on mikes illness?
@JeRiSkInG1 actually I think Jeffrey says "That's why I've always been coked up". And I think you're right about Mikey sayin "That's why I'm goin with weed"! LOL Jeffrey learned all about that stuff playin with Fagan and Becker from Steely Dan!!
Not real sure; from Mike's response, and from their being on the session together, my GUESS is they're discussing the arrangment and their approach to creating a huge pocket for everybody else to fall into. They both have been MASTERS at doing that.
My all time hero. He just had an instantly recognisable groove.....and he used Paiste as well!! He has a fantastic snare sound in this clip......RIP Jeff
The song is - A Case Of Right Or Wrong (Tommy Denander - Fee Waybill) Fee Waybill - Lead vocals Tommy Denander - Guitars, keyboards Jeff Porcaro - Drums & percussion Mike Porcaro - Bass David Paich - Keyboards Steve Porcaro - Programming Mats Olausson - Keyboard solo Kristoffer Lagerström - Backing Vocals
TD - Like Aermsche, I idolize Jeff and this is the first I've had to see the master in action in the studio. WOW. I like the candid f-bomb in the beginning, funny. Thanks so much for putting this up and I cannot wait for the DVD.
I'm glad you don't mind my sharing this unique footage with other music lovers in here. I'm looking forward to the upcoming Radioactive DVD with more great stuff with Jeff and the guys. :-)
@TDenander Hallo. I guess that if I say that you are lucky to know all these musicians, you are really blessed. Anyway, I love this music but have a question. This seems to be spread through some years, based on footage. Is this from only one album? And that bass from Ab Laboriel and keys of Greg Phillinganes are lovely. Is that from the same album? They just sound different, than rest. Thank you.
@TDenander whats jeff say at the very beginning, that he's always been fucked up? anyway the dude is sooo cool, but whats the story with his death, cocaine i heard??
Anyone know the name of the song Abe is recording at 3:40?
