Do you even watch baseball? Almost all major league players use their body to swing the bat. Their hands go where their body takes them. Your body gives you the power and bat speed. Ichiro and Juan Pierre hit with their hands. Pujols, ARod, Adrian Gonzalez, Cano, Utley, and pretty much every other good hitters for power and average I can think of use their bodies to swing the bat. And by the way, you don't swing down at the ball either.
you don't use your body to start your swing otherwise it would leave your hands behind and you would get beaten every time. You hit with your hands not your body.
What does it mean if my bicep keeps hurting after I throw? as this ever happened to you, if so what did u do to help heal it. is it normal for you bicep to hurt after you throw? I found it weird because most coachs and trainers stress shoulder strength and not so much bicep. Is there anything im doing wrong?
Telling a hitter to hit an inside pitch the opposite way is part of the problem. Am I wrong? "hit it where it's pitched" means pull an inside pitch and go opposite with an outside pitch. And it's the Yankees coach? Yikes! A good analysis by "TouchEmAll"
@DjSmash5 The basic mechanics of the swing stay similar. You just have to let the ball get deeper in the hitting zone the more the ball is thrown away from you.
...word to describe a good swing, however telling a kid that will make him drop his hands even more so. Not dropping your hands is the hardest thing for a kid to understand, because it feels so unorthodox, and it's unlike how they've always hit. But what kids will do if you tell them the bathead goes rearward, or to drop the elbow in(or even the bat goes in an arc), in reality what they will do is deviate their elbow angles behind their back hip, while their body is still rotating.
Pretty much what you say is correct, sense you clearly support rotational mechanics.
But here's the thing. Almost EVERY young kid drops his hands, and many older players do as well. When they drop their hands, their HANDS lags as well as their bat, so when they are fully rotated, their hands still have a long way to go, and that is where the pushing comes in.
I mention this because, when you say the bat goes rearward, in reality it does to a degree, and I would also say an arc is a perfect
@noahmcdx That's ridiculous. Professional hitters (for the most part) have dialed in their swings and work to eliminate any holes that exist. Drills are designed to work on VERY specific areas of the swing, and not the entire swing as a hole. You weren't/aren't a big leaguer, and clearly didn't play at a high level, so don't mislead people.
@cotyclack It's actually not. Professional hitters (for the most part) have no idea why their swing really works. It's stupid how many hitters actually think they do knob of the bat to the ball, or use extension, or keep their hands inside the ball, or any of those other swing-ruining cliches from their little league coaches(and unfortunately, even highschool coaches and up), when they swing with rotational mechanics, which is physics-proven to be the most efficient to create batspeed.
@noahmcdx Go watch Robby Cano's swing in the 2011 MLB home run derby in the related videos to the right. Where's the knob of the bat to the ball? Where's the pushing with the top hand? He's rotating on a stationary axis. The lead arm is pulling the bat through the zone, and all angles are maintained until after contact, when you have to extend to decelerate or else your arms will come out of there sockets.
By the way, I'm 14. I haven't played pro ball yet.
@noahmcdx I played baseball at the collegiate level, and every single player I played with, and every player who went FURTHER knew their swings to the T. All the best hitters at that level, sparing a few VERY naturally talented athletes, dissected their swings and fixed each & every little hole. Clearly you didn't play at a high level, nor are you educated in the nuances of baseball. You saying "they have no idea how it works" is like saying all pros got lucky with a good swing. You're an idiot.
@cotyclack Your lack of a comprehensive response tells me you lack reading skills. I love responses like this. So all these dominican players know the physics of a baseball swing right? Playing at the collegiate level doesn't tell me much.
@cotyclack Most pros took a lot of BP, & had good eyes. They maybe also followed a few basic principles by instinct. But the more BP you take the more your swing becomes a "natural movement," which is biomechanically described as the kinesthetic sequence to that of a swing with rotational mechanics. Your brain makes adjustments on its own. That's why there are dominican players who have never heard of physics who have perfect swings because they spent all day hitting rocks with cheap bats.
@cotyclack By the way, following basic principles by instinct is the definition of talent on a baseball field. Those guys + a ton of BP turn out to be the best ball players & have the best swings. The basic principles would be thinks like instinctually tracking the ball with a still head while their shoulders rotate, knowing the FEELING of efficient torque, often without really knowing why, etc. Oh, and if you'd read my reply, you wouldn't of said, "you haven't played at a high level" again.
@Jmenex93 I do know a lot about fielding mechanics...check out our channel we have a bunch of fielding videos. Improving your contact has to do with a bunch of things. For one you need to improve your bat path to give you the best chance of being in the "hitting zone" as early and as long as you possibly can.
What an amazing swing

@imhungre789 Actually your bottom half has to start rotate before your hands move.

It amazes me how so many hitters do dumb drills and think they actually swing in a game like they do their stupid drills.
I can't believe some big leaguers still think knob of the bat to the ball is the way to hit. No one in the big leagues does that shit.
noahmcdx 5 months ago
Yes I agree with you. A lot of Major League hitters do not even know what they do. They just hit.
