  • mine also purs its the diverter valve bouncing on mine . i think

  • It was fixed by the valiant engineer who turned down the gas supply, and reduced the temperature to about 65 degrees. I'm glad its not now noisy, but for the boiler to run efficiently, it is designed to run fully hot, which it now isnt.

I never found out what caused the problem, I believe a blockage somewhere in the system, thats why they recommend a system flush before fitting a new boiler

  • What was the conclusion on this? My boiler is doing exactly the same- a loud "grinding" noise that shakes through the whole house. My solution is to turn heat/hw down to 50 degrees.

  • that is the diverter valve bouncing

  • Sranje od bojlera vjeruj mi!!!!

  • Filled system with sentinel x400 system restorer last week, left it circulating round system for a week, totally drained and flushed system myself today, and filled with sentinel x100 inhibiter. Noise has totally stopped, boiler is back to how it should be.

I guess it was due to a blockage in the heat exchanger, and the sentinel x400 system restorer did what it was supposed to

  • And it's more than definitely not the fan, I changed one on the boiler before with this fault and it did the same thing, it's just the black air intake tube.

  • I have seen this problem before and after several calls to vaillants technical line I spoke to someone that knew there stuff. It was down to the air intake pipe inside the boiler and drilling a 6mm hole in the top of it solves the fault!! It's a design fault but he said it very rarely happens? They have changed the design now.

  • without reading any comments ill say fan

its too fast for anything else

just a hose or wire catching the blade i suspect.

off balance blades are more mechanical sounding.

  • Press the - button under the LCD - display. it will show you the pressure in the heating system. if it´s under 0,6 bars, there will be not enough water for circulation in the radiatior und will maybe also explain why the temp. is so high

  • noisy heat exchanger! downrating the boiler just hides the problem, blame who ever fitted the boiler without cleaning the system fully, and adding a magnetic filter from new, his penny pinching is going to cost you dear! hope you got a good price!

  • Hi, have you seen the clip of the ideal isar this boiler is very noisy this problem is often caused by a joint in the flue

  • @serehcousins this is not the case, that's different noise

  • main heat exchanger is blocked with system debris requires flushing and new heat exchanger it is not the fan at all!! the heat exchanger gets coated in debris and causes noise like putting a bit of tomatoe sauce in a pan and putting the hob on full burn it cakes the sauce to the pan same thing happens with debris causing micro pockets of boiling water in heat exchanger thats what makes the noise..... ( vaillant engineer)...

  • @123dfire I dont see why my engineer (the one who fitted it), or 2 Vaillant engineers didnt pick it up (i suppose it is a hassly job to fix though). The engineers just down down the heat output

  • @steveburrowscbr Vaillants engineers probably know exactly what the problem is, they also know that it is probably not covered under the warranty as the system was not cleaned prior to installation, they are just trying to keep your boiler runnning

  • To prove that its the fan making the noise when its on full power. Turn the boiler max heat output down to 50% and it will stop happening(or get vaillant engineer to do it). But don't accept that as a fix. It needs the fan replacing.

  • @odserv The last Vaillant engineer did turn the heat output down. In stead of heating up to 72 degrees from cold in about 2 minutes, it now takes longer than 5 minutes. That sort of cured it for a bit, but it came back, and the only way i can stop it is setting the boiler thermostat to 65 degrees

  • The reason it only happens when the heating is on is that the burner modulates depending on the demand. When the hot water is on the demand is low as the cylinder cannot take the full power of the boiler. The heating can take the full power of the boiler so the burner (and the fan) turn up to full power and make the horrible noise. I can understand your plumber not recognising the noise but the Vaillant engineer should - perhaps he's just crap!

  • It's not the heat exchanger.! It's the fan. Trust me I've fitted and serviced dozens of these boilers. The heat exchangers are prone to blocking and this will be indicated by a rapid rise in the temperature when the boiler fires. A blocked H/E will be really noisy but not the noise yours is making

  • @odserv It does sound like the fan, but wouldnt the Vaillant engineers or my plumber have picked it up, they have all seen the video?

Also, why does it only do it when the heating is on, and the temp raises to over 72degrees, but never when heating the water, even it that is set to 75 degrees? (I still have a hot water cylinder, its not used as combi)

  • my boiler does the same thing now. its been flushed, it has had an external filter added, nothing stops it. the comment aboutfan not being balanced sounds more like it. is it dangerous??? as were renting the landlord is dealing with it... slowly!!!

  • No matter how clean the water is coming out it needs flushed! Not just this fill up drain down carry on. It's the flux and other stuff that kill's boilers.

I bet it was the rubber hose on the left side of the heatexchanger was blocked.

  • It is still under the 2 year gaurantee. Vaillant have been out twice now. Apparently the boiler is not at fault. They recommend a power flush (about £500) and a new pump (£100+ for a Grunfost) This seems ridiculous as old boiler had no problems, house is only 8 years old, and my plumber said system was clean (was partially drained down to fit boiler, water was clean, and full of Fernox)

  • it has a two year guarantee you should of got vaillant out to it

  • @JASR162

Vaillant have been out two or three times. Their fix was to rurn down thermostat to 65 degrees to fix it. Apparetly the boiler is not at fault

  • I had the vaillant EcoTec plus just about a year ago with a different problem recently happened. It heats up water well but not the radiators! gush I feel I wasted lots of money on this boiler. Now vaillant ppl call me to extend maintenance deal with them, and I tell you I don't want even to know them or get them into the house.

  • @nadernemo Vaillant boilers are the best money can buy,

it's just the clowns that fit them!

You have one of the finest boilers on the market at the time.

  • Went to a vaillant with the exact same symptons, turned out to be main heat exchanger full of crap.Btw, your installer should have flushed the system properly when he installed it.

  • House is only 8 years old, when the Vaillant was installed the water drained out was clean, and full of Fernox.

Plumber saw no need to power flush, as he thinks they are a waste of money, and as my house is so new, and system properly protected with Fernox, it was pointless. I will be flushing and cleaning myself, and fitting a new Grundfos pump)

  • @steveburrowscbr Sorry. But it's not a combi it is a heat only boiler.

Sounds like the fan, however with the scenarios you are saying ie when the heating is on and not the hot water I would say it is debris in the pipework and boiler needs flushing. Is the pump located near the hot water cylinder?

  • Combustion fan unit

  • Fan not balanced

  • New heat exchanger for you!
