As we crashed into the back of it..it didnt move an inch..metal onto metal at 40mph it was a Dead Stop!..Everyone in the park came rushing over.
Lucky for us..the wife of the bloke sat at the back of me was a solicitor,within 10 minutes the park was full of Police,Fire engines,Ambulances& a helicopter(not sure if that was tv or Police).
There were only 6 of us on the ride..I dont know how the others got on but I got 4k for my ordeal..I havent been on another dipper since tho :(

its not as good as what it used to be, the lift hill is at a snails pace even when they have one train on it, it feels like at the top that your not going to make it round the top corner to the 1st drop.
my opinion they should get rid of it and build a ride like stelth at thorpe park, also get rid of the wild mouse as well

There's a lot of history in these coasters, and a lot of accidents, but you can't expect there not to be when this park is so old. It's been here since the 1920's I think, maybe before then, I'm not too sure. I hate it when people think they're dangerous for having so many crashed, fair enough if they're only a year or two old, but this, the Big One and more are really old and for how old they are and how long thay hae been running, they're very safe coasters. I love the Pleasure Beach.

If I were you, I would think about what how much history this park has and realise how lucky the UK is to have a park like that, it is one of the oldest surviving amusement parks in the UK, they're dying out FAST in the UK!
@ididi9 Poor maintenance is thanks to Amanda Thompson...the current manager and owner of Pleasure Beach. Her father was a legend and actually cared for the wooden roller coasters. Amanda shut the cyclone at pleasureland and left the whole park in a mess. She is more than capable of maintaining the rides...especially their ancient wooden coasters that are more prone to problems than the more innovative attractions.

I didn't say that you said that roller coasters are unsafe. I said that at no point did you reassure the viewers that the rides at BPB are very safe. The gp that don't understand certain aspects of roller coasters, and therefore when they watch videos like this, feel that roller coasters are unsafe, and therefore will not visit the park. Take a look at the comments on "therideguide"s pov video of Big Dipper then you'll see what I'm on about. Seriously, think about how people interpret your video
It'll be ok, the big dipper has been going since the 20's and never had an accident until now. It's a rollercoaster of historic importance and they probably wont rip it down, I think it may even be listed (there's a plaque in the queue hall you can see), great ride and this wont deter me from riding it again!

the ride will be closed for a month - 6 weeks then it will re-open on a one train service only. in all its years its never had an accident unlike the modern coasters these days
they better not close it for good .. its a classic rollercoater maybe a bit shabby but i wanna take my kids on it like my dad did with me and his dad also its been there since day 1 and i love it haha

We went on it on 31st and while it felt unsafe, it was no worse thatn the wild mouse or the grand national. It was boundto happen tho, i meanwood rots! Hope everyone is ok soon and isnt mentally affected by it, it must have been awful.

may be time for a makeover, this was built in the 30's. I love this ride and is a great wooden coaster, but it definately feels unsafe by todays standards - IMO Probably what makes is a great ride :)

Mate of mine was on the train that stopped. He got a free year entry because he wasn't injured.
I think some of the ones that got injured got loads of compensation. I wouldn't mind a broken arm for a grand or two lol

I've never known it to run two trains.
Great Yarmouth's woodie has an operator pulling the brakes on from within the train!
That would be a good idea - make the operator have surgery if they make a mistake.

god i cant believe it! me and my family go every year nearly and we were going in a few 2 weeks but not now :( god i feel so sorry for the ppl who wer on it :(

I went on the saturday before and felt the was unsafe so i didntgo on it.Feel sorry for the people who went on!!!Hpe they make a full recovery!

i came home from blackpool like 4 days aftyer theis happened and i looked at the article about and i go wtf i went on this ride and it crashed i mean when i was in pleasure beach last wednesday last week the ride had to be closed beacuse it got stuck on the chain lift hill at the beggining

aorry just read sum more comments, as the day went on each ride felt alot more vigarous, i have bruised my ribs off that ride as it was extreamly bumpy and...not right, im sorry i dont quite no how to explain it, i hope everyone is ok after it

yeah we went on it loads, my brother loves it, and the other rolla coster he likes was closed for the day so we chose to go on that, after that closed he wanted to go but we asked the man and he sed it wud be ready in a hour so we waited and sure enuff it was up and running again, and we went on it loads, as we waited to go on for around about the 18th time we heard a noise and poeple rushin about we paniked and sure enuff it crashed, we all think the crash is related to the problem before

it most likely won't close, but to be honest, who would want to go on it after that has happened, well i know that i wouldn't, the second carriage had crashed into the 1st one and rolled back down the track, i was there today and the ride was closed, obviously, as if anyone would wanna go back on it!

-i went to the pleasure beach on Wednesday the 5th of August & the big dipper was closed! Im glad it was closed because i would have gon on it and everyone is saying it didnt feel safe! ii dont know if i want to go on a roller coaster again.......Good job iit wasnt da pepsii max.....Wow......

I was also there on the 5th,the ride was closed in the morning but opened in the afternoon,i chose to go on the grande national instead.I did think the big dipper looked a bit tatty.

the pepsi max did the same thing a few years ago. one smashed into the other. the pleasure beach needs to watch themselves or maybe one will come off the track some day!

the only problem i had at the pleasure beach was when Valhalla stopped while going upwards through the spinning tunnel! I couldn't tell up from down!

and yeah that must hav bin weird on valhalla. i love that ride. luckily ive never had any problems with the rides. the big one broke down once before i got on it but thats it. i love the big dipper too. one of my fave rides. ill probably still go back on it even though its crashed....but not for a long time!

We went on it on 31st and while it felt unsafe, it was no worse thatn the wild mouse or the grand national. It was boundto happen tho, i meanwood rots! Hope everyone is ok soon and isnt mentally affected by it, it must have been awful.

they do rail and track structure checks every morning on every ride. its standard procedure.

may be time for a makeover, this was built in the 30's. I love this ride and is a great wooden coaster, but it definately feels unsafe by todays standards - IMO Probably what makes is a great ride :)
