the nexus one is a platform.you can put anything you want on it the hero just gives it to you. and you cant really change it. i like the hero clock when it has the animation but if it doesnt have the animation i dont care, download beautiful widgets if you want to have the clock.he just doesnt like the nexus one

I like texting and obviously good sound quality on the phone, internet browser won't be used much but youtube will be used a lot. I enjoy touch screen and I like multi touch capabilities. I also would like a phone with video camera and regular picture taker that has good quality.

The author some gives valid points. I personally bought Nexus One as I was fed up with waiting for the official update for Hero. Apart from better hardware specs, image quality and bigger screen there was nothing better in terms of USABILITY. After two weeks of having Nexus One I sold it on eBay and came back to Hero with a custom ROM. Quality widgets for Nexus One are PAID and often not as sleek and functional as Hero's Sense. These are facts I'm afraid.

Man im a Proud owner of a Nexus one, i think your a little bias, Firstly theirs several wonderful widgets for Calendars and clocks. on the beginning of February their was a system upgrade on the nexus and it has multi touch now to. You clearly need to go more in-depth and see how the Nexus runs circles around the hero.

great review, I agree from what I've seen (I've only browsed/touched the Nexus, I have the Hero) but as regards the month view on calendar view, the HTC Hero could REALLY benefit from those green bars the Nexus One has - something similar, showing how busy your day already is, is very nice for planning ahead in time :)

I own a HTC hero and I agree with a few points that you've made. However its more of a comparison of sense ui and default android. One major downside about sense ui is the updates! we have to wait ages for htc to tailor updates of android to fit with sense ui and it takes ages!

k well i understand some of ur arguments i have neither of these phones for the record and would be happy with either but cmon your first reason about the contacts search is lazy. you hit 1 extra button and said the hero is MUCH more convenient? then the multi touch is on n1 in other areas its a legal thing. that clock/weather is $1 on market. & the calanders are idential just slightly different skin but u say it SO MUCH BETTER! cmon1.5 v 2.1?1ghz cpu? hero just looks better n1s more functional.

i have a g1 by the way and rooted i have way more features than either of those and when i get an n1 it will have all the features with the hardware to back it up when i root it too. sounds like you just have some favoritism or something... maybe hate google? its still and htc phone but since googles name is on it htc wont put any of there propriatory bits on it fair enough too but learn to root and you can have it all. ;)

There Are a lot of views to be had but please please make sense b4 posting about speed while this is true the hero is not slow by any means and weren't you critics drooling over this hero the majority of 2009?? before you could even spell snap/dragon? For the majority speed isn't only thing that's important nor do they want a simple yet ugly interface riding shotgun on on Google's 1ghz super phone and no one should have to go XDA just to pretty up their Gui nor to the N1 market 4 sum make-up..

Well if the GUI is your concern you can customize Nexus One so that it looks similar to Hero.

I agree with you, he ignored the fact that Nexus One is way faster than Hero. It is twice as fast as hero. If you don't like the Nexus operating system, you can rooted to Sense UI and it'll be a twice advanced hrc hero. Nowadays, people can rooted their phone in any type of operating system they like. We shouldn't look at the operating system, but the components of the phone such as the motherboard, cpu, etc. just like a computer.

i think i agree with marcfontejin..these may be "small" things but imho, when it comes to investing this much on a phone, every little smalll detail counts and even nicer GUI and 1 less click does make using a gadget tht much more enjoyable.. being a "superphone", the nexus should offer users better default features as opposed to relying on 3rd party softwares

All of these "criticisms" are just software related. Which can be EASILY rectified by uploading a different ROM, or installing software from the market. The beauty about these phones is they are so customizable and *hackable* so to speak because they're based on linux and open source.

4. The calendar is a none 'issue'. The calendar is not as pretty, sure, but to dismiss it is a joke.

5. You can download alternative keyboards (Swype, ShapeWriter etc) and you can also install the HTC keyboard. Head on over to XDA-developers.

6. Multitouch is available on the Nexus One via the Dolphin Browser and will no doubt be implemented in an OTA update.

you can also download the htc keyboard on the nexus one

just download the "htc_ime" on the internet and you will have it, and download astro in the market to download from your sdcard

if you want a phone based on looks get an iphone because thats a fashion device
