To be fair, in the Attitude Era the Rock also had to appear whenever the boss said so for the pay cheque. Nevertheless, that's what the superstars of their respective eras are supposed to do. And the current era is PG Era, John Cena's era, and the onus is on John Cena to please the crowd, just as it was on the Rock in the Attitude Era.

In the colden attidute era days even Austin could lose a match cleanly to kurt angle. They cannot let Cena lose cleanly to anybody because his fans 8 year old fanboys would be like "oh no cena sucks now" and then they stop buying his lame ass shirts and company would lose money.
