  • This video is a favorite on Roseau

  • where can you download this?

  • Saw this performed at the Barbican London by the LSO yesterday It was fabulous and Steve Reich performed the 'Clapping music' with Neil Percy Part of his 75th Birthday celebrations

  • GO I LOVE MINIMALISM - check out the featured link in the suggestions - A choeographed dance from SYTYCD season 5 - just makes this song better x a zillion if that is even possible :D

  • when ever i listen to this piece i imagine flying over a big city at night. the pulsating percussion depicts the hustle and bustle of the city. the the low strikes of the piano and timpani create angular shapes symbolizing structures. the violins with their accented lines depict the grander and the majesty of the skyscrapers that seem to reach towards the sky.

  • man MAN at 2:38 it is the SHIT! UNH!

long live altered dominant chords with accented tritones in the bass! UNH!

(take a listen to sextet movement V and Three Movements movement three (and for that matter, new york counterpoint movement three AND electric counterpoint movement three.)

a similar affect happens in all five pieces. God Damn Awesome

  • @Stimulator7 OMG YES. literally passed out :p

  • @Stimulator7 tritones are the best!!!!!!

  • @Rinhos I think these composers are not so far from the classics as many think. Like them they wrote about the world around them. Reich saw computers multiplies 0 and 1's at an unstoppable rate, cars going by in geometric precision, people switching through channels of light (Tv) at an intense, etc, and his style reflects that. We have to remember we live in an unusual world, and Reich was amongst the 1st to see that world really hit top gear. But I do agree the piece like Ravel wich unusual

  • This is Ben Davis Marching bands opener! =)))))

  • Hey look, our marching band opener. haha

  • @louster200 odd opening for a marching band

  • @Rasengan2xChidori Yeah, I think it's a little weird. Plus it being in a 5/4 time signature just makes it more confusing. =/

  • @louster200 lol

  • @Rasengan2xChidori We make it work very nicely actually

  • @louster200 are we in the same band here?

  • @511noixa If you go to BD, then yes.

  • @louster200 oh god louie, go work at dairy queen and get maide fun of

  • @511noixa What. Who is this?

  • @louster200 you dun goofed up.

  • @511noixa FFFFFFFFFF I don't what Jake this is.

    I did dun goof.

  • @louster200 consequences will never be the same.

  • @louster200 do you have any recordings of the band playing it? We are using this as our closer this year

  • @louster200 Lol its our closer.

  • @louster200 Ha. This is our closer.

  • @zach31194 Who arranged your piece?

  • @Invader001 Matt McCarthy. Trumpet player here in Orlando.

  • @louster200 Ha. This is our closer. But it is arranged, so it is similar, and of course, contains a woodwind feature.

  • @louster200 This was our closer.

  • I can't understand why I can't seem to find a youtube vid of SYTYCD's version of Kayla/Jeanine from season 5 choreographed by Mia..anyone know where i can find a good version?

  • @buchananbecca there used to be one (which was the second time i heard the song) but it was removed. other than that i guess you'll to google it

  • This particular movement what I think is Reich's most dramatic and powerful pieces he has ever composed. This is something that could be used in a high action movie or thriller.

  • damn good minimalist music. I do kinda like Reich, especially the 4 sections.

  • I always think of Towers or skyscrapers whenever i hear this song. =)

  • @5botball lol maybe it's the picture :D

  • @Rasengan2xChidori why you dont think so?

  • Weird, I posted this last year and Sony removed it. Glad you put it up... I LOVE this piece...

  • @Sepharite yeah i think i saw yours b4 but i guess i managed to fight copyright issues

  • One of my fav of Reichs...I was tripping when I first heard this...love, love, love this!!!

Hey what about the other 3 sections...? If noone else is able to, then I might try myself...they need to be heard! Cheers, great upload;)

  • @Hopjumpskip the other aren't really special it's just broken down in three parts(strings, percussion, and woodwinds)

  • Powerful piece of music.

And one of his best works.

  • What an amazing piece.

  • yes yes yes

  • THANK YOU FOR UPLOADINGG TuT

  • no prob

  • Man, these last two years just must be the years of Reich uploads, because I am finally seeing all these songs I have never seen anywhere else before.
