  • Can you make a roast beef tutorial?

  • I llove how you have made the strawberries ! But can I use air dry clay to pack instead of playdough?

  • @TheOMGILOVE I don't know

  • And if u do, wouldnt they be hard to cut?

  • Do u bake the canes before u cut them?

  • you should use some sort of size marker. i tried the orange one and it ended up being too wide to roll out. otherwise, love all these ideas!

  • @kellyfack you can never make it too wide to roll out :) if you make a wide and fairly flat cane just squeeze it in the beginning and it'll decrease in size - then roll

  • @coolgurls911 No it isn't, it's wrapped in play dough. Read the text on the strawberry one. I am also curious about why you use the playdough.

  • @cindellednic , @JerseyClay101 Strawberries aren't round, they're pointy. If you roll it like a regular cane you'll end up with a round strawberry. if you wrap it in playdough to make a round shape then you can still roll the strawberry, because you can peel off the playdough (it doesn't stick to polymer clay) when you're done. ^^

  • @Ripplebreeze So do you mean to say that the playdough around the outside stops the strawberry cane inside from rounding out? That's genius!

  • @cindellednic Basically. And tell me about it! When I heard about it, I was like WOAH!

sadly, I haven't tried yet, because I'm still struggling on just making a cane. I can't even make a citrus one! D:

  • @Ripplebreeze Aww, I made one the other night it turned out great! Are you stretching it properly before you roll it? I read that you should stretch it to almost the width you want it and roll just a bit at the end. Of course I bow to Sugar's great judgement!

  • @cindellednic St...retch? My clay ends up cracking a bit when I try to stretch it... No idea why it's happening...I just roll, and the ends usually get all messed up >___<

  • @Ripplebreeze Oh noes! What kind of clay are you using? I've never had polymer clay crack before...is your clay old?

  • @cindellednic Sculpey, and...yeah...it's rather old, now that I think about it....

  • I dont get point of wrapping it in play dough

  • asome

  • girl, I love you ;)

  • do u bake first then cut them or cut them then bake? please reply :)

  • @AwesomeGeminiHehe both, depending on what I need to use them for.

  • i dont understasnd how to roll it!!!!!!!

  • @polishjunkie44 no need to make "!!!!!!!!!"..... put it on the side and begin roling it into a cane/snake.

  • @polishjunkie44

Don't roll at the start. Carefully pinch and pull repeatedly until you have it almost at the thickness that you want, then you roll carefully to smooth out any uneven areas. If you start by rolling it directly, you often end up with a "swirly" effect that makes the end result look slightly twisted and less realistic.

  • No one has this information, please help! Do I cook the cane, then cut? Or cut, then cook?

  • @Masshiroi both. you can do it both ways, depending on what you feel like and what you prefer/need

  • @Masshiroi

Bake it, then cut it. It's easier to make the slices less distorted that way, especially if you're new to caning. If you cut it while it's still a little warm, it'll be easier to cut through the cane, and avoid chipping.

  • i've seem some people use translucent, but i dont think i way you use any, but your fruit slices still had some translucent qualities? do you use translucent clay?

  • @kittyfamily777 No, she uses Cernit. And Cernit clay is more translucent then other clays. So if you're using Fimo or Sculpey then it's a good idea to add a little bit of translucent. :)

  • @iluvozzy2006 please do let me reply (I already had ;) )... I used translucent clay.

  • @SugarCharmShop Oh, sorry I didn't see your comment

  • do u bake it until it fully hard or almost full baked

  • thankyou for your kiwi one, its the best i've seen beacsue its less likely to make the seeds go all blobby when rolling,, gonna end up with alot of piles of brown clay trying to practise and get this right :)

  • how do you roll the strawberry cane without it loosing the triangular shape?

  • @HeyThereSugarJwly using the method I explained in the video :)

  • @SugarCharmShop i guess you didn't make it clear enough for me >_<

i don't understand the purpose of the play-doh and scrap clay.

  • @HeyThereSugarJwly the play dough doesn't stick to the clay. so you can peel off the outer layer when you're done rolling it - but strawberry canes can also be stretched instead of rolled :)

  • Kiwi and strawberry kind looks hard 4 me ^3^ but I wanna try orange! :D

  • And then what happens? What do you do with this?

  • @nesseline use them in my miniature projects

  • How do you make the canes not distort when you slice them? Do you bake? For how long? Please help :(

  • @KlareAquaTea I baked them for 5 minutes. I have a few tips for making canes on my blog, but in general you need to make sure they're packed properly, that you roll them equally on all sides and that it has been made well enough all the way through

  • @KlareAquaTea you can also put them in the fridge or freezer :)

  • Ps sorry it reposted so much.. My computers dumb.

  • Hey I need your help my canes always come out distorted and it's not because of my

Blade, they get messed up when i roll them.. Any ideas?

  • @Leakingstar canes can get messed up if you havn't packed them well enough,. if you use different clay brands where some are softer,. if the cane hasn't been made well enough all the way through etc :/ I have a post on my blog with a few tips for making canes, not sure if it'll help

  • Sugar charm shop! Need you help! I've tried making canes about 10times now but they ALWAYS have something wrong with them. Like the lines in the citrus aren't connected or the outer layer is thinner and thicker at different parts! I really want to make them can you help?

  • @Leakingstar if you roll out the pieces by hand it's easier to get different thicknesses. make sure you connect the lines, and before rolling press it all the way around

  • great banana!

  • I wanted to see how the canes in the thumbnail were made... ):

  • @pokapopcorn they are in the video. the citrus..

  • @SugarCharmShop guess you're right. didn't seem like that because the look a bit translucent when sliced, but i guess that just has to do with the color and how thin the slices are (:

  • Thx

  • Umm i used something called craftsmart

  • @awesomegirl354 I've heard of that brand but we can't get it here :/ Fimo is probably the best clay brand for canes. I use Cernit and Fimo for my canes. but it's weird that it didn't work out at all with the craft smart brand. if that's the only clay brand you use, you can always just keep the canes unbaked and cut off the slices you need for a project then

  • No, i cant bend them at all

  • @awesomegirl354 what clay brand did you use ?

  • I cant cut my canes. Am i over baking them?

  • @awesomegirl354 not sure :/ are the canes flexible when you try to bend them a little?

  • so what size is your piece overall (before you roll it out)?

thank you for actually making this ;D

might see about mum buying me some polymer clay now ;D

  • @robynreckless I don't go for a certain size :) The bigger you make it the more canes you'll get, the smaller you make it the less canes

  • Ur so creative

  • Can you make the shape as big or small as you want and then roll it to what thickness you want so you don't have a million slices?? Or is it easier to do it bigger?

  • @BalayleeNails it's up to you :) I like making mine big so I have a lot of canes. last time I made strawberry I ended up with more than 94 canes ^^

  • Can i us eplaydough instead??

  • I've been using a steak knife for cutting my canes, it that ok to use? Or should I use a razor?

  • @xoxrocketdawg561 it's up to you I guess. but don't use that steak knife for food again once it's been used for clay

  • This is the third cane I've made, and the third time it hasn't worked! :( My canes always come out crumbly, and they just break when I cut them - I think I might be baking them for too long... So much wasted clay! T.T

  • @TammyHallam I bake them at the temperature on the package for 5 minutes in a regular oven.

  • @SugarCharmShop Thats what I did - gas mark 1/2 for 5 minutes... I think next time I'll try 2 minutes, see if that makes any difference :)

  • @TammyHallam polymer clay is more likely to be crombly if you underbake it - it needs to be baked for longer to achieve maximum strength

  • @SugarCharmShop So I'm actually baking it too little? I didn't think of that! Thank you :)

  • @TammyHallam If I was you I'd try taking 2 small canes, bake one of them for 2-3 minutes, and one of them for maybe 10 minutes. I don't know if it can have something to do with the brand of clay you use. I don't recommend using a toaster oven to bake because it's hard on the clay

  • a kiwi is a bird to b exact. a bird that cant fly

  • @karo1234123 and a fruit to be exact. a fruit you can eat

  • its not a kiwi! a kiwi is an animal! its a kiwi fruit because it comes from new zealand where there are the only kiwis in the WHOLE world. i should know im from new zealand! just letting u know! ^-^

  • @sushiluvr208 I also use fimo for a lot of my canes and it works fine for me - if you use a toaster oven that can be the problem but otherwise I don't know

  • @SugarCharmShop would you trade some with me?

  • @TheKdog20000 I don't do trades, sorry

  • @sushiluvr208 if you want

  • @twinkielovex3 please leave requests on my bloh :)

  • Hi, I absolutely love your work :D

For the canes - do you bake them before or after you slice them - because i baked my canes before i slice them - and the slices always crumble/break,why does this happen?

  • @xXsoulcatcher I bake these before slicing them. I don't know why yours come out crumbly, others have had that problem as well but for most the result is flexible canes after 5 minutes baking or more

  • how long do u need to bake it for? and at what tempature

  • @bookwormstories temperature is on the clay package. 5 minutes

  • I love your work!! Iv watched like all your nail vids as I am getting into acrylic- you have a different taste than most people, you see things in a different light, i like that your very original. Anyway I love the fruit slices & I just may try the hello kitty for myself ;)

  • @vntm1130 polymer clay :)

  • @vntm1130 it will be a deform cane if it hasn't been made properly. has to be baked. clay is not expensive

  • Are you supposed to underbake them ?

  • @shmileyrawrdino it's up to you. I bake them for 5 minutes because I bake them again once I use them on miniature food but when they're that small they aren't underbaked :)

  • @SugarCharmShop Oh, ok (: Thank you. Do they change shape if you bake them for 5 minutes ? Or will they stay in cane form ? I mean if you were to bend it or something.

  • @shmileyrawrdino they're flexible after baking :)

  • @SugarCharmShop Ok. Thank you so much (; <3 And I'm gonna order something from your shop, How long does it take to ship to Washington? Cause I'm on vacation right now , and for another week, and I don't want it like, outside my house/mailbox while I'm gone.. So how long will it take?

  • @shmileyrawrdino my shop is temporarily closed because I'm preparing for a fair here in Denmark :)

  • @SugarCharmShop Oh ok (: Could you let me know when it's open?

  • @shmileyrawrdino I'm sorry but I can't keep track of too many people so to all who've asked I reply the same way - please check out the site once in a while to see if there's been made any changes, because I don't know when it'll be up and running again :/ - All charms have been removed from it so I have to figure out a better system before adding the miniatures, but won't be until the fair is over

  • I also Cernit and Fimo. I only bake for 4 minutes though...

  • @Kuleceline10 you can also bake for 2 minutes. or 10 minutes ;D it's up to you

  • the strawberry cane idea with the playdoh is genius! thank you :)

  • Ehm i need help with something. When u make canes, u bake them for 4-5 min right? After they have cooled i try to slice them but they just break! Could it be that my blade isn't sharp enough?

  • @Kuleceline10 Others have had problems with brittle canes after baking. clay can be brittle if it's not baked long enough, but my canes are nice and flexible after 5 min, so I don't know why your canes are different. maybe it's the brand of clay. I use fimo and cernit only, don't know if brands like sculpey lll aren't good for it or if something else is wrong.

just wondering - did you bake it in a regular oven? I know some use a toaster oven, and those are too hard on the clay

  • When I have free time I'm going to start crafting these :D

  • Do you slice these canes after you bake them? and if you do what brand of clay do you use? :)

  • @clayminiatures I use fimo and cernit for all my creations. I have both baked and unbaked canes

  • Tried strawberry.. Was a fail, lost me at the playdoh and rolling it out.. The trickiest part:(. Canes are super tricky, need practice

  • If i use sculpey at wat temp. Would I have to bake it at and how long?XD

  • @smileypanda123 I don't have sculpey. baking instructions are on the packages for temperature. I bake canes for 5 minutes

  • can't wait to try..ive been trying to make canes..can't do it!!!no brown clay..going to try orange, strawberry, lemon today!!

  • wow, I have no patience to do that x] maybe the citrus but the kiwi! nope not gonna end so well xD

btw I love fruit canes ^^

  • omg thk u for this...I have NOT been able to make canes successfully..this helps alot!

  • i now wanna by some of these clay and make these..it looks fun

  • @NerdetteTheNinjette if you ask me it's definitely a lot of fun ^^ hehe

  • Thanks for these :D! They're really helpfull :)

  • @eliichocolate no problem! :) Glad you find them useful ^^

  • @BriannaisCrafty no problem ^^ I will be making another one of this king with fruits/vedgetable canes.

  • Comment removed

  • @ArtsAndCraftsLOVER

please don't put that many question marks :). before baking cut it into cane sizes you want, that way you can see if it looks like it's surposed to. I really can't help you much more since I can't see your cane :/

but the end pieces are always messed up :)

  • my citrice canes never turn out good i tryed 2 different ways why does it do this?!?!?!?!?!?!

  • @TheMaggiecat1 depends on in what way they don't turn out right. the citrus canes should be the easiest ones to do :/ when you've gathered the pieces press the cane on the sides so everything inside sticks together. you can press it for a while if you want, this will also reduce the size as well as rolling. after you've reduced the cane a little by pressing begin rolling. roll equaly on all sides

  • WOW! I know I would NEVER be able to make the banana, but GREAT JOB! =D

  • @nailsbydesign2 the banana is the second-easiest I think :) I'm sure you're able to make it!

  • @SugarCharmShop Ha ha, Really? Well, I must try!

  • @nailsbydesign2 definitely! ^^ you could always start by making a small version so you won't use too much clay if it messes up. even though the banana is in the same color-range all the way, so the color would be usable if it didn't work out :)

  • @SugarCharmShop Oh, yeah! I've never thought of it that way! I am totally going to make some canes today! =D thank you!

  • @twilightrules97 if you want to :)

  • You started it so big, how can it become so small? And one more, can we use it on nails as fimo? :)

  • @AllisonCharlotte you can use it on nails if you want :) you roll it to make it small. I already have a video on pumpkin candu and somefruit candy where I showed how I packed and rolled them, that's why I chose to skip that in this one ^^

  • Do u just bake them in a cooking oven or wat? Also, where do u buy the polymer clay?Do you use these in nail art too?

  • @sunnysnsd1000 I only buy purchased canes for nails, and only use homemade ones for my clay projects :) I buy clay in local craft stores or online (danish) I use a regular oven yes :) the only thing you have to worry about is that if you use a glass tray to put your clay on when baking, you can't use that tray for food again

  • Can u make a video on how to cut canes? I always have this problem of cutting canes..

  • @Sugarsweet995 I don't think there's enough to show :/ I know you can find videos on youtube where they show to hold it in a special way and roll the cane while cutting, even if the cane is baked. but if I cut a baked cane I just place the blade close to the edge and press down

  • @SugarCharmShop hmm...ok. Thanks!! :D

  • You Are So Talented. What Do You Do With All Of It You Make ?

  • @darNCx3 nothing :) I make the miniature food and store it in a box. I also sell it but don't use it for anything myself.. well, I made myself a pizza ring ^^

  • Your canes or gorgeous.

  • @chelsiemalfoy Thanks a lot! ^^ I enjoy making them

  • Thank you so much this really helped!!! :) I have always wondered how to roll the strawberrycane thx so much! :)

  • @NingazPandaz you can also just squeeze the strawberry cane and never roll, but I prefer rolling to make sure it keeps the same shape ^^

  • whenever i make canes, the whole thing just squishes and the canes are deformed looking. does this mean my clay is too soft?

  • @penguincheesecake Before you start rolling make sure to press everything together (press it on the sides) that way everything piece will stick to eachother. if you're making something with a figure inside and then a background color it's important to pack it really well. make sure to fill out all holes and curves so it becomes a sturdy circle you can roll out to a cane

  • I'm a little confused about what size this should be since I don't have your finger to compare it to. Or does it not matter since you roll it out into a cane anyways?

  • @plumpkinpatch if you watch my pumpkin cane video you could get an idea of the size :) But it doesn't matter - the bugger you make it the more cane you can get out of it, but if you make it really big I suggest making it thicker as well ^^

  • I want to try :D how thick did you made the first pieces?! :O

  • @ninilollypop it varies, but usually I make them about 2-2,5cm thick :)

  • damn u're quick with the responses.

  • @GreyWolfEyes1222 I just uploaded, I'm online ;D I can might as well reply ^^

  • @SugarCharmShop lol.

  • ok, again i'm hungry. u gotta quit doing that! lol, j/k. keep up the great work!

  • @GreyWolfEyes1222 haha it's hard not to do it when that's what this channel is about xD Thank you! ^^

  • @ArtsAndCraftsLOVER 5 minutes :) then slice. I also have some unbaked ones

  • omg i failed sooo times, D: i wasted ALOT of clay LOL!

omg i want all your slices at the end :D

  • @TheJuicyLove08 hehe that was a very small portion of them ^^ I only sliced less than 1 of each cane, might do a giveaway with some different slices at some point, don't know :)

Whenever you make a cane remember to press it all together before you start roling, that helps. it also helps so you can see where you might need to pack on more clay to get the right shape

  • @SugarCharmShop yeah i was talking about the banana cane, but yes i squeeze the canes, im going to go try the yellowish green citrus cane, and omg can you do a giveaway soon? i AM A HUGE fan, usually famous youtubers dont reply to fans, but honestly ive watched you since DAY #1 let me tell you this: YOUR amazing at what you do. soo realistic.

  • @TheJuicyLove08 I already have a contest running ;) the giveaway won't be in the near future hehe :) I want to reply for as long as I'm able to, but I understand why the youtubers who get 1000+ comments a day don't reply to many of them ^^

  • @SugarCharmShop True, ohh yeah i totally forgot about that giveaway LOL!

  • @SugarCharmShop I agree, but hey looks like your commited to your subbies wich is a good thing.

  • @claymaker09 because after I add the play dough I pack the cane to make it circular so you can roll it like any other cane :) but it'll keep the shape in the middle. the play dough doesn't stick to the polymer clay and you can peel it off afterwards leaving just the strawberry shaped cane

  • Do you use these to your nails?

  • @TheStrawwwberry I only use purchased canes for my nails :) But for my clay projects I only use the ones I make myself

  • OMG THIS IS AMAZING <33

  • @Ninak98 Thank you so much! ^^ Glad you like it

  • can you please do a vid on how you store your clay and tools and how you keep it organized?

  • @popmygum1 I can do a post on it on my blog :) But I won't be posting a video about it

  • These will last forever!!

  • @Chihiro9977 yup :) I cut less than 1 of each and put them in the containers. and depending on the size you make the fruits and how thinly you roll them out you probably get 5-10 canes. sometimes even more ^^

  • @SugarCharmShop You are truly awesome' this could save so much money ^_^

  • @Chihiro9977 maybe ^^ I only use purchased ones for nails hehe but I feel like it's "cheating" using purchased canes for my clay projects so I prefer making them myself for those ^^

  • @SugarCharmShop Either way, your super talented and have great ideas ")

  • @Chihiro9977 Thank you so much (: I'm really glad you like my videos!
