The inconvenience of the design wasn't exactly what the airport was built with in mind. Actually, when it was being built, it would've been probably the most convenient design in the world. But, a few years after it was built, security checkpoints were mandated in airports and the design became not so good. Having just spent a ton of money building it a few years ago, the city didn't want to go through building another airport or remodeling the terminals.
@TheElevatorChannel Yeah, the airport could be a lot more successful if not for the security checkpoint. But, it's still in the top 30 busiest airports in the country.
Actually passengers and flight crews alike love MCI's design and the airport was ranked like the 5th LEAST miserable airport in the nation by CNN. Also, I wouldn't call the airport deserted, it is served by 11 airlines with service to 49 destinations in the U.S, Canada, and Mexico. There are at least 150 arrivals and 150 departures a day at MCI.
@Legitjet This airport has 90 gates. Last time I landed there, we taxied around the entire airport. I counted 11 planes at around 4 or 5 in the afternoon. That's not exactly busy. And everyone I have talked to about this rather odd airport has complained about the inconvenient gate setup, an architect that worked with my dad years ago even called it "the worst airport in the world, just a glorified hallway". Have you ever been there?
Yes I actually have been there. My father works there and it is one of my favorite hangout spots. I do agree there is one major problem about the way the terminal is designed. All the restaurants and restrooms are outside of security. But the security lines are fast, and you can go from the jetway to the curb in 1 minute. Also, I think it is a great thing that the terminals still aren't congested with the number of flights a day they have out of there.
@Legitjet I'm just not much of a fan of having no restaurants and a few overcrowded bathrooms past security. Also, the design can lead to some LONG walks if you need to get to a gate on the other side of the terminal, or a restaurant. The restaurants are also crammed into the narrow circular design, making them small and crowded. Don't get me wrong, the airport is kept up very well, I just don't care for the core design, and many people agree with me.
Yes, that's true about getting between the terminals as well as the sizes of the restaurants. I definitely agree with that. Well, great video and I look forward to many more.

@TheMrMyself Exactly, the concept was actually quite good without factoring in security. Park, walk a few hundred feet, and check in.

wow! what a smooth landing, not even a bump!

I take it, from your plane videos, that people no longer applaud the pilots for a safe landing anymore. I guess it was a 20'th century thing.
