In my opinion, racoon are friendly. They always try to avoid from cats but maybe cuz they're stealer so that's why cats don't like them as a friend. Maybe.
My pit bull Bella, saved my kitty. She loves cats, sleeps with them shit like that. One time two HUGEraccons cornered my cat, and Bella grabbed one by the neck and shook it to death, the other one she flung across the yard so hard it broke the fence. She's the best, and so sweet to everything, unless it try to hurt our cats ;)
My cat chased a really big male raccoon up a tree. I was scared because I'd heard of racoons being chased by 'coon dogs turning and really messing up a dog, but it was just a stand-off. I guess they can gauge the degree of threat.
RACCOONS DON'T CARRY RABIES!!! They are sometimes affected by rabies and can spread them when affected just like any other animal. If a raccoon is out in the daytime it doesn't mean it has rabies. Less than 1/2 of a percent of raccoons have rabies. When an animal gets rabies they are very ill and aren't actively looking for someone to bite. Most will lay down and die. The foaming out of the mouth Cujo is a myth.
The territory theory is bullshit! A raccoon is simply a more passive animal that will always back down from an adult cat. I have seen cats scratch and chase racoons and I never once saw a racoon chase or attack a cat. The racoon will run away at first scratch or hiss. I've seen scrawny alley cats chasing raccons twice their size.
I had a cat that was attacked by a coon right in front of our garage door. She was at the vet for a month, lost her front leg, had her facial bones shattered, and there is something called coon fever. She survived and lived for ten happy years, but I am no longer a fan of coons.
You can tell that the cat is not even the slightest bit in a defending/fighting mood. She's totally comfortable with the situation. Cat language is pretty easily learned so whoever felt that the cat was in any kind of jeopardy here - not to worry. She absolutely knows what she's doing
NO animal carries rabies. They either have it or they don't. Once exposed to rabies they are a danger to everything, including people. In order to carry a disease, the infected have to survive it and then transmit it. There are no survivors of rabies, therefore, no carriers. The only way to prevent it is by vaccination. Once symptoms manifest themselves, it is to late. No treatment is possible. This is true for people as well as animals. Rabies series must be started quickly if bitten.
good kitty! it did that because it knew that what it was protecting was it's source of food(the house and you guys)! pets aren't as stupid as we think they are! :))
Wow! Such a brave cat! It could have been bit by the raccons and start a life-death battle! Even though that racoon was scared of the cat, it could have had a deadly dieses! Well, i dont know........anyways good vid!
Cats and raccoons are smart. They won't get into any fights that might leave one of them dead and the other not much better off unless they have no other choice.
Raccoons are smart enough to know better NOT to mess with an exttremely versatile power package of nails and fangs that is even able to drive off an adult black bear.
My cat has attacked Raccoons at least three times that I've seen, and they run like a bat out of Hell when he does. They just don't have the agility to hope to cope with a cat.
Most predators ignore each other. There's no percentage in attacking something that can inflict serious damage on you. The exception are pack predators (lions, hyenas, wolves, etc..) They will attack and kill other predators as a way of removing competition (such kills are almost never eaten)
A Puma will kill anything it can get its paws on, including bears and wolves. Grisly bears will kill other bears and wolves. Don't want to see what happens when the two cross each other. But I'll give you a hint, Puma always wins. Why? Only needs one bit at the neck and it wins, because its teeth are designed like a fucking vampire to tear to flesh, but even more specifically to dislocate the spine, although it can just put at the wind pipe and rip it open.
The thing is Raccoons are very intelligent so if they learn how to fight well they will be skilled at it. But the intelligence also usually means they pick their battles. They generally won't actively hunt a cat because it will cost them some unnecessary pain. Also I have known cats that do win the battle (though can be in a bad way afterwards). When someone said "pound for pound", I would agree the fight can actually be pretty close. Usually the raccoon is larger when they kill cats or kittens.
yo i never seen a cat even get that close to a raccoon befor a raccoon will fuck a cat up i know that for sure becuse a cat cannot hurt a coon but a coon can kill a cat
pound for pound a cat will win??? you obviously have never been around a raccoon in your entire life!!! go watch your soaps and pet your lap cat you idiot!
That's sort of what I was thinking (except the soaps bit.) I've NEVER seen a raccoon turned away by a mere cat before. Shoot, I've never seen a dog beat a raccoon, either, for that matter.
Yeah but we're talking about a house cat not a meerkat. House cats are larger than meerkats. Ha, ha, okay I'm just messing with you I know what you meant but I couldn't resist.
@custer264 raccoons dont have claws or teeth they have razorblades for both... if a cat were ever to attack a raccoon, it would be the same as putting your cat in a nice sized paper shredder. raccoons dont fuck around...
Thank you for sharing this awesome footage, and also providing background information on this amazing creature.I just uploaded a humorous vid yesterday of the gang of raccoons who repeatedly raid my cats' dish everyday and night,I wanted to show them in a lighthearted humorous way, hope u love the vid I created.Thanx again!!! ^___^
Most animals are smart enough only to fight when they have to. They also understand territory, and only violate it when they're really hungry. Both cats and raccoons are well-equipped to cause injury if they want to, but usually, they don't want to.
I know for a FACT one of my cats would take these coons on...she's HELLA territorial. She's constantly beating up on the new kitten in the house...not sure the other two...they'd stand their ground for sure though
The raccoons came by ever so often. I think they were young siblings. The cat and raccoons were familiar with each other and very curious. Don't think they planned any fighting.
Bats are actually the leading carrier of rabies. Raccoons don't have rabies as often as people think they do. Its the fact that you're highly unlikely to see the HEALTHY raccoons in your area that makes people believe that rabid raccoons are in surplus.
Yes, best keep cats away form raccoons. Not only is rabies a danger, but racoons can be infected with the baylisascaris procyonis (racoon roundworm) parasite. Raccoons are immune to these parasites but in other species, these parasites can reside in the intestinal tract and migrate to other internal organs. They tend to attack the liver, eyes, spinal cord or the brain resulting in many symptoms, from eye and brain damage to severe neurological impairment and behavioral changes.
I wonder how fearless your Pitbull is against a Leopard. If you are going to compare your dog to a cat make sure it is on a size per size basis. the only difference between a housecat and a Tiger is its size. Same with dogs. No Dog could beat a Cat on a similar size basis.

So true. Plus the wild animal could easily have some form of rabies which cn infect your pet and later spread to your children and soon after turning the entire township into a raging flock of zombies! Duh! You should consider that sometime and stop being so darn selfish with your interesting videos and such. Geez
You know, all I can think is that people shouldn't be filming these things but going outside and getting their cat (or other animal) away from the racoon/fox/etc. Wild animals could have bacteria and diseases that could kill your animals. So, although this is "cute" it's also probably not a very good idea.
