  • Hey, we do have a lot of african influence and many other cultures. This is in the "caribbean" zone of Colombia, where a part of the slaves arrived a long time ago. But I actually think that even if the african influence helps, I think we like this music just because we like it. The people who brought this music to us in the early 70's weren't pure africans, at least the ones I know are not even latino-africans. But the music is nice and the beat is excellent.

  • We have som other places where the african influence is even stronger, but they don't listen to this kind of music. So it's actually weird but of course the african influence does play an important rolle.

  • cule bacile, me acuerdo yo haciendo lo mismo años atras.

  • I am so shocked to see people in columbia dancing to this sound.I bet the Nigerian artist-Bright Chimezie, whose music is being played by these Djs will never believe that his album got to Columbia. And to think that average Nigerian youths don't like being associated with these sort of sounds is sad.

  • Can we agree that no matter where in West Africa the music came from it is ours to cherish and respect?

  • EXACTAMENTE!! GRACIAS

  • bacano la champetaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • But whats funny is that this topic of "OUR HISTORIES BEING DISTORTED,THE NEED FOR IT TO BE CORRECTED, AND THE IGNORANCE OF OUR OWN PEOPLE" is one of the only areas where we and honest non-black historians actually agree. LOL! Ain't that somethin. Yes this is the diaspora but even there and in Africa as well as all over we need to KNOW the histories behind our culture, just because we all are the same doesn't mean its okay to be inaccurate about our histories.

  • Comment removed

  • There is nothing racist or offensive about telling the True origins of our music. And I think cursing someone is more hostile than simply telling the Truth. Soukous70 you seem backwards. I would tell the truth about anyone's culture and thats what we do! So I guess when you watch classical music and Chinese arts and they tell who started it and correct people who make distortions of their history, THEY'RE being offensive too! LOL! But you never tell them that do you just your own people. LOL!

  • Soukous70 YOU and everyone else here is missing the point. Its very interesting how you interpret everything here in terms of RACE. And no one ever said "MAKING FRIENDS" is negative nor am I trying to stress how "THIS IS OUR CULTURE FIRST". Even though it is. But its funny how you interpret something as simple as telling the origins of our culture as offensive. But its a typical response we've received, but usually the ones like you come around.

  • Comment removed

  • No offense, but seems like Instead of supporting your community, you'd rather sit back, and LET people distort our culture and history just to fit in "MAKE FRIENDS". So if you like the passive approach, go ahead, ME I choose not too, Im down for helping our communities, and so far the passive ones come around. BACKIND DOWN IS REALLY THE EUROPEAN THINKING. Im being pro-active to support our communities and change the slave mentality that SIMPLY speaking up to tell the TRUTH is taboo.

  • Soukous70 when Ive made mistakes in understanding cultures in Latin America, the Afro-Latinos were very quick to correct me, the same was true of Asians, Europeans, etc. I humbly listened and learned. Its not viewed as wrong when everyone else does it, So why would it be bad for Africans to do the same? I grew up respecting my roots so its first nature to talk about our culture no matter if its in Africa or the diaspora. Im supporting not dividing. Marvis seems like he/she is dividing.

  • Its not distorting the culture,THIS is the diaspora, this is how one culture evolves into many. Its not about saying "hey this was our music first",that is offensive to any culture. No,lotanna, yor delusion of figting a slave mentality is rascist and very conquistador in tone. How are your hostile comments helping your communities? its not,it just embarrases everyone.

  • RACISM= a belief that some races are by nature superior to others and discrimination based on such belief. LOL!

Thats what racism means. I don't think Africans are superior to Afro-Latinos nor did I discriminate against them. DUH! CUZ WE ARE THE SAME. Me simply commenting on the accurate history of our culture for those who don't know is something different. You use words and don't even know what they mean. I think your ignorance embarrases everyone rather. LOL!

  • So I guess WIKIPEDIA dictionary must be the most racist book out there cuz it comments on tons of histories and stresses who did what first. LOL! Also Marvis didn't comment on "how one culture evolves into many" he's commenting on its origins. The more you talk it just gets worse and worse. LOL! And Don't be quick to judge something as hostile that you can't hear. It can be interpreted as many different things. You sound like a typical white american.

  • Who's being racist now? Youre not hostile? Are you sure?Bah,anyway, keep taking a good message and mutilating it into something that drives people away.West africa is plagued by bloodiness based on "whats mine, that's mine",the rest of the world does not want that kind of deviseiveness, its hatred disguised as intellectualism.

  • LOL! "whats mine, thats mine" LOL! WOW! No one said that here. LOL! Its "OURS". Just make sure we understand our history right cuz there are organizations devoted to distorting it for a reason to deep to discuss here. Thats all.

  • By the way,I love yow you use the term "MAKE FRIENDS" as a negative thing. That speaks VOLUMES on how you think.

  • I know Colombia is a bit far from Africa and it may be hard for our people there to know where certain African musical forms come from and how they got started, but thats why AFRICANS are here to help you so that you CAN know. So that instead of just saying vaguely "this is AFRICAN MUSIC", now you actually are able to tell what country/tribe it comes from, b/cuz AFRICAN MUSIC HAS MANY, MANY, MANY DIFFERENT FORMS. Simply put.

  • Just because I say it is Nigerian doesn't mean you can't enjoy it because if you are Afro-Latino, WE ARE THE SAME! Stop dividing us!

  • Marvis24 I hope you don't think you know more about this music than I do, I am from Africa. Thats like if I tried to act like I know more about Colombian Cumbia, Vallenato etc. Where even though I CAN tell you what tribes the strong African elements within those forms come from, I am humble enough to know that there are details YOU could probably tell me that I didn't know since you may be directly from there. So just be humble and learn about YOUR music from Nigeria. GOSH!!!!

  • MUNDOCHAMPETA FROM COLOMBIA

  • Lotanna Shut the Fuck up Music belong to everyone not just Africans. SHUT THE FUCK UP

  • FOOL! Did I ever say music isn't to be enjoyed by everyone? Just because you acknowledge and perpetuate the origins of where things come from doesn't mean its not for others to enjoy stupid. Thats the mentality black people seem to have too much, so it becomes taboo to simply to say we are credited for something.

  • So don't worry, the music is original, and the artis "got his money" (if that's what you are worried about). The effects are added live, just to "innovate", that's actually what this guy with the white shirt does.

  • Good job!

  • This is the dilemma many African artists are facing now, it has nothing to do with race or whether humans are the same or not. Many of these artists have died and their families should be being paid for remakes of their songs, but are still poor because of people taking their songs and not saying where it comes from.

  • As it states in the title "more african music played in Colombia" if it comes from Nigeria, well that's quite difficult for us to know, because we don't live in Africa basically, but I tried to clarify, this music is obviously not from Colombia, and it's not an mp3 downloaded with some P2P program, the have the LP's because we have been listening to this music a long time, I would say 20 - 30 years

  • Just cuz we say where it comes from doesn't mean we don't view Afro-Colombians as our descendents & that you can't do it. Just be sure to do your job of making sure the world knows where it comes from so the hungry families who created these songs you're taking still get credited & paid for it. Because the world will try to tell you its not African soon since you wanted to change the name, then not tell where the songs come from.

  • Dont be silly,,man, these fine folks arent rich, and theyre DJ's,theyre not recording albums that illegally steal african music. Dont accuse them of failing to feed the origional artists, theyre DJ's,they owe no monetary obligation. They pay respect by simply playing the music

  • If they really are paying respect, then it shouldn't be a big deal just because we say what tribes it comes from. Plus there are plenty black inventions people enjoy today and pay no respect to us. So NO just listening to our music doens't mean we are respected. ARE YOU AWARE OF THE SITUATION OF OUR COMMUNITIES GLOBALLY? It doesn't seem like it.

  • Noone said we aren't the same, what does that have to do with anything? The key is to do a better job of telling where things come from. This world is a giant economy, and for people to feed their hungry families THEY need to get paid for what they produce. That won't happen if someone, takes their product, changes the name, and then doesn't tell its origins. Then soon you see someone like Shikira credited for it, and we suffer.

  • We are all humans! All the same!!!

  • So Im not attacking yall, but don't be blind to how the game works as Afro-Colombians if you really view yourselves as Africans. It wasn't until I told where this song came from that people even knew it was Nigerian from my country and my language IGBO. People always want to get all nervous & intimidated when it comes to saying a culture is African, No other culture seems to have this problem.

  • Hey, pero ve ve, qué petardo africano es el que está en vacile?? Nojoda, nos pillamos en los carnavales, la mae el que no vaya.

  • We gonna have to get use to this. Most of us aren't use to seeing the hispanics (non-african groups)in latin countries jumpin up and down to our music. It looks interesting to watch. Glad yall are enjoying our culture!

  • What do you mean by non-african groups? Anyone could seen that those are african-colombians.

  • These look like Hispanics to me even if they have some African blood in them. They look more spaniard then African. Any average person would categorize them as spaniard and not african-colombians.

  • What do you mean non african ? Colombians are like Brazilains we're a mix of black, white and indian. ans we'e all Colombian. Unlike here blank- American

  • Yes I know. Some colombians look black, just like us in africa, others look mulatto, and others like in this video look more spaniard. Its a melting pot.

  • Well I don't know what blank-American is suppose to mean--but, All of us here if we are black or descend from Africans, and live in the Americas whether, North or South are African Americans.

  • We colombians, and the rest of latin america, aren't picky about race as much because we are all mixed to an exent.I'm light skinned and seem more european descent looking but my brothers are way darker than me. I just watch the afro-colombian vids for the girls = ).

  • Perreo barranquillero.

  • Slaves brought to columbia actually brought our music to columbia among other countries and you will here african derived music and dance in those spanish speaking countries. Thats why they love our music in Africa soo much. But yea In Nigeria we love this song! Lingala (congo) music, cameroon music, and East Nigerian music sound similar. Not exactly the same, but similar.

  • The song in this video is actually a Nigerian song composed by an Igbo musician from nigeria by the name of Bright Chimezie. In Nigeria we call this music Nigerian highlife, it has its own distinct style from Ghana highlife, and plays more eastern nigerian sounds which sound more similar to what is played in cameroon. The artist is not speaking Lingala but Igbo. This song is called BIAKWA NURU ONUM.

  • cule vacileee

  • que sabor papa!!..saludos para mi Cartagena!! Ojala y sigan subiendo estos videos

  • lol, sounds a lot like Lingala!

  • actually it is, in Colombia they just add all these extra sounds that you hear in the background and they also talk a lot during the song saying hello to everyone.

  • Aha, hehe, so they don't actually dance to it much do they? I saw them attempting but they were dancing it more like dancehall reggae than lingala. It's interesting, never knew!

  • hehehe, yes they do dance it, but in a different way, you know Colombia is a bit far from Africa so is not that much we know about how people dance there this music, so I would say we developed our own way to dance your music (if you are from africa).

  • We sure would be uncordinated with your music too. I'm not from central africa, but we dance to Lingala too, been popular for decades there. Yes, I am African. You guys like Awilo Longomba?

  • yes, but the most of the people that like this music actually don't know about artists, just the songs, I'm in Europe right now so I have met som people from Africa and that's how I have learned about artists and that this kind of music is called Lingala in Africa, before I just liked the songs.

  • They have different names for different kinds of Linaga, I can hardly tell them apart. This is my most recent song that I like:
