  • I have a Trice TNT, I've had it up to 46.7MPH (or so says the GPS log). That was on a 17% downgrade that only lasted about a quarter of a mile. I recently rode down from Hurricaine Ridge on the olympic penninsula (Washington state). It was a faily consistent 7% downgrade and I maintained a speed of about 35mph the whole way. That was probably the most fun I've ever had on a wheeled vehicle. :-)

  • @ebaraschbmx only in tokyo.

  • what's holding the camera in some of these shots? is that an attachment?

    great vid by the way.

  • Trikes are nice rides! Great video! Went down a couple nice downhills while triking the entire norwegian coast. They have a smaller front area but I think the CV value is slightly higher. This means that you hardly ever will go faster than 75km/h, down hill on a trike. Recumbent bikes are mush faster depending on build.

  • Excellent work :o)

  • @ebaraschbmx i race a similar bike, did a qualifying session in the rain, was fun, came round a hairpin 90 degrees opposed to direction of travel, so yes. :)

  • ha ha you sped the film up by a fraction

  • you sped up the video feed. There is no way that the trike can go fast. Just look at the way you drink water. That is sped up at least by 250%.

  • I can see a lot of work went into this...nice one.

In answer to the question "Are trikes as fast as normal bikes" I would say on the flat yes they can be depending who is riding it. uphill no they are not. Downhill much faster.

The thing with a trike is that you can ride all day every day and not have aching legs, stiff arms or neck. They are built more for comfort than speed.

  • I had my Catrike Speed up to 42MPH yesterday on a ride.... Of course that was downhill :)

  • FAULTS:

    1) Hit the brakes at anything more than toddler speed and the bike ENDOS forward and scrapes the living hell out of the front sprocket and pedals.

    2) Brakes. One for the left and one for the right. Hit one more than the other and it rolls over like FIDO begging for a snack.

Good to OWN, horrible for rental purposes.

KMX recumbents are better, not perfect but solve the 2 issues above.

KMX rider height is too low for rental.

Wheels are 20/20 front and 24 rear. Should be 24/24, 26 rear

  • @PavePaws

KMX trikes are great but quite heavy.

Anyway i love the twin pull front brake separate rear brake for having fun on gravel tracks.

  • @tubybubi: Separate brakes for front and rear are key.

ive done that parking lot 180 spin on a KMX.

I go to INTERBIKE each year in Vegas and there are some silly trikes there.

One trike had, what I called, a TANK option. Flip a switch and the rear wheel pivots like a tank. I got dizzy sick! but for $2500, I left it at the show.

KMX was okay but too low for my rental customers.

I was able to go under parking gates and 18 wheelers but wheels that small make it a tiring distance vehicle.

  • great quality video. I would of thought that the vibrations would of make it unwatchable with the camera being on a boom like that

  • I want one of those.....

  • Which is average speed cruising this video.?

    Very good

    Ruben

  • great video, I was thinking of doing something simular for a scooter video a while back but I was concerned about vibration. Doesn't look lke you have any issues with that in your filming

  • Now I know why they call them balloon pants! Us 'bent riders need our own wardrobe like the uprights! Great video!

  • Hey, Great Vid. This has got me thinking about one of these instead of a reg. two wheeled commuter... How do you go on bike paths being so wide? Do you get much negative attention from boneheads while riding it around? They tend to stand out somewhat! Also, how is the uphill riding, going feet first!!!! Looks awesome though mate, love it.

  • Just got one (RecumbentUSA trike X) a couple of weeks ago, and I love it. Very comfortable. Doesn't need much more room vs. std bike (about 32" wide at the front wheels). I do get some stares, which I don't mind. Uphill riding is fine, just go slow in low gears. Highly recommended, especially for folks with back problems (me!) who can't tolerate standard bike positioning for long. Also much easier on hands.

  • Wooooow! Cool video! *****

  • Just one word......

    Weeeeeeeeee....

  • I really like how you show trike works and surely make a lot people want to try out one. I have Catrike myself and love it already. I would like to know how do you do with pole mount set up with camera? Keep up good work!

  • Yes, on gravel or wet road, lean into corner and forwards to get rear wheel loose and control under/over steer with weight shift forward/ backward. You can also brake the wheel on the inside of the corner to start drift or flick trike 180 degrees. Fishtail on gravel by leaning forward and wiggle bum left and right. Start carefully, cautiously and slowly till you get the feel of it as you may hurt yourself seriously if you crash and always keep your centre of gravity within the stability triangle

  • Are those things natrually faster than a two wheel bike?

  • In some circumstances yes, in others no.

  • @zevn7tp in most cases no... downhill and into the wind maybe. But it feels faster cause you are so low.... and they are a blast too ride!

  • @zevn7tp of course

  • @zevn7tp As in if you come across any defect in the road you have to slow down. You won't be able to get around traffic as well. Traffic might not see you so you may not make it to where your going. And you cant really go off road. Just depends what you want to put up with in order to be comfier.

  • @gman1990nodrog Yes, sorta. Tadpoles can be tippy if pushing hard without learning how. Like bikes, offroad needs a different machine. Also like bikes, drive like you're invisible and you survive ... only more so. I'm an old guy so getting strain off the wrists and butt is a very good thing.

  • I've got one myself. A Catrike.

    WAY FUN.

So far it's been up to 43 MPH. At that speed I feel very much alive. Interesting thing is that the wheels act like flywheels;the faster you go the more stable it feels. At least, to me it does. Never had a problem at high speeds.

Nice boom setup. I like the fact that you matched the color. I have some aluminum bars that I created for mine that I am going to match color. Powder coating.

    Rock on !

  • Man with the name of the video i was expecting you to do some 360's or at least a few jumps but all you did was ride around on a paved path and in a parking lot.

  • mountain bikes are for jumps NOT trikes... too delicate.

  • @plutoplatters depends on your trike! I think I would hurt my body before my trike would give up.

  • Sorry. I have not yet got around to doing a stunt video. Too busy building trikes and I feel a little dubious about providing an incentive for people to try things that are dangerous if you have not built up the skills carefully and gradually. That said, you can do plenty of fun stuff on a trike but plutoplatters is right; big jumps are not advised.

  • It doesn't look like you could... there's no brake to the rear wheel, only the front ones.

  • brake only one of the front ones

  • That would be easy. Find an icy lake somewhere or sneak into Ice skating rink.

  • So, do you get speeds comparable to a upright bike on your trike? And what's it like downhill? I've heard that bents are killer fast on descents.

  • Yes, speeds are comparable and downhills are really fun, much less braking into corners required. If you lean you slide rather than fall (as you would on a bike) and you can control under/oversteer by shifting your weight forwards and backwards.

  • Thanks for the reply. How is your trike geared? standard triple set up? I was looking at getting one with a Schlumph (sp?) high speed drive but the cost is prohibitive. And I'm a bit nervous about running out of high gear with a 20" rear wheel.

  • Wow - neat trike. Great video.

  • GREAT video!

I'm very interested in your boom setup. Would you share details about it? I'd love to put something like it together for my own use.

  • Seriously, those camera angles really make this video see more like a commercial!! Love it!!!

  • Well done, nice boom for the camera.

  • whoooooooowheeeeeeeee!!!

  • how cool is that :P

  • What a fabulous video! Full marks on everything. Superb!

  • great video, great editing...it gives me some new ideas for my next filming session....

  • One question... Do you build it or do you buy it where???

    I gotta have one

  • I want one of those sooo bad!! Great video, thanks.

  • Great filming and editing! Love the creative ways you showed off the trike!

  • What a superbly crafted video. Great editing and clever boom shots. I'm also another person who was motivated to get a trike from viewing this video. Just a Taiwanese clone not a killer Greenspeed like you have. It really is as fun as it looks!

  • I love this clip, very creative camera angles!!! well done +++. This clip was the inspiration for my recumbent bike videos.

  • Nice creative video. Keep em coming.

  • Awesome video, thanks. We'd love some more.

  • well done !

  • This is great PR for trike riding. Like mentioned, great camera work, and really shows how fun these things are.

I have two, and rarely ride my road bike anymore.

  • Thanks for the post. I've been thinking about getting one... looked into adult trikes but they don't seem much fun. The recumbents look more fun but the only local one I've found (in Toronto) is a Triton and the video of it doesn't look so comfortable. I found another model but it's $1800.... way beyond what I can pay right now.

  • Cool, I got the same model, Greenspeed GTO.

    It is awesome.

  • awesome video, montage was done very very nicely, specially the gearshifting.

    mad props!

  • Excellent, answered some questions I had about trikes. Thank you!

  • Very nice production

  • Absolutely wonderful job of producing this vid. I got goosebumps watching it, and I want a trike even more now than before!!!

  • this vid made me buy a trike albeit a catrike speed!! Awsome

  • Best Trike video I have seen.

"Boom shots" show dynamic angles and body-leaning like no other, snappy edits, energetic soundtrack, not too long.

High praise from a critical guy like me, can't wait for the next one.

  • Great product, very evocative with appropriate sound track -- we thought the credits could have lasted longer!

  • Excellent Video. What a great idea with the boom.
