I'm the driver for my college FSAE. Powderballz is right. look past the corners and you will do fine. If you're college equips TC or ABS or stuff like that, It's even easier. If they dont, you just have to drive your car a little more to get used to it. Seriously a monkey can do it.
It's a lot easier than most people think. Driving a FSAE car basically boils down to looking ahead, not being stupid, and thinking as little as possible. If you can do those three things you can competitively drive one of these cars.
This is just my opinion, but the better the car the easier it is for the driver to go fast. It's just like current day F1 cars vs. F1 cars from the 70's, with all the technology and software applications and compiled engineering knowledge that goes into current F1 cars, all the driver really has to do is control the car. Whereas back in the 70's the driver actually needed to drive the car.
I think it depends on the FSAE car. Of course there is a lot of variation in the cars and some are easier to drive quickly than others. Not all of the fast cars are easy to drive and not all of the easy cars are fast. It seems that in some circumstances, an average driver with a lot of seat time can be competitive, but it would still probably take a lot of skill and practice to get close to the limit of the car.
This track looks like it would be amazingly fun to drive!

That's.....doing a lot of simplifying.... It actually becomes very to extract the maximum from the cars. Especially the top tier level cars.
