The RS4 owns the M5 but its a tuned RS4 with something like 600 bhp compared to the 400 bhp of the E39 M5.

The RS4 didn't kick the BMW's ass. the 2 times he pulled away was in the begining when they went thru the cars the RS4 cleared them and was on the gas by the time the M5 had made it around them. The second time was when the both got an opening and the M5 didn't down shift it instead he lugged it. M5 and RS4 are close in performance but the M5 has a better top end.
