That looks great every thing down to felt detail makes it all come together nice. on thing that would be great for your one handed test on removal. If you could make the plug and lead set up that plugs into the ipad, into something like a flick slider switch on the face of the dash. So all it would take is to slide the pad in then flick the switch slidder across and away you go.. Love your work they all look pretty good.

I dont know if you ever got optical out working but i had a unique idea. I'm not sure if you need to be jailbroken but via the USB Camera connection kit you could plugin a USB Optical out device and possibly get optical out that way. People have had success getting audio out to USB headphones this way. Send me a private message for more details.

I know you can connect your iPad to your regular receiver with a usb, so would it be possible to do so and hide your receiver somewhere like the glove box and you can get the digital quality that way without the expensive bit one? And if so than is there a unit that can give you volume control separate of your receiver? That would make it more affordable and simple, thank you.

Perfect use for the iPad.

An idea for night vision - You could mount 2 x IP network cameras with infra red (night vision 30m range) in the front bumper where the fog lams are and stream the video feed over wifi to safari on the iPad...? not sure what use it would have but could be cool. This could also be a reversing camera setup with the camera at the rear and the bookmarked icon on the home screen.

@soundmancaraudio Highly recommend "Eye See U" for IP cameras over iDevices. Would work fine with the setup suggested by Jarrah, but with a single camera.

Wouldn't hurt having a 'fog cam' on the front of the unit as well as a back-up cam on the back, as the Eye See U main screen has a live-view of all added webcams - you'd not even need to select the back-up camera to see what's going on with it.

...can see smashed insects being a problem for a fog cam, though.

@mitsypoo I'm pretty sure if you get the 3G one, Google Maps can be used. I know for the iPhone, Tom-Tom and I believe Garmin had their own GPS App. I can imagine that its the same thing for the iPad as well, so long as it has 3G

The iPad has support for USB soundcards over that Camera Connection Kit perhaps there is a Methode to get the iPad charging and give it a usb out. I tested it with a good usb card and had way better soundquality also

Would it have been easier to take a deck with an AUX in and hide it behind somehwere in the dash, use the headphone jack on the ipad, and just rig power to it (say from the cigarette lighter). That way all your controls are on the ipad itself?

If you use the iPad dock as your stereo out you'll lose the option to run a mic from the iPad and use it to answer calls via Skype... Check my video to see what I'm talkin about... You'll have to go from the iPad with a 4pole cable to a mic... from mic to stereo cable... into your amp... With the new iPhone 4.0 on the iPad you will be able to run Skype in the background and receive calls... A much better iPad experience in your Taco...
