i remember once when i was very young, i found a small bird on the sidewalk that was barely alive, it seemed as if it had feel from its nest and was abandoned and left to die by whatever put it there. I brought it home and set up a small makeshift nest and a desk light to try and serve as heat. I sat by the bird all night trying to nurse it back to health, The vet was closed until the next morning. Somewhere throughout the night the bird died. In someway i feel that relate to this scene the most
This is so fascinating, and the creature is a really great springboard for a lot of good ideas. I also think it symbolizes how all human babies really are. They're weak, helpless, and ignorant about how the world around them really works. The limblessness and bandaging symbolize the weakness & helplessness very nicely.
At about 2:55, he should go pick up the thing and then drop it headfirst into the big pot of soup you can hear boiling. After he folds it into the water like a bunch of spaghetti, he should start cutting up onions.
Sure it's sick, but it's not THAT sick. It's still good to eat if cooked thoroughly.
@Konekoi That's part of what gives this film such emotional impact. Naturally, we're stricken by the baby, but it's not just a monster. It IS still a baby, I love it and sympathize with it, even though I'm genuinely disturbed by it.
Yes, if you're used to Hollywood lineal movies, full of cliches and with a plot, this can be boring for you but keep your mind open and maybe one day you will enjoy this kind of stuff.
I feel the strangest form of sympathy for the little thing...and yet, when I do, I can feel the walls within my house bend and twist...What the hell?!
I would have thrown that thing in a dumpster! Maybe he was holding on to a small shred of hope that it would grow up and play football at Michagan State.
Best guess, the head is attached to a puppeteer's hand or some other control stick through the other end of the pillow, which is rotated to make the baby's head move any which way.
I love David Lynch's films, but this one makes me feel horribly bad, because the atmosphera is black and I can't fell it in any other way... I think it's so painful, perhaps it may be not necessary, but it makes sense.
This is why I don't want kids.

This looks like an extremely boring movie. The man acts like some sort of anal-retentive deaf mute with the personality of a piece of stale bread.

Someone told me that the 'baby' was actually a real cow foetus...
chips858 1 year ago
@chips858 i'm not sure about that. it could be true, though. lynch used real animal organs on the set of the film IIRC so its not to absurd a notion.
