It's unfortunate that rocket Engineer Sergey Korolyov was not in the top twelve. Korolyov was responsible for the Soviet space program that put the first man made object (Sputnik) in orbit and the first person (Yuri Gagarin) in space. If he hadn't died in early 1966 the Soviets might have landed on the moon before the United States. During his life Korolyov's incredible achievements were never recognized.
