To be precise He's an Archangel! There are 9 choirs of "Angels". 1 of which is "Archangel" which Micheal is! This is Catholic/Christian teaching and is also most Protestant teaching. I dont know what teaching your referring to? This teaching comes from the Bible. I know Mormons and Jehovah's believe different that's why there not Christian.

Michael pronounced(Mi K I el) is Hebrew for "Who is like God" This is both a question and a Statement. ?! There can only be one answer. Jesus Christ. Also the term Arch simply means "Head" or "Chief". As we know Jesus is the Lord of Hosts, (Lord of Angels). So it is understood that He is also the Chief or Head over all angels. Michael The Archangel. Also he has the same description in Daniel's Ch. 9 & 10 as well as in Revelations 1 & 2.
