I was shocked people put same human beings in that room and ask them to work so hard...

I used to be pro-PAP, but since the 1990s they have becoming increasingly right-wing and have chipped away at the basic social security structures that people rely on. HDB has becoming more like a private developer than a government institution to ensure the housing needs of it's citizens are met, and provision of HDB rental arrangements has become inadequate. Most of all though, provision for unemployment is wholly inadequate, and downright shameful.

Just come back from Singapore. Very beautiful and clean place. The people I talked to told me they earn S$1,700.00 a month. Not a great deal but they seem to manage and food is quite cheap if you know where to eat. Considering the country has no natural resources it's a top notch effort. If it was more `democratic' things would probably be a lot worse. Having a strong leader at the top does have its advantages considering the democratic sham we have in Australia.
Those who dislike this has no heart. The homeless and poor people are working very hard to earn some money for them and their family, they went to the streets to beg for money, people may think going to the streets begging for money is shameful, but they have no money for their surgery or for food such, so they have to choice but to beg! I felt dam sad, every time when i saw beggars on the street, I would give them free money, they even said thank you politely, yet, lots of people are ignoring.

In every country there are poor and rich. The pictures you shown are the people who refuses to get help from service community. Some are homeless because they dont want to stay with their family. Some just didnt know where to get help because they are alone and old. That is why we have alot of communities volunteers going around helping the poor and old. Having a high shifting population , Singapore is facing a homeland identity crisis. Instead of comparing to other developed nations and the how its ok to let a small percentage trickle down, singapore needs to treat the people of its land with better, more comprehensive love and care especially since the people are thier only resource. A very small annual contribution from GIS or Temask will greatly help. As a citizen and thus a shareholder of these govt companies please increase contribution.

I have many local friends and they are very nice and lovely people.
But this country is so controlled and I do not feel any freedom.
Real natures are kept destroying and most of garden/greens areas are artificial.
River, water reservoir and some road and area smell soooooo bad and feel the contamination.
If you go to beach early in the morning, it filled with rubbish and soooo dirty.
There are no respect for nature here....people are not educated in that manner but chase money.

I traveled 16 countries and lived in Singapore 3.5 years.
I found this country ignore especially the LOCAL and BASIC NEEDS.
Government FORCED and created so much MONEY based social system which destroying the family value and creating such a discrimination between races.
All dirty/hard/hated work are done by poor or more poor countries workers who has no skill and no responsibilities.
And people are so afraid to raise voice since they are told they will be put in jail if they do.

I used to be pro-PAP, but since the 1990s they have becoming increasingly right-wing and have chipped away at the basic social security structures that people rely on. HDB has becoming more like a private developer than a government institution to ensure the housing needs of it's citizens are met, and provision of HDB rental arrangements has become inadequate. Most of all though, provision for unemployment is wholly inadequate, and downright shameful.

Just come back from Singapore. Very beautiful and clean place. The people I talked to told me they earn S$1,700.00 a month. Not a great deal but they seem to manage and food is quite cheap if you know where to eat. Considering the country has no natural resources it's a top notch effort. If it was more `democratic' things would probably be a lot worse. Having a strong leader at the top does have its advantages considering the democratic sham we have in Australia.

The homeless and poor people are working very hard to earn some money for them and their family, they went to the streets to beg for money, people may think going to the streets begging for money is shameful, but they have no money for their surgery or for food such, so they have to choice but to beg! I felt dam sad, every time when i saw beggars on the street, I would give them free money, they even said thank you politely, yet, lots of people are ignoring.

i don't know but i can imagine how easy it is to be rendered homeless if one lost their job. i lost my job and was forced to immediately return to my home country because my basic salary of 1700 didn't leave me very much savings at all. sure i guess it was my f&^%iN fault that i decided to rent a room for myself? a little cost for food here, a little accounting for bills there and a smodgin of travel fares and a small mishap with my job and ~ voila! no more room!

Some just didnt know where to get help because they are alone and old. That is why we have alot of communities volunteers going around helping the poor and old. Having a high shifting population , Singapore is facing a homeland identity crisis. Instead of comparing to other developed nations and the how its ok to let a small percentage trickle down, singapore needs to treat the people of its land with better, more comprehensive love and care especially since the people are thier only resource. this video is trying to tell u, if you are a Singaporean and if u grow old, u will be like this. Honestly, I am a Singaporean and i can tell u, once u r old, u will be poor and helpless. The government does not provide welfare for the old, you only use the very little of what u have in your CPF

@liangjun24 good one. finally a singaporean who can accept or see the fact. the singapore government exploit you people when you were still young. they want you to work as hard as possible and then extract all ur juices out from u. once u r out of juice to squeeze( literally means when u get old) the government no longer have any interest on you. they will just toss u aside and give u ur cpf fund which had been partially "taxed" by the sg government.

this video is posted in year 2007 but theres still lots of homeless people out there now who still hoping for miracles even tho they know it wont happen but they also seek happiness they also seek a better life. @AshydXc If you are a singaporean and you dont want to end up like those people in this video, i suggest you study hard when you were young and then get a good job with good salary. or better still migrate to australia or other country. because in the near future, singapore is going to get more and more expensive just to live there. the gap between the rich and the poor will expand more and more. eventually the poor simply cant afford to live anymore and are forced to die somewhere.

.....and yes, some of them sleep at the void deck to avoid going home because of crisis at home, but still goes to work in the morning and bathe at workplace. can u see the clothes that the "poor people" are wearing? so my question is, is the vidoe maker targetting to resolve the problem or actually expressing his dissatisfaction against certain rulers?

in SG, we ALL should have homes, if we live accordingly within our means and not taking high risks or be greedy to make big money, yet failed. before we all jump into conclusion abt those featured in the video, it's wise that we go down to the ground first and find out ourselves. the info in this video is blown out of proportion and can be a threat to harmony. if the leaders are being the target, i don't care. but this info is definitely incorrect.

some are just drunkards. some are greedy fellas who rent out their homes to illegal immigrants and got their flats confiscated. some slept at the void deck to study and fell asleep. some sleep at the void deck because they didn't plan their lives accordingly. some are begging foreigners with syndicates behind them. yet, u can see them returning again and again. have u checked their passports and ICs? in other words, they have their own reasons or problems caused by themselves.

some are foreigners waiting for their court hearings with MOM and their former employer. some are gamblers or business people who lost a lot of money in their greed to make BIG MONEY. some are divorced cases that their family members had chased them out. some of them were street gangsters and drug addicts who, after release from prisons, are not accepted by their families.

i am not a politician nor am i a supporter of any political party. but looking at this video, i think that the maker has his own hidden agenda. these people featured in the videos are not reported correctly. some of them are actually working as cleaners and some who are collecting cardboards and looking into bins for recycling are also working. they have homes! those sleeping at the void decks are there for a few reasons.

it has been 7 months since I ORD but the bitterness, rage and hatred I felt from National Service did not a bit fade away. these negative feelings get amplified each time when
1) I hear PAP Ministers and MPs claim how much they "sacrificed" for the Nation(only to be remunerated with ridiculous paycheck)
2) I see foreigners outnumbering Singaporeans in any places be it public transport or a restaurant.

actually, singapore is entering the business era to hold the asian economy to be on par with japan and south korea.. but.. will singaporeans create privatised multi national corporations? its up to us the younger generations.. or else we will be fighting for jobs amongst the foreigners..
