The board is a neat trick. When doing roots for straightening hair they should use that. One could put the board in with a protective paper say two inches up the board if that how much the hair has grown out and needs to be permed. Then paste the previously processed hair to the paper with honey or some kind of base, fold the paper over so the ends meet and leave the two inches ready for the touch up. Do it all over the head and then apply the perm. It will prevent overlap.
