I know there is a reason why the same actor played both roles, they are strictly linked, but for what they represent, not for being the same person.

In my opinion, those who don´t understand what johnny is doing here, or why he does it, have no idea about his true art of acting, even if they usually call themselves fans. All of his characters are played very deeply instead of just superficially, even (or maybe especially) the weird ones, like for example willy wonka in charlie and the chocolate factory.
