  • i had to do this scene with my friend for drama. god this shit was hard to memorize

  • Described by my teacher: "This movie is about the adventures of Rozencrantz and Guilderstern outside the action of the play Hamlet, where they do...basically nothing."

  • I love this movie

  • This is a "judicious" video. =p

  • Thanks Lunaaaa711 for the rules, that was our Homework :DD

  • This video went viral on Tanzania

  • can someone explain why is it "1-love", what does love have to do with it? is it some expression connected to the game or just random?

  • @JinJinDoe In this context Love means 0 or nil. So 1 Love basically means he's scored a point and his opponent hasn't like 1 nil in football. I think it's originally a term used in tennis but I'm not sure of it's origin. Hope this helps.

  • They found a way to make "Just A Minute" even harder. Don't tell Nicholas Parsons.

  • Completely forgot about this movie. This is definitely one of the best scenes.

  • :D Gary Oldman is my favorite actor ever and besides him as Sirius Black, this is my second fav character that he plays!

  • I see how Timon and Pumbaa are based of these two.

  • Dieing of laughter right now.

    ...ironic

  • I'd love to see these two work together again.

  • oldman looking so young

  • gary oldman + tim roth = epic win!

  • I love Gary Oldman <3 ^^

  • At 0:45, Oldman reminds me of somone in another movie in the same pose and with the same look on his face. But I don't know who it could be. Damn!

  • @LamarianJoker

Is it something involving Johnny Depp or Heath Ledger, perhaps?

  • @LamarianJoker Eric Bana in Chopper.

  • Gary Oldman is drop dead GORGEOUS in this movie <3 gaaaah I love him and how he plays Rozencrantz. I enjoyed reading the play in school and I thoroughly enjoyed the film. Tom Stoppard is a genius.

  • GENIUS. Gary olman is my love

  • There are most other writers, and then there is Tom Stoppard. Respect.

  • I love how tim flashes a quick smile after "hesitation. Love-One"

  • I love how Gary gets all flustered like a child. "I'm not going to play if you're going to be like that." How cute. ^_^

  • is THIS where "whose line is it anyway" got the idea of the "questions only" game?

  • "We can do rape... rapiers... or both."

  • I am quite in love with Tim Roth and his amazing talent.

but honestly, Tim Roth AND Gary Oldman? How much more brilliant could this scene be with these two amazingly gifted actors.

  • Oldman is SEXY cute ♥

  • Tim Roth, you're amazing.

  • So to make the list a bit easier, let's see if I understand it now, it's:

    1. No statements

    2. No repetition

    3. No hesitation

    4. No synonyms

    5. No rhetorical questions

    6. No non-sequitur (question not relating to the current topic)

  • Thumbs up for Gary's oh so sexy pout @ 0:43!!!!

  • I was watching an interview with Tim Roth about how he and Gary really wanted to play R + G in the Hamlet movie with Mel Gibson and I go so incredibly excited at the possibility and then so incredibly disappointed at the realization that it would never happen.

  • holy sh*t! thats Tim Roth!

  • I love Gary Oldman, but I think Tim Roth is a total hotty in this movie!

  • still my favorite Gary Oldman movie. :)

  • I luv this. I have to prepare a scene from this play/movie for theater class. Me and my friend have to do the coin scene. I love how they talk. Like professional actors, they don't hesistate with their lines. They keep the pace going. However, this is an edited film.

  • game and match... match... match

  • Cal Lightman vs Sirius Black. Aw man, that's a difficult choice.

  • When Gary Oldman said, "Are you serious?" I expected the other dude to say, "No, but you are." Because... he's Sirius Black...

  • I had no idea what was going on when I first saw this in the movie....but I do now. LOL

  • This is my favourite scene. ^_^

  • reminded me of whose line is it anyway? lol

  • 1:44 reminds me of Dr. Lightman...

  • this is totally my favorite scene!!!!!

  • Next time I am at a tennis court, I'm playing this.

  • @Anonymoose123456789 it's a badminton court

  • 4 people don't know what real comedy is.

Dude, I love this movie! Loved the play, loved the movie version with Kenneth Branagh, and loved this!! Didn't read the play for this movie yet though.

    It is so funny!

  • Kool I wanna play that game.

  • @Scifiwriteguy interesting since I don't believe either the movie or the original play ever clarifies exactly which character is Rosencrantz and which is Guildenstern.

  • 1:16 Are you Sirius? :-)

  • Comment removed

  • Absolutely brilliant! Game of words that is far more intense than any Michael Bay explosion-filed excuse for a movie!

  • Heads.

  • They are looking really young..I remember that movie when I was like 10 :o..I loved it !! :D And I still do. It's one of my favorite movie..I love Gary Oldman and Tim Roth. More and more everytime I watch something new with them :D.

I recently start to watch Lie To Me with Tim Roth..it's not bad :).

    Anyway, LOVE THAT MOVIE :D.

  • i love this movie and all of its little meanings

  • Why haven't I heard of this???? Oh my.... Love it already!!!

  • Would anyone care to play at Questions?

  • @obiwanobiwan13

Are you asking the community in general?

  • @waketherabble Would you be part of that community?

  • @obiwanobiwan13 What good would that do?

  • @mcihcrhiasel

    Are we discussing utilitarianism now?

  • @waketherabble What is utilitarianism?

  • @obiwanobiwan13 I would, it's a fun game.

  • I love this part of the movie.

  • Erbets a dick

  • @imhallowarren i know...what rating did ebert give this film? zero stars...

Man, Oldman and Roth were quite the studs back in the day...and I daresay, for their age, right now, they're not too bad looking at all...

  • It is amazing to look at these two brilliant actors play such sweet and adorable characters and than turn around and play psychotic killers. These two are amazing! And really hot.

  • I love @ 1:18 when Gary asked "Are you Sirus?" Or what is serious? All I can think of is "Aren't you?!"

  • eu o amo.

  • I'd love to memorise this with someone and take a load of people by surprise hehe

  • @misspratchettfan It's doable on improv. Whose Line is It Anyway has a game called "Only Questions" which is the same basic idea. I played it with the roommates. You can get a few decent volleys through with a little practice.

  • this is one of the movies Gary Oldman looks his hottest in!

  • Bril.

  • No, it's Tim Roth that's hot.

  • Hmm! I go all weepy every time I watch this! - Is it language which separates us from the beasts of the forest? RHETORIC! Game, set and match!!

  • Awesome! Would love to play this with someone but would never win, I can't think that fast :p

  • my last name is this :)

  • Oh my god I love Tim Roth!!!!

  • She's all my fancy painted him, I make no idle boast. If you or he had lost a limb, which would have suffered most?

  • hahahaha, what a brilliant scene

  • @Ilikenuman

    Statement 1-0

  • That little hop Rosencrantz does at the end gets me every time! Like he's trying to see out of that window way up there, lol.

  • Where did you get this? I've been trying to find the dvd for ages!

  • @AstridOlga It's on Amazon. :]

  • 1:16 "Are you Serious?" No, YOU are. Boy you're confused

  • Gary and Tim were so cute in that movie =)

  • this game really is hard. The longest i've gone is only a few minutes straight but i've seen people do it for fifteen minutes

  • I would love to play this game...

  • the vladmir character is supposed to be taller

  • Wrong play!

  • Oh wow, this is a game we play in my Drama class, as a sort of warm-up! I wonder if the teacher got it from here? haha this was brilliant though. Gary is so handsome :)

  • Best scene in the film...absolutely brilliant :-)

You should try playing this game....it;s really hard, seriously.

Also, Gary is super hot in this.....like a young Sirius Black would be like.....and he is super adorable in this scene, don't you think?

  • @ecco1983 You really think so?

  • Lol Isn't this a game from Whose Line Is It Anyway?

  • answer every question with another question. The game ends/ someone gets a point if someone:

    1.) makes a statement

2.) makes a rhetorical question (Ex: how stupid are you?)

3.) repeats a question or says a question synonymous to a previous question

4.) ask a question not relating to the current topic (non-sequitur)

  • 5.) if someone hesitates (length of time is up to your digression)

  • @nenya123 they can't grunt either

  • @nenya123 and if they hesistate =P Just thought I'd add to it, not trying to mock you or anything

  • @nenya123 + 5) hesitation :)

  • @nenya123 or hesitate

  • @nenya123 HESITATION!

  • @nenya123 Thanks, I had rly big problems explaining it to my friends, because I myself didn't know the rules that well.

  • @nenya123 you forgot hesitation mate

  • @nenya123 or hesitates to ask next question

  • How do you play this game?

  • @pwnageprata who me?

  • How do you want to play it?

  • How long would you like to?

  • LOVE GARY OLDMAN by the way...best actor ever!!!!!!!!!!!

  • My husband and I play this from time to time and it is soooo much fun.....

  • gordon!

  • ROSENCRANTZ= SIRIUS BLACK

  • @jennapher611

    ROSENCRANRZ=SIRIUS BLACK= DRACULA= HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!

  • I think when they are standing in their positions they are playing questions, and when they leave their positions (ie walking up to the net, leaving the court) they actually are wondering about what they ask.

  • Love this film!! Gary and Tim are sooo good together, I think Tim should've been chosen to play Lupin in the HP movies...would've been nice to see these two together again. I play this game all the time with my friends.

I did the Player's monologue (at Ros and Guil) for a theatre final. Got an A. =)

  • yey.. can u believe he rejected Snape's rol?

Damn what a hot teacher he would've been...evil..but hoot XD

  • Oh yeaahh he's hot !!!! ;D

    gary rocks !!!

  • -Was that rhetoric?

    -NO!

    Gary makes me giggle!

  • Brilliant! I love this sequence.

  • AHAHHAHAH are you Sirius?

  • i love this film so much! one of my favourites scenes of all time =)

  • damnit i love this scene!

  • lmao! I love this movie!

"You would think THIS would fall faster...than this...wouldn't you!.....And you would be absolutely right!"

  • Haha dude, that's the best part!

  • LOVE this movie, my favourite scene =]

  • Niice, love this film, and this scene is awesome :D

  • Holy shit Oldman and Roth look young... and hot. hehe

  • those were the days

  • Just watched this in english and is one of the funniest things i have seen in ages! Gary oldman in this reminds me soo much of Andrew lee potts and Connor temple....

  • I just did a Drama assignment on this play- it's a scream, and so is the movie! Tom Stoppard is a genius

  • indeed.

  • 1:41 and 1:47

Repetition! . . . But Guildenstern doesn't call him on it.

  • It's not the same question, even if it contains some of the same words.

  • It's the same. Both times he says "What's yours?"

    G: What's your name?

    R: What's yours? <---

    G: You first.

    R: Statement! 1 - love

G: What's your name when you're at home?

    R: What's yours? <---

    G: When I'm at home? . . .

If you click on the 1:47 link in my last comment it takes you to the point right after he says it the second time instead of right before it. I should have posted 1:46 or 1:45 or something, but if you watch the clip, Rosencrantz does repeat himself.

  • Doesn't count. It's not the same game. After "statement! 1- love" a new game started.

You CAN repeat from other games. Otherwise you'd never be able to say "What?".

  • Guildenstern's repetition isn't in the same game either:

    G: What's your name? <-- G#1

    R: What's yours? <--R-#1

    G: You first.

    R: Statement! 1 - love!

    -end game-

  • (continued) -new game- G: What's your name when you're at home? R: What's yours? <--R#2 G: When I'm at home? R: Is it different at home? G: What home? R: Haven't you got one? G: Why do you ask? R: What are you driving at? G: What's your name? <--G#2 R: Repetition! 2 - love, match point. It's not a big deal or anything, I was just pointing it out.
  • Hmm . . . unless the repetition is in the last line and the first part of the first line.

G: [What's your name] when you're at home?

    . . .

    G: [What's your name]?

Maybe that's why. But like you said, if that was the case, then all the questions starting with the word "what" would be repetition. Oh well.

  • true but it resets cause of the Statement! 1 - love

  • best scene of the movie

  • I did a skit on this play, but it was on Act 3. This part got me confused, so I had to see the movie in order to understand what was going on. The actual script for the play is very confusing...

  • I love this movie!:D My favorite scene! Gary and Tim are awesome!:D

My friend and I always crack up playing this game. :)

  • I have a drama assignment where we have to design set and costumes for one scene in one play- and I immediately thought of this play and this scene! Best ever!

  • Oh How Dare You!!! hahaha.

  • ^_^

I love this game... I have yet to convince my girl to play with me (she really hates losing).

  • i love this!

me and a friend are doing it for our drama assignment in two weeks as part of theatre of the absurd. =D

  • What is it that you're doing, exactly?

  • we're doing this scene, but not from the movie, from the book only its a couple of minutes longer

    im quite excited.

  • Oh, is it very different in the book?

  • not really. very similar, theres minor changes here and there in the script.

I still havent finished reading the whole book though.

  • Are you aware that i win 3-0?

  • Why would you do something like that?

  • Like what?

  • How can you not know what you've done?

  • Rhetoric...? A close call that.

  • Oh, yeah. =D

    0-1

  • Comment removed

  • I love this movie! XD Gary Oldman is hilarious

  • Have i finally found this?

How could i thank you enough, Prongsholic?

    Why was your account deleted?

  • I was always confused by this part. What are the rules to the game they are playing?

  • it is a question game, the rule is to only reply with questions, you say a statement and you lose, the other gets a point

  • Also no repetitions, no rhetoric, and... I didn't get one of the words in their dialog.

  • Oh, no "non sequitur" either.

Fouls: * statement: player fails to end their turn with "next question" * hesitation: player takes too long to reply or grunts or makes a false start * repetition: player asks a questions identical to or synonymous with one already asked this game (not match) * rhetoric: player asks a rhetorical question * non-sequitur: player responds with an unrelated question

  • these guys are freakin' awesome!

love the characters, love the scene, and love the movie!

  • OMG!!!! i love this!!!!! statment, 2-0 game point!
