Thing is, though we see Rush's hands, and I gather he is capable of some level of rendition of this piece, the film credits make it clear that we were actually hearing a performance by David Helfgott. Now, this would be a creditable performance by someone whose career is in acting, and it's likely to be a better effort than I will ever achieve, but it's really not world-standard concert pianist stuff. In the past Helfgott may have been a very talented pianist, but not when this film was made.
