The proper way to sharpen a sickle or hand scythe is to use a ball pein hammer and pein the feather edge thin (remember what hand you use to determine which direction to pein) then take a stone and sharpen full strokes off the tip. Start close to the tip and gradually begin the stroke further back each time, eventually creating a handle to tip stroke.

what book did you find all these different obscure weapon fighting styles and stuff anyway? and how did you sharpen your sickle? i doubt mine could perform as well as yours against small bottles with the edge it has on it now. i just took a page out of my sword experience and thought 2 liters will be easier.

I'm actually really surprised at how well the sickle cuts. I'd always personally thought that the edge being curved inward like that would hinder it's cutting capacity - guess I was wrong.

Very cool stuff. It's a fast and mean little weapon, very effective against someone wearing only light (working) clothing I imagine. I wonder how many village disputes, feuds and scores were settled with these (and other 'peasant' weapons)...

Thanks. I agree that it's a down and dirty weapon. But it has a very short 'range'. You can see in the video that I missed a few cuts because of the curved blade. The nice thing is that the Sickle is perfect for hooking and trapping, so its ok to enter grappling distance.
