  • no seatbelt lol..

  • I left Salford in 1937! Still going strong. The two signed Lowry prints I have keep me in touch. I went to the same art school as L.S.Lowry too. Good ol' Salford and bless all who dwell therein.

  • wow i've lived in salford all my life ..this guy's telling me i live in a town ha ha.....salford is a a city moron with it's own cathedral

  • that did my head in as well!! he mentioned at the start that salford gets mixed up with manchester but then called salford a town so many times after!! salford is a city. one of the oldest cities in the country. it does my head in when the talk about the "canal" thats near deansgate. i politely tell them that its the river irwell & that its the boundry between 2 cities

  • What a great tune, it brings me back to innocent times

  • where is the song, the old rocking chair' does anyone know??

  • heres the a & b side

  • Just spotted myself on the video singing in the choir, I have neever seen this clip before, its brings back such fantastic memories of St Winnies and our times in the late 70's.

  • That's amazing, which one are you in the line up,

and what took you to the USA?

  • If you stop at 3.51 I am second right of the middle row wearing a pink head band. We relocated to the US with my husbands job.

I was thinking about the good old days today and thought I would check to see if there were any clips of the song and couldnt believe it when I found this, its really funny to see it 30 years later.

  • Seftonwallet are you Kevin or Mick in disguise.... !!!

  • What happened to the B side? Old rocking chair wasn't it?

  • Wow thanks for uploading i used to live in albion towers right near salford cresent train station. I wish i could move back i loved manchester.

  • it sure has changed over the years! mind you that road hes on near salford cresent is pretty much the same.

  • Who's the presenter?

  • The presenter is Vincent Kane OBE.

  • Oh,no! Not the pink dress brigade again! Thought I'd just got rid of them in "GRANDMA"!

  • Great real Salford culture! C'mon Salford!

  • Love the very start of this as is a close up of Thorn & Spruce Court as I live in Spruce...Thanks for this.

  • I used to live in Thorn Court! Interesting how the old Cross is bang in the centre of Broad street which wasnt a dual carriageway!

  • (continued)

Perhaps if you're going to use a Merseyside comparison, it's like equating Birkenhead with Liverpool. No-one but the most ignorant (and Southerners, of course) would suggest they were the same. Perhaps it's more obvious because the Mersey is ever so slightly wider than the Irwell, but the natural boundaries in both cases were set in antiquity, and remain to this day.

Long live Manchester and Salford - long may they remain individual (and unique) cities!

  • i am impressed by you knowledge. sure i know salford predates manchester (the salford hundred, etc). it even has its own roman catholic archdesiese (spelling?), something which manchester doesnt even hace. but it isnt that simple. as you know now, salford city council contains all of manchester's western suburbs. such as eccles, irlam, swinton, pendlebury, worsley, etc. so that why i say salford is really a continuation of manchester's sprawling conurbation.

  • your comparison with liverpool and birkenhead is a good one though. but if council boundaries drawn up in 1974 were similar to the models of leeds, bradford, sheffield, doncaster, wakefield, etc, salford would be in innermost manchester. just like birkenhead and bootle would be in inner city liverpool.

  • I feel the comparison with Liverpool and Knowsley or Sefton is erroneous.

Knowsley and Sefton are artifical creations dating from 1974, and named after odd little villages within the boroughs in question. Large parts of those boroughs have always identified themselves with Liverpool.

On the other hand, Salford and Manchester have always been separate. Indeed, Salford had a separate city charter before Manchester did. (Salford's was granted in 1230, compared to Manchester's in 1301)

  • Nice to see a proper Salford vid instead of a bunch of little farts wearing hoodies and thinking they are 'The Crays'

  • long live the " black country " versus " birmingham "....im black country, not brummy !!

  • Salford isn't black country.

  • SALFORD TILL I DIE! I live around the corner frm where Mr L.S Lowry lived.

  • I know how you feell...having Salford permanently engraved for some reason along with manchester even tho you have an identity all of your own.....im from Walsall in the west midlands and we always get labelled as " Brummies " and were not...were from the " black country "....completely different !!

  • salford is very much in manchester. they are less than 1 mile apart. they are only separate towns because of crazy government boundaries that ensure this. whereas birmingham is made up if one huge council, manchester (and for that matter liverpool) are made up of a series of illogical needless boroughs eg salford and trafford in manchester, knowsley and sefton in liverpool. walsall is a good 15 miles from birmingham and originally not in the same county (staffs as opposed to warwickshire)

  • im from burntwood and i get labelled as a brummie i live in staffordshire lol.

  • Brillant find, Salford Forever. :)

  • go salford

  • Salford was also the first place in England to have gas lighting, electric lighting and electric traffic lights.

    Know that?

  • contact graeme@mcin.nat for social activities in Ordsall.

  • salford for ever

  • willie maley nice one petma, im a tim and a manc so well appreciated. now view willie maley folks and see the team that conquered europe first.

  • Everyone alus knocking salford, -i bin mugged three times one year and got the shit kicked outa me in Brum at the Foster viking scrap! HOWEVER -I still love living ere!!!!!! Yeh maybe we all are mad ha ha ha haaaaaaaaaahelp.

  • ok.. so why is the singer dressed up as a cockney just returning from a knees-up convention.

  • He's not dressed as a cockney. Mick's a Manchester lad born & bred.

  • mentality of the northern english - thick as two short planks - great tune though - i remember watching it in leeds when it came on 'telly in late seventies

  • Willie Maley was his name

  • salford born and bred and proud!

whit lane massive (in the 80's)

shame its full of smack heads now!

  • live in the centre of Salford and like alot of places there does not seem to be the neighborly respect amongst people there once was.The flat cap has now changed to the 'hoodie'and the cobbled streets are now all tarmaced to make a better surface for the car thiefing scumbags racing around high on drugs... Still a beautiful song which brings back lots of fond memories to lots of people...

  • Great stuff Seftonwallet. Great nostalgia for me in Bangkok Thailand.

Keep it coming Englands rich and varied heritsge is unique.

  • yeah, pity its all going to shit due to mass immigration and political correctness that is actually appressing the native white man. before anyone calls me rascist im not, my girlfriend is chinese and i have many friends of different ethnicitys, i just think we should curb mass immigration.

  • Bullshit, what about the white trash thieves, villains and murderers who have always lived there?

If anything, its loads better now thanks to redevelopment and kicking the dossers out. Seen Urban Splash?
