no no no no look NES can not use special effects like that it just can't because it is not that advanced maybe SNES could but not the original NES other than that good job
scince when has the nes been compatible with a mouse?, ( and had windows style pop up boxes ) ... also, why is their no music?? is that not like, the whole point of the game??
Cool. I just started making GH game too but you can only use the joystick :(. So people who have no joystick or PS3/360 controller or SOME type of gamepad can't play it! D: I like your version though! I hope mine will just as successful!
@Zeffa1234 I had my friend implement it so you could use a GH Xbox controller on it. Never tested it though. Yeah, I used GM 7. Though I downloaded GM 8 and mistakenly deleted the old version I had the registration on and I didn't get the upgrade for GM 8 in time so I have to buy everything all over again... Also, my computer crashed so I had to reboot it comepletely and lost EVERY file I've ever had. Kind of threw me out of GM all together though I do still make some games every now and then.
@piggybankvillan Interesting but sorry to hear what happened to you. Just remember you're not the only one that, that has happened to. If you ever want to work on a game together though, be sure to ask me ^_^. Just be aware that I make "bigger projects". I like your games but I go for the common stuff like Metroid engines, Smash bros engines, and so on!
NES... At least do 256x224 resolution and use some 8-bit synth DLL. Also, no particle effects, unless you can do cheap little single-pixel ones, if you're trying to capture the NES.
This is just showcasing the new Tutorial feature. Also, relating to your other comment on 05, this IS an actual game I made. It's not NES in general though but you can play it on the PC using your keyboard.
Thanks. I kind of aborted it but I aborted it at a nice time. I was going to touch it up and add more songs but I got a couple sets of song lists(easy, medium, hard) so I figure it's okay. The graphics are okay I guess though looking back, could still use some re-touch. I could've also added better achievements and a better tutorial. Then again, that's not the main part the game focuses on, you know? :)
I put it there a long time ago so all I would do is to change what happens instead of adding it all together. It's just that it wasn't important compared to what I actually had to get done. As of now, I quit this game but I'd rather have some indicator to whether or not you hit a note than nothing at all.
2600's color palette is far more different. I juse used the tools I could to try and make them a little better since people were crying about the other videos color. So I didn't really use the actual NES palaette. I also am done with the project so far by my standards so I don't see me finishing it. I understand what you're talking about.
There's a link to it on the 4th gameplay video's description. You have to download it however... though, the site I uploaded it to has a virus scanner so it's virus free.
Well I was just going to make sounds bleep and bloop when you hit them and then add background music for each song. Referring to your other comment: yes, this is a Game Maker game.
I know I sound like a part of the broken record crowd, but the NES simply could not do transparencies. I believe it had a 52 color palette with 16 colors on-screen (though I might be wrong. Nor could it do those particle effects. For transparencies it usually just flickered the sprite or ad two sprites where every other pixel was completely clear but in different positions. It also could not do that many sprites at once so the particles would be impossible.
I'm well aware that it is neither a NES game nor are you presenting it as such. I was merely chiming in on the things that made it graphically different from an actual NES game.
UPDATE: I got a new RockBand controller compatible version coming soon. I need to test it out first next time I go over my friends' house since he has RockBand and I do not.
Eh, I could send you a editable copy of the game so you can look at it if you want. It's all in drag and drop (with exception of the unlockables) so even newer members will understand it. Just tell me your e-mail.
You could've called it simply '8bit' instead of 'nes'. Nice job on this, but IMO you should change those sparkles for something more fitting, like brighter color of button on hit, or whenever those sparkles actually appear.
though, I know its because nes had limtied music, but I remember it being betetr than this haha. Thoguh I'm guessing that's jsut cause yer still onyl programming the notes and not really focused on the songs themselfves at this stage?
This game is not actually an NES game. I'm using a program called Game Maker which is a computer program. I don't really like adding sound so early so I usually add it in at the end of development. I will add background music to the songs eventually though. I'd say I'm about 60% done by now.
I understand that its not a real NES game, and I would've thoguht the way I communicated in my comment would show that (sorry about all the typos though) I was jsut curious why there was almost no sound, was all.
OH!! im sry i didnt know it was a game......i thought it was just a vid...i understand that its hard putting all the codes in in games....:P i didnt know that...sryhow are u making it?
Eh, it's alright. I'm using a program called Game Maker 7.0 (as I stated before). It's free for things you need to make a simple game but you can pay $20 to get EVERYTHING (meaning you can make FPS, online games, etc.) you need for the game. Although FPS and online games sound cool, they are a P-A-I-N to make. You can actually play the game. The link to a demo is on the 4th gameplay video. It currently has 24 songs, 4 achievements, tutorial, shredder notes, h/o's and p/o's.
Well what are you expecting from me? It's not like I'm a professinal NEs graphical artist or something. I'm only 14 and making this game using Game Maker 7.0. NES graphics actually do look like this (judging by Mario) but with more neon-like graphics. In fact, the only thing I can think of that is detailed is the bricks. So I hope you get more of a perspective that I am looking at. By the way, thanks for commenting.

I don't see why this game has no real sounds?
You can probably add many cool diffrent 8bit songs. Just look at Mario or the Megaman games from NES, they have killer songs :o
Tjorvz1 3 years ago
Will you add music, or is that it?
Kheluva999 3 years ago
Well, I kind of aborted the project now but I planned on doing so. As of now, what you see in this video is it.

Yeah. You download game maker and use sprites and stuff to make games.

i will download it now :D

That doesn't look a bit like a NES game. It looks like a 2600 game with the C64 palette and cheesy particle effects.
Please, please, pleeease redo the graphics, as the graphics seem to be the whole reason that you made it. You know, "style of the NES" and all that.
