Freestyle : a ryhme that aint on paper, just a bunch of lines that come to you on the spot. Sometimes the lines are from different songs, sometimes it be off the top of the head. Do you homework, Kiss & Fabolous started doing the freestyle thing (95') and they explained that its not always off the top of their heads. Pay attentioin to when Cassidy or Fabolous get lost for words and they go off the top of their head and then when they get it together then you might hear lines from a mixtape.

Freestylersrap off of the top are good. Alot of rappers cannot do that, It's a rare thing. But the thing about the rappers from the 90's is that they are really good and can come up with a 32 bar verse really fast. When Jada's by himself, he does something like that. When the rest of the lox are there, they each take a turn freestyling and the others are scribbling while one is rapping what he just jotted down. New rappers can't come up with stuff that fast and that's why they "dont freestyle".
