Hey Ryan ! Great Tutorial ;) Just to go a little deeper, the only mistake I noticed is at the beginning. You should be careful and reset your bus compressers. Indeed when you changed your buses volume to avoid clipping at the beginning, you should also check the input, then threshold of your compressers ;) Otherwise great tips ! Well done
PS : this is in the case the compression is done on the volume output of course. To be confirmed on Logic (not sure)
Hey Ryan, are you using parallel compression on this track when mastering? Just curious because I can't decide whether you are using the drum bus for Parallel Compression or for an overall fine tuning of the drums... I would really appreciate your feedback, thanks so much!
@nzmusic101 ahhh didnt think so! Thanks so much for the feedback! And just to be clear, what exactly do you add or do to the "Drum" bus that its needed along with the kick/snare/percussion busses? Just curious for an idea on why its used, thanks!
just curious...you mention at the beginning of the video that you use different plug ins on the master than in the video...what plug ins do you normally use for the limiter and compressor?
@mcprice40 yea when i master my tracks or clients work - i usually run the track through an outboard compressor and then for the limiter often use the L2 or the Massey Limiter :-)
I like to now use Izotope Ozone in Soundforge. Great mastering tool in great mastering software. Used to mix and master in Fl Studio. Would recommend people who use Fl Studio to never make the same mistake I did =P. Fl is horrid for Mastering hahaha
@newzealanddude92 when i use ableton i use izotope ozone aswell :D but when im on reason i prefer to use their main m-class masterer which comes with it..
@newzealanddude92 I won't agree. It depend on how you are using it. All DAWs with possibilities of VST are in equal possition, but if you are not familiar with your DAW... nothing good will come out of that!
you still EQ all of your synths individually, right? the way your video was presented made it seem as though you send your synths all to one "synth" bus and do everything from there
@ChadLikesGuitars okay so going in the red does refer to clipping/going over 0 db. well its not the same that it is int the video. i just didnt catch that similarity.
Why are you guys so worried about getting your tracks mastered properly so labels will like them? If your track sucks, your track sucks. No amount of mastering will change that.
@davidgtr Yeah but my point is that half the people commenting on this video aren't making songs good enough to get signed, but they're thinking that mastering will fix their songs for them.
you can say to the label that the mastering was done only for demo submission, if the label likes your track they will probably make a good mastering by a nice engineer
in your choppy complextro songs they snippits seam to meld together so well. are there techniquies to making the a more diverse collection of samples flow better and avoid that fast channel changing sound. how is this melding different when working with audio samples vs your middy reigns.
Hey man, what's the actual process for getting someone to master a track for you? Do you send them stems of the song or do you send them the actual song?
@KagePointer If you want someone to mix and master a song then you send stems. But if you want someone to just master your track, you just need to send them the stereo WAV file of your whole track.
Do labels master your songs?

@cavalrymusic from memory I was doing no parallel processing at all in this track. Not on drums or on the master.

hi we make sure there is loads of head room at the beggining of this stage but once those plug ins have been apllied the output reads a red 0.0.
Is that what we are after? A loud mix or is that still peaking a bit?
If that is still peaking do we just adjust some of the setting s to pull it back some on the busses?
lots of questions :) Thanks Ryan!

is head room really necessarily?
MrFijiWiji 7 months ago
@MrFijiWiji yes. if you are in the red it cuts of frequency.
rounce55 7 months ago
@rounce55 i use fl so im not exactly sure what "in the red" means. do that mean its exceeding 0 db? clipping?
MrFijiWiji 7 months ago
@MrFijiWiji yes clipping - you definitely want headroom for when you master
nzmusic101 7 months ago
@MrFijiWiji Are you kidding? In the mixer on FL There's a bar with numbers on the side, and near the top there is a BIG RED AREA.
