Very cool! As a NSU alum, I remember kids coming up to me after the game. I gave a few drumsticks and gloves away. The looks on their faces was priceless and some of them actually made the section years later.
Awwwwww, that was sweet, but what do you expect? Drum majors are picked for their leadership skills. I love it! Shout out to BCU (and this is coming from a FAMUan)! Rivalry does not beat diplomacy. I bet that little boy will talk about that for the rest of his life. Real classy, BCU drum majors!
The DM's probably inspired that young man to aspire to attend an institution of higher learning with that gesture...My interactions with members of the "100" as a youth did the same for me. Very cool to see!!!
To the Rattlers, I'd like to personally thank you for your comments coming from an alumni of THE PRIDE. Everyone in FL knows our rivalry runs deep. :o) I too love our HBCU bands as they truly bring out the best in us. I personally love to watch FAMU perform the death march and I won't even mention listening to Flight of the BumbleBee! As previously mentioned, we all have our own style. It's important that we embrace, encourage and equipt our youth to continue the tradition of excellence!
Okay...Gotta give props where props are due! I went to FAMU...I was even in the Marching 100 back in the day...and I remember being picked up by a FAMU Drum Major as a little girl, when there weren't very many girls in the band, making the decision that I WOULD be in the 100. I have to give you brothers PROPS for encouraging that litte man!!!! I know we have a rivalry, but we are ALL Black! and We should ALL encourage our little brothers and sisters to aspire to be what they WANT to be in life!
When I was young (about 4th or 5th grade) a drum major took time out with me after they marched at our school and it made me into the bandhead i am today (over 40 and still loving it). We need more people like those guys. Much love to them for what they did for that young man.
@Blakmajik78 I love them...and I applaud them for what they have done. However, even though I have gone to FAMU....I think lately HBCU's Nationwide show EVERYONE how to be a Drum Majors. Everybody has their own style or "flava" as the young ones say, but I think OUR (HBCU's) bands are top knotch. Like I said before...Even though my school has a rivalry with this one...I applaud these brothers for encouraging that young man. Not the best....But certainly one of the best!
Small gestures like that make a HUGE impact on a kid's life and Mr. Wells probably got another recruit in a coupla years w/something as simple as a fist pound/bump. Much respect to B-CU
That was very classy on the part of those drum majors to give pounds to lil' man in the stands admiring them. You noticed the two drum majors wanted to pound him up but missed him. Too Classy!!!!!
yeah, that made that kids day. I remember I got dap'd up by the drum majors at my Momma's college when I was that age. I ended up join'n the band in highschool and doing the same thing. Ahhh, those were the days.
Hey Jord! Bro that's your school.
