I love all types of pre-2000 heavy metal, and you'd be surprised at how classical-inspired the stuff is, especially progressive and death metal. Very melodic, epic sounding, mind-blowing if you pay attention. Bands like (later)Death, Fates Warning, Nocturnus, Cynic, etc.

i think it's really shitty that "classical music" is this heaping genre of anything symphonic or orchestral. "Classical" music is the most diverse style of music. It's made up of the most intricate emotions, themes, rhythmic and melodic patterns. Not to mention that "classical" music has had numerous waves of styles and memes. I think that "noise" and "classical" music are in themselves unique and all together different mediums of sound art.

How can you say classical is outdated? Rock, metal, dance (trance), hip-hop beats and most other genres still sample classical pieces and use classical instruments/orchestration in their music. It will never die, without it music would sound half as exciting.

Just looking at the bare sheet music, you can see that much modern music, (not talking about the jonas brothers here, I'm talking about the GOOD music) (jo-bro fans, feel free to thumbs down) is almost as complex as classicail music. The only area where much classicail music really inevitabley more complex than modern music is in length.
Taking classical piano lessons as a kid is not the accumulation of classical music, it is merely a fundamental structure. There is more to it than that.

I did an experiment on myself, I listened to a few selected pieces of classical music, listened to them about once every few hours a day, then I started really liking those songs.....
I also noticed that I perfered songs that used to be on my old keyboard as built-in songs, songs I was already familiar with.
Even my buddy started liking a few pieces of classical music, because I was playing classical music while I was driving around with him...

I rather listen to a mixture of styles. Crossover (rap & rock), hip-hop beats with violins and strings, Symphonic metal or just trance music. They all combine classical with modern musics. So why not combine the stuff? No doubt classical is the father of all music and still the supreme music but it takes time to discover and most teens are too hyper for that. You can't really rock out or party with classical. You have to be in a calm mood.

Classical music clearly dominates the instruments, it is modern music that was ''created'' for the minds of people who cannot focus on pieces(songs in your case) that are more than 2 minutes and does not consist of head banging or easy to follow tunes. However the people who prefer classical music clearly do not insult modern music as we understand the progression of music in the era of time so I advice that you do the same.

I think part of the reason I like classical more than rock is because I don't watch tv. Just because most kids don't like classical music doesn't mean it sucks. The majority isn't always correct. Anyone who listens to and is/was influenced by classical music sucks. Classical training is a waste of time for those that want to play other styles of music that have nothing to do with classical. Furthermore, these musicians end up in some sort of trouble and kill themselves. I was always told that if you liked this shit, you had no friends and you would be laughed at. Classical is boring and too dark moodwise to enjoy. I strongly dislike and any weirdass, lifeless composers.

I love all types of pre-2000 heavy metal, and you'd be surprised at how classical-inspired the stuff is, especially progressive and death metal. Very melodic, epic sounding, mind-blowing if you pay attention. Bands like (later)Death, Fates Warning, Nocturnus, Cynic, etc.

i think it's really shitty that "classical music" is this heaping genre of anything symphonic or orchestral. "Classical" music is the most diverse style of music. It's made up of the most intricate emotions, themes, rhythmic and melodic patterns. Not to mention that "classical" music has had numerous waves of styles and memes. Cool video but you should diversify your survey group more by age, race, class (as much as you could) and occupation. Asking more people with an education may help too instead of only younger people who are currently getting a college or high school education, and have likely never been exposed to the classics in any way but the cliched satires that appear on commercials and media (for example).

Classical music is dated, both in sonorities and the ceremonius ethics. I enjoy 'classical' and contemporary music but even the most avant garde pieces are distinctly conservative. The roots of everything are not in western classical music as someone stated (just western 12tet music really). Additionally I concur that it might 'take brains' but we can do much better! Also classical has simple melodical tunes and the more lenghty pieces that are harder to get in to. I think one of the bigger reasons people dislike classical also is because of lack of vocals. People like something to sing along too (lyrics that they can identify with). Instrumental is just for dancing or bopping your head too.

I did an experiment on myself, I listened to a few selected pieces of classical music, listened to them about once every few hours a day, then I started really liking those songs.....
I also noticed that I perfered songs that used to be on my old keyboard as built-in songs, songs I was already familiar with.

try listening to something like Caprice Basque by Sarasate, a couple of times a day, you'll start to like it afterwards.
For example, most people don't mind listening to Beethoven's "Ode to Joy", chances are you know the first 8 measures, and can hum the tune.
the last movement of "William Tell Overture" is another famous one. Canon, Lullaby, Vavaldi's "Spring" from Four Seasons...etc

I'm a metal/blues guitarist though i have learnt quite a bit about classical. though i like alot of it, i understand why so many people don't like it. some view it as 'old peoples music' and see it as a sign of opression. when i was 5-6, i started piano and got an earful of this stuff but i was pressured so much i started disliking most of it. now i've put it behind though. also, classical is such a strict genre and some prefer blues, jazz or metal (like myself). btw WHY DOES BLUES ONLY HAVE 1%?

Classical music fucking rocks!
People would rather listen to shit music like Miley Cyrus or Jonas Brothers and that's why they think classical music sucks.

I rather listen to a mixture of styles. Crossover (rap & rock), hip-hop beats with violins and strings, Symphonic metal or just trance music. They all combine classical with modern musics. So why not combine the stuff? No doubt classical is the father of all music and still the supreme music but it takes time to discover and most teens are too hyper for that. You can't really rock out or party with classical. You have to be in a calm mood.

I'd strongly disagree with you on the part where you say that classicals are the father of all music. But I do agree that all these genres and styles can be mixed and combined to make new and more uniques styles of music.

well, there is always mid-evil music, and greek/roman music. Heck, those greeks came up with that 7 series of notes that we all know and love that is the major scale. And the major scale can be found in every genre from jazz to rock.
I'd say atleast 70% of western music is written in one of the modes of the major scale. And most of whats left are harmonic, and melodic minor stuff, and their modes, which are based off the major scale.

True true. You can go back as far as the Greeks and gregorian church singers. for the first music. But classical was one of the first worldwide accepted ,and mostly, one of the most influential music styles there was.

True, PYTHAGORAS invented the sytem of Harmony. Musical instruments alread existed in Egyptian times! But eh Greeks layed the foundation for the modern musical note sytem wich was later further developed in the middle ages! Without them no modern music, jazz, blues or classical! Do the knowledge son!

@PrinceDimeXI Jazz and Rock are regressed music from classical music. all culture including music is suppose to be developing and should be more advanced thatn past one, but only music regressed. America is the one who regress the western music by populizing cheap instant music like rock and hip hop with big economy. I hope american would had kept their music and culture only to their country.

honestly, i see no point for the making of this video. COMPLETELY POINTLESS.
to tell you the truth, I see much more "uniqueness" and "creativity" in chopin, beethoven, mozart, etc... than i do in lil' wayne.
how many people can say the wrote 'Moonlight sonata' or 'Chopin's noctourne in c# minor.'

I agree with you to a certain point. I just don't think you can divide music into degrees of difficulty. A multi-layered beat from Pete Rock or Dr.Dre can take as much talent as a classical piece. It's about the creativity and talent u posess and not about the difficulty.
