So sorry to hear about this nightmare in our great country...and thanks for posting this video...this nonsense has to stop...This bank is sooooo corrupt and unethical... they do not care at all about human beings and their legal rights...they took my land unlawfully and unethically...and had my cabin trashed out without any due process of law...

I can't find anything good about Wells Fargo. It is not hard to find evidence of Wells Fargo fraud. Watch a story of mortgage fraud unfold in the You Tube videos at watch?v=wfYqiynknzA&feature=channel. There are 10 videos that make up the whole.
a great example of a great web 2.0 social networking web site is GAGLA dot com....i just discovered it and i think i'll be using it for all my social networking needs from now...
Where's WALDO...er I mean topshlf. I take it that either you ran out of knowlegable vocabulary, or that you are still trying to find the answers to my last questions directed toward you,....or that maybe..just maybe, you are finally researching MTR, and realizing the impact on the environment.
Most of the people who critictize these videos, have never even been close to any of these sites, or can't even fathom the destruction. They should set up a campsite on one of these properties, and stay there for a week or two. Most of the negative remarks come from behind a computer ,from people that wouldn't lift a finger for themselves, let alone their familys future, or the well of mankind !"Yeah but whats in it for me!"
jargenlink: Think is something you obviously stopped doing a long time ago. We dont need more space. close to 99% of mined land is not being used. there is enough land in appalachia to fit the cites of lexington and louisville on. do you really think we need more land? Our whole way of life is being destroyed, and for what? to sustain the world with power, where are the benefits for this region? they're arent any, it's time to find better, cleaner sources of energy
This makes me cry, National Geographic did an article on this recently, and its worse than what is shown, This land is ruined forever,When they are done, they turn these once beutiful and bio-deverse lands into golf courses and other kinds of "development" they call it land reclaimation.
The only thing that can resolve the problems associated with coal mining is for someone, anyone, to come up with a viable alternative power source that's less expensive and easy to maintain/operate/develop. Until that happens, this will continue. You cannot expect the population of the world to change their quality of life simply because a dirt farmer in WV lost some property.
If i recall correctly, the video states that it costs $1million to blast, let alone the irreversible costs to the environment, the health & welfare system & the economy of the country. These are the hidden costs.
I live here. I know the hidden costs. I do not work in the industry nor do I have family that work in the industry. I am completely familiar with the industry and how it operates. Mountain Top Removal Mining is cheap compared to ANY other type of mineral removal form and it's much cheaper to produce coal than oil for energy. Find an alternative or quit bitching. There's no other choice.
solar, wind, hydro, the technology is out there, when the big corporations take their greedy hands off the balls of governments, this technology does work,is cleaner and has no hidden costs.wouldve posted this earlier but not enough room in comment box!
What is left when the coal as well as the is GONE !
I'll tell you what is left...nothing but a huge scars on the land and years of acid runoff, that unless treated, literally sterilizes the complete watershed and ground water table...you could basically compare it to a Nuclear blast site,,,because it is totally uninhabitable...and don't tell me that they reclaim this land..BULLSHIT !! some of it maybe but very little !!
While wind power could annually give the US 4% of its energy (MTR gives us 5%), stopping MTR is good in its own right. There has beeen 90% job losses in WV coal. The price of energy would NOT change more than a penny or two. Coal is an incredibly volatile market, and sometimes the price will vary 40 cents in the same week. Get educated.
It has nothing to do with some "Dirt Farmer" as you put it so elequent and intellectaully,I might add !! It is the total ignorance and apethetic lifestyles by people such as yourself that allow this type of destruction to continue unimpeded. Have you ever heard of GLOBAL WARMING, and what the consequences of Ecological Destruction will lead to ?? Do you have any children, if so you must not give a damn about their future !!! What A NUMB-NUT YOU ARE !!!
Hey Shelldirtball, why don't you put your superior stupidity...Um..err.. I mean Intellect, to good use and come up with another form of energy that will make this no longer necessary. Come on now oh wise engineer. LOL!
Global warming is an even bigger load of shit than you are shelldirtball(hard t believe, I know). LOL! The earth has gone through warming and cooling phases for millions of years before and during our existence. In the 60's and 70's it was a cooling phase and retards like you were touting our demise via an Ice Age! LOL! Get a life guy. :)
Wow the great know-it all 19 yr. old kid speaks.".all hail to his infinate wisdom", not of the wisdom of college professors and scientists who have been studying this phenomenom for longer than he has been on earth!!Ha and you have the audacity to call others retards !! Your a legend in your own mind !!LOL
No, I'm a legend in your mind. You have me going from 34 to 19. Now that would be stuff of legends. LOL! Way to go you geriatric wonder! It doesn't matter what age you are, you'll always be a dumbass. LOL!
Just an honest question..Flaming and bashing aside...what do you do for a living topshlf? Do you have any children? Where do you live ? What exactly is your vision of the immeadiate and long term future of the enviroment? Do you even care about clean air, water, or pollution in general? What are your ideas about enviromental problems?
the next source being thought of as a possibility is the huge power potential of nuclear waste products, learning how to harness this obvious potential of power, which if you were within kuuueee of would seriously harm you, that is what the coal is needed for it is to feed, clothe, house and pay a decent wage all those who selected to bring this about the scientists their homes their lives etc.
their foreign policy demands they raid the inexhastable raw materials of indigenous peoples in their goal to search for a power source that will eventualy drive the next stage of our existance venturing out into the universe space travel, with million people strong airships venturing out into the universe to do this the entire earths resources have to be focused on that drive.
never mind land stealer, who's land is it that it can be taken from you just like that anyway it is indigenous peoples lands complicit with local and regional councils who are paying the tribe for the peeling back of the skin of papatuanuku, no one that is what all neo liberal capitalist nations do.
amen brother. people soon forget the high price that was paid for the "white man" to populate this country and dismiss your peoples' struggle. the African Americans want restitution for what was done to them. As long as the Native Americans continue to suffer and as long as the Native Americans don't get their restitution, no one deserves it.
If you want anything left of this beautiful, living planet for your children and grandchildren to enjoy, it's time to wake up and become involved. Please help us save something for our future generations.

Sadly, coal is not going away. It's the cheapest way to produce electricity, and it doesn't have the geopolitical complications that oil has. Plus, the US and China are sitting on literal mountains of it. But getting it requires leveling mountains and polluting rivers, and unless care is taken in burning it, that releases mercury, soot, and CO2. Those who would destroy the Appalacians have power and economics on their side.

Instead of removing mountain tops, what the coal industry calls "over-burden". How about we control population. The human over-burden.

The DRILL & BLASTING Engineer working at this mine should get the sack!
Just have a look at blast hole ejection during the blast!
The firing sequence delays are way out, looks like the D&B Engineer was trying to celebrate the 4th of July!

The United States geological survey said in 2001 that Appalachia had just 10-20 years at most of high quality bituminous coal left.
