  • Cannot believe that my classmate said that this was her favourite song wow boring it is putting me too sleep.

  • Nice job! I just uploaded the Gerry and the Pacemaker's version to my channel.

  • the best version i heard so far- unfortunately poor sound atyour highest note=( anyway well done

  • great singing

  • Can we stop flooding the comments with stupid shit?

  • this ain't gerry and the pacemakers >:I

  • who is singing this version

  • An impressive song, but the lyrics are false sentiment - there are many people today who are walking on with astonishing courage through extreme adversity and yet they will never hear the lark and they will walk on to their end totally alone.

  • @kevinastraw im not sure if htis is sarcastic but it is symbolic of the people you become close with will always be with you no matter what it shows to many groups of people that no matter were you go you will always have a fiend. thats why it is used at alot of graduations

  • A wonderful version of this tune.....and I'm a loooooong time R & H fan... :-)

  • disapointed.. he seems to be rushing to keep up with the song especially at the beginnig

  • And I love it! Love you liverpool! You'll never walk alone! :D

  • This song is the best natural laxative around. Thanks for keeping my system clean and cleared out! :-)

  • This song never fails to reduce me to tears... BEAUTIFUL version.

  • Why does this woman have a man's voice??? Ashley???

  • @bladmand Ashley is a boys name as well.

  • Nope. You have to have a women's voice singing this - a contralto.

  • @SugarTomAppleRoger Well seeing though its a cover, its own version.

  • @SugarTomAppleRoger most stupid comment ever, this can be sung by a man by taking down the key, also this was written for a soprano, not alto.

  • @breaca020 The song was originally written as a mezzo-soprano role for a musical. I have no idea what you mean by "alto". That is some pop music term I suppose. The role was sung by Christine Johnson and later Claramae Turner. It is never a man's song.

  • @SugarTomAppleRoger An alto is simply a shortened term for the word you used -contralto- which is not the same as a mezzo-soprano. So you have stated the song is for a contralto and a mezzo soprano...contradicting yourself.

While this song was originally written for a woman soprano (different again from a mezzo-soprano and alto), you can change the key in songs to suit different singers. So yeah of course a man can sing it. Many famous men have covered this including Bryn Terfel (bass baritone)

  • @breaca020 The role was originally written for a mezzo, but originally sung by Christine Johnson in 1945 for the musical and later Claramae Turner in 1956 for the film version. Both Christine and Claramae were contraltos.

  • @breaca020 The song was written especially for Christine Johnson by Rodgers & Hammerstein in 1945 who created the role of Nettie Fowler in the original Broadway Production. Just in the same way The solioquy from Carousel was written for John Raitt who created the role of Billy Bigelow in that same original production. In fact Christine only died in June 2010 at the grand olde age of 98!

  • @steph36uk of course I forgot 'June is Bustin' Out All Over was written especially for Christine as well of course another wonderful song, love hearing her sing both on the original cast album

  • i really like this cover beautiful voice
