  • A GT500 is capable of high 11s with good tires and a driver who knows what they are doing.

  • a gt 500 cost like about on the 40,000 but if you have 30,000 you would rather get a 2002 trans am that cost about 15,000 with very low miles and put 10,000 in the car and u save like save 15,000 and you have a better faster car and 15,000 in the bank... ooo and trans am got better traction on taking off then a GT 500

  • A LS1 TA with sticky tires and a torque converter can run 13.00 at a cost less than 10K. TA is the real drag car. GT500 is more show less go. case closed

  • trans am is a fast car and so is the GT500 but the only reason that the GT500 stays a little behind is because the GT500 has so much power on the rear wheels which will make it to just keep on spinning out trying to catch traction while the Trans Am might catch traction faster and the drivers do count alot.

  • I will agree that it sounds sweet, but I'm just not a fan of the design, apparently the american public agreed and it was discountinued and unlike the comaro won't be coming back. There are much faster cars than the shelby GT500 out there for sure, and yes there are plenty of trans ams and honda civics "modified" that could beat it, if only it were just about speed. There is a reason ferrari and lambos look sexy too. Good luck in your future ride, see you on the lake.

  • Yeah those GT500's do pretty well on top end. I killed a convertable model the other day, but it was a 30-100 race...so I'm guessing he would have evened it up by 130 or so. Still...he looked pissed so I'm guessing he didn't know that. lol.

  • lol american cars are fine on reliabilty. If you properly maintain a car, it should run for atleast 150,000 miles except for french cars. Or maybe you have a volkswagen and your window hanger snaps. Or your electrical system has a seizure? Or your fuel pump shatters and spits plastic into the fuel system..?

  • idk what you were talking about i couldnt understand it but the new camaro isnt a true camaro its got a vett engine in it, i foreget which one but camaro is going down hill. dont get me wrong it was a great car in the 60's to like 02? but to compete with the mustang chevy had to put a vett engine in it.

  • The camaros and t\a's have shared the vette motor for a while now the lt1(1993-97) and then the ls1(1998-02) the only new thing is going to be the IRS "independent rear suspension". This will allow the car to "squat" and go, neways the gt500 is a let down for what you pay for......THE NAME

  • This is a good point, the ls1 is a highly restricted beast of a motor from the factory. It's not uncommon for them to run low 13's bone stock and with a little tweaking 12.9 is fairly simple to run.

  • actually the gt500 is at best a 12.9 car. And if the trans am is a 11 sec car it is highly modded.

  • actually in one test, the GT500 got 12.3 easy, stock. The car weighs 3900 lbs with 450HP to the wheels, not that bad. That driver of the GT500 in the video should not be a reference to how fast they really are.

  • It must have had slicks on, 450whp + 3900lbs on stock tires does not equal 12.3 period.

  • I seriously hope you are kidding, no stock GT500 does 12.3 PERIOD, END OF STORY!!! A stock Porche GT3 can't do 12.3 and everybody knows a GT3 will destroy a Shelby Mustang. In the hands of a skilled driver it is 12.9 at best.

  • I was wrong, the Shelby is a mid 12 second car. MM&FF put a pair of drag radials, an axle back exhaust, and a computer flash and got it into the 11s. Put blower pulley, gears, a full exhaust, and slicks, and you got a low 11, high 10 second car. Can't say that about the Trans Am.

  • If i had about $45,000 to spend i might think about a gt500, but i had about $8,500, and ended up with something thats faster than a stock gt500. I could alwyas throw a blower, gears and some slicks on, it would probably be hitting low 10's, high nines.

  • Put a Kenne Bell blower and nitrous would probably get it into the 9s hell 8s even. Then have the heads ported and polished and swap the cams and thats definetly in the 8s.

  • Shelby's driver sucks. That is a low 12 second car. It would spank the Trans Am.

  • The Trans Am driver sucks. It runs high 11's. The best time that Car And Driver got out of a stock 07 Shelby Gt500 was a 12.9.

  • @jesset1234 at sea level the fastest production Trans Am was the ws6 and it did 13.4 second quarter mile time. Rated top stock times. A 2007 Shelby gt500 convertible (tested by road and track) has hit 12.9 on 1/4 mile stock so I imagine the coupe would be a little quicker. All factory times are rated at sea level. So take into effect this track may be fairly high in altitude and that affects times and different engines react and run different at higher altitudes. Sorry 4 draggin old comment out.

  • @jesset1234 the smoking tire driver matt ferrara or whoever ran a mid 12. and he wasnt driving it that well.'gt500s are mid 12 cars. stock ta's can run the highest 12....mines in the high 11's and im about to get a procharger and change it to high to mid 10's once my suspension will support it.
