Nice. I have this Cd. Beautiful package, made with real care and affection I think. Great version of this. I only recently realized how long they had been playing this song. It was in their set lists in the early 60s with Hawkins.
Great. The horn section really shines. Wonder what it would have been like if The Band actually didn't play this until Van Morrison came on and Richard and Van sung a duet of this. Van actually did a version of this on "Down the Road" (2002).
I just tried to upload it - twice. It was nuked both times by order of the cretins @ NBC Universal, which means, SNL owns the rights to it. What a shame. Their approach is a "loose -loose" proposition. So often I read comments "wow, what a great tune/band/singer, I am going to order the CD. I did not know of them/him/her". This is the only way many of us would get exposed to music we would never hear otherwise, and thus would NEVER buy for we would not know it exists. Sorry I could not help.
Following my above post, and failures, I got pissed off and "rolled my own" (video that is .... 8?)..) to the soundtrack is the actual SNL performance I was yapping about. If you are interested, look-up my account, or click on the above "video responses". Yeah, its not the same full course serving but it is the icing on the cake !!! Hope it helps soothe the soul {8?).
BTW - sorry if 2 replies show up (1st did not show up, pos. cuz I posted the direct link to the tune ?!?!)
Thanks so much for this. The Last Waltz version of Georgia is the definitive one in my opinion.
chiidang, I've been looking for The Complete Last Waltz for years. Do you know where I can get a copy? If not, would you be willing to copy the CD's for me? I'd be happy to pay shipping etc.
Thanks for putting this out on You Tube. Another example of why Richard Manuel was one of the great vocalists of any era. More if you have it, please. Why would this ever have been left off the official release of the Last Waltz? So unfair to Richard.
while i do agree, richard is mainly absent in the last waltz (it sucks so much), but I am quite glad they didn't do this song. they needed to do their own songs. richard wasn't physically able to pull off the songs he used to pull off. except Shape I'm In, which is seen in the movie and I Shall Be Released (sorta shown in the movie)
i've never seen this in the last waltz

This sounds great, but when The Band did this song on SNL I think it was better.

2 songs have been left off the official release . another one is "king harvest"
The reason which was not released is Richard's voice.
Please wait for my next posting to pleasure.

It's amazing what his drinking did to him.
He used to be able to blow people away with this song. Easily the best white singer to ever do this song (if not the best white singer period).

@ogredm. I know what you're saying, but this one still blows me away as well.
