I've been stopped a number of times but what i've found is that if you just shut up and show them what you're doing they will leave you to it, The police are doing the job they're told to do, Sure it's annoying but it's far less annoying if you just shut up and show them that you're taking photos or filming for an innocent reason. What do terrorists need photos for anyway? Google Street View exists - but don't they think Terrorists would use much smaller covert cameras which wouldn't arouse suspicion available on eBay for less than £10?????
@carl0071 well basically truth be told a terrorist if they wanted to could easily blow up something, the fact is google street views are nice for locations but it does not show the cctv network and some places on google streetview are restricted or limited fact. and convert camera's well how suspicious would it look if your pointing your pen in the air trying to get cctv points, covert cameras are not as great as you think sometimes you can blend in better with a normal camera.
PCSO's do not have the right to conduct a stop and search this would be checking her camera for the footage.

If I was a terrorist filming a potential target in the UK I would tell the police that I was an art student. If I was filming a target anywhere in the world I would say I'm an art student. In germany you are generally not allowed to shoot buildings that are not public in nature. It has nothing to do with terrorism or something. Buildings being private property are legally considered art (even if not really artsy) and photographing requires allowance of the owner. I learned that more than 20 years ago while trying out a camera in front of the camera shop within a shopping centre. Don't know about GB.

moving on. we are all agreed that this is the act used to question and in turn, arrest her... however, it is quoted on the form that she was charged using the PoA1986 which i believe to be the public order act 1986. an appeal should be presented on the basis that the charge does not relate to the original "stop and account". section 43!!... 3... suspition was raised in relation to the terrorism act 2000. "section 44 Authorisations" states that authorisation must be given to conduct stop and search procedures in a specific area for a specific period of time (i dont believe this was the case, i dont think the area was defined as authorised and although she can be stoped, it is only under "section 43 Search of persons ")

I've been stopped a number of times but what i've found is that if you just shut up and show them what you're doing they will leave you to it, The police are doing the job they're told to do, Sure it's annoying but it's far less annoying if you just shut up and show them that you're taking photos or filming for an innocent reason. Surely i can't be the only person who can see that standing arguing and questioning the police just makes matters worse

This is strange. The City Of London Police are the force for the square mile. She was dealt with my the Met. The City Police are extremely polite, and very knowledgeable about S44, as they are the in the area where it gets abused most. Although the policeman had no right to force her to give ID, etc., he does posses the human right to polite-fully ask her. She is clearly in a place where pedestrians don't usually go, she said shes filming for fun, before changing her reason to she's an art student. In germany you are generally not allowed to shoot buildings that are not public in nature. It has nothing to do with terrorism or something. Buildings being private property are legally considered art (even if not really artsy) and photographing requires allowance of the owner. I learned that more than 20 years ago while trying out a camera in front of the camera shop within a shopping centre. Don't know about GB.

moving on. we are all agreed that this is the act used to question and in turn, arrest her... however, it is quoted on the form that she was charged using the PoA1986 which i believe to be the public order act 1986. an appeal should be presented on the basis that the charge does not relate to the original "stop and account". "section 44 Authorisations" states that authorisation must be given to conduct stop and search procedures in a specific area for a specific period of time (i dont believe this was the case, i dont think the area was defined as authorised and although she can be stoped, it is only under "section 43 Search of persons ")

Wake up you idiot. We are walking into a police state. I have been photographing for years and now they are stopping people all over the country on the basis of anti-terrorism. The idiot here uses the term iconic repeatedly. The freedom in this country is not to be stopped by the forces of Authority to justify what you are doing on the whim of a jerk like this one. He should spend more time actually chasing the gangs that are responsible for most of the violence in our communities.

It's sad that SOME PCSO's and Police are so badly trained. Not all of them are this stupid. A little bit of power and a uniform. I'd make sure he gota bollocking, send him back for re-training plus a full apology in person to the young art student. The "cop" was an idiot. I had a feeling that the silent "cop" behind was thinking, "for fucks sake, shut up and lets go".
